I receive a weekly blog from Oriah Mountain Dreamer.  Sometimes her words resonate so deeply with me, like these words from last week.  Many of us struggle with the decisions we make and wonder if we have made the right ones.  This is about dealing with human cancer but for most of us here, that is no different to cancer in our best friends / soul mates.  I hope it can help, just a little, for anyone struggling with the path they have chosen.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. Thaank you! T.H.A.N.K Y.O.Uclap

I actually read "The Invitation" and one or two of her follow-ups years ago! I'd forgotten how wonderfully simplistic, yet profound "teachings" she offered! Thank you for giving js the opporunity to reaquaint, or to learn, such illiminating "word of wisdom"!

The "responses" were enlightened also. I love the quote from the last response.

I also went back to re-visit your tribute to Magnum today. For me, when I say our tripawd heroes will never be forfotten, it's true! So I always make sure I stay connected to these beautiful souls whose lives matter so deeply and often go back and look at their journey.

Your snuggle pictures of you and Magnum are some of my favorite s. Then again, so are the ones where she's enjoying a good back scratch, slobbering while she's carrying her big bone, frolicking in the surf, lookingout the window like a wise Sage......I guess you could say they are all my favorites!!!

Thank you again for sharing this wonderful post...... and for being you!

Love and light to you, Ruby, your pack and he always happy Magnum!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I reallllly loved this post Karen, thank you so much for taking time to share it. It's so relevant to our community, when we try to make the "best" decision for our animals, when we are coping with loss, or right from the beginning when we get the shock of a cancer diagnosis:

Working with these three wonderful humans I was reminded again and again of how much I do not know, of how each person is taking their own journey. We can support, assist, facilitate each other’s exploration, but ultimately we cannot “know” the path another needs to take. I've also been reminded that the wisdom to take our next step- whatever that may be- is within all of us.

I encourage everyone to take a minute to find a quiet place and read this. It's an awesome post.

Thank you for sharing, Karen; there is much wisdom - and comfort - in these words.

Thanks Jerry for encouraging me to share this.  I don't visit as much as I used to but I still keep half an eye on what is happening at Tripawds. It's because I can still feel the pain more than I would like 18 months on that I need to keep my distance.

Sally, thank you for reading up on Magnum again.  I feel honoured that you would do that.  I like "wise sage".  I'm going to remember that one.  And poor Hannah, I saw the Halloween photos.  She looked as impressed as Ruby did when I dressed her up last year!

Roxie's mum, I'm glad it gave you some comfort.  We all love our dogs so much. That's why we are here.  The price we pay is often all the baggage and guilt that we carry because we are humans and not dogs smiley

love

Very nice!  It is very applicable to what we deal with here- we often hear from new members that their families are not so supportive of their decisions.

I have chosen two different paths dealing with cancer in my pugs- and this post really defines it well.  Each situation and person (or pet) is different.

Thanks for coming by and posting.  And don't feel bad for not being around here, really it is yet another example from your post- each person has to heal and deal in the way that is right for them.
