I just caught this story, which includes a video link, about a badly abused pit bull who is now visiting kids in children's hospitals. This is just what I would have loved to do with Tshuvah if we had been given the time.

Beth with my beloved Tshuvah, 10 year old "TaosDog". Provisional diagnosis osteosarcoma on 6/10/10, amputation of left foreleg same day, firm diagnosis of hemangiosarcoma 6/24/10. Set free on 9/9/10. Treasured forever.

Thanks for sharing! I too want to do this with my dog Chloe, but its been hard finding classes in my area and I have no idea if I will have the time to dedicate to training since I just started being a full time grad student...

What fun to read! We start therapy dog classes with Ajax on Sept. 12. We've always wanted to do it, but it took him losing his leg for us to get off our you-know-what's and actually follow through. He tested out of the basic obedience part (first 5 classes; thank goodness), but we have been sternly instructed to work on the treat taking before class begins.
Frankly, we've been working on the treat taking since he was born. I've basically concluded that a Lab either is born with a "soft mouth" or not. Ajax was not. So this is our new task. He's had a whole 5 weeks to adapt to 3 legs, we figure he needs a new challenge ...
