Well said re the neighbour, Wanda (and everything else). I entirely agree ❤️
Ruby, Staffy, born June 2022, became a Tripawd, 20 November 2023, adopted 12 January 2024.
Also Angel Tripawd Meg (aka The Megastar), who died in April 2023, aged 14, after seven glorious years on three, and Angel Staffies Pie and Bille. In the pawprints of giants...
Yep, DITTO Wanda!! You need not change anything about the way you and Roxy are living your lives! And who knows, maybe the Universe has plans for Roxy to be THE dog who teaches your neighbor the joy of not fearing dogs, but rather enjoy the privilege of having them in our lives! 🙂
Oh,as far as barking, you know THE solution, right???? Yep, ANOTHER DOG needs you and Roxy needs another doggy! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
I was wondering how Roxy was adapting to her new life and am happy I found your thread in the forums 😊.
She is making incredible progress! Tuck has a thing for robins too - he stalks them on our walks and leaps in the air at any that happen to fly a bit low in his yard.
I had to laugh at the green bean story! I bet Roxy will come around and realize how good they are.
And the pics of her smiling....😊😇
I'm sure Isa is keeping a paw on all the adjustments and reassuring Roxy that she's home now 💕.

I'm not sure if it would help Roxy, but it seems to help my two a tad bit with some of their anxiety: Adaptil. I sprayed Milo's bed/blanket with it when a thunderstorm was coming the other day, and he then proceeded to sleep in his bed burrowed under the blanket for a couple nights (totally unlike him, he is usually glued to my side even during sleep). I got it from the vet, but I think you can order it online. They have a diffuser and a collar too. It's supposed to give off a calming pheromone like a mom gives off to her puppies. Maybe you could spray her bed with it? Is she confined? I confine my guys to the bedroom while I'm gone and I have a "doggie daycare" app on my television that I put on for them. I also keep the window blinds closed b/c if Tanner see's anything outside he goes mad. I liken it to their own little enclosed hippie cave, with calming music and calming pheromones in the air. Hahahaha.
Poor thing, she's probably just a little nervous while you are gone.

Well, yes, I have been AWOL for a while. The nerve of people actually expecting me to WORK when I'm at the office!
So this happened: "Someone" evidently left their taVlet lying around the house unattended and a couple of furry wonders went shopping. A package appeared in my mailbox with this card:
and in the package was one of Renee's special "Protect This Dog" tag, with Roxy's name on the back. Of course I cried. How very sweet of Frankie and Myrtle to think of Roxy!
In other good news, Roxy spent all morning at daycare this morning and did great! She didn't play at all but hung out and didn't try to eat any smaller dogs. Success! I have to consult with the finance committee (me, myself and I) to see how often she can go back.
Because I know my audience, here's a sleepy girl before I move on to other tidbits:
yeah, giant yellow dog and dark green/gray couch. Anyone else see a problem?
So I took Elizabeth's suggestion and ordered an Adaptil collar. Since she never stops moving I would have had to spray the entire house. I suspect Wallee would object. The collar came yesterday and it's a good thing or I would have strangled her last night.
The Neighbor previously mentioned has been out of town the last couple of days and got home late last night. Roxy felt compelled to greet her homecoming by standing on me and going batsh*t crazy. Long after The Neighbor was in her house and tucked in, Roxy was still barking off and on at who knows what, up and down the stairs (not quietly) and periodically standing on me to better bark out the window. I finally got up at 2am and put the collar on her. She came back to bed and let out a huge sigh, shifted her position a little, another huge sigh and she was out for the night. Hallelujah!
Clare, to answer your question The Neighbor was fine with Isa. BUT Isa was at least 12 when they met and was also the world's friendliest dog. And Neighbor moved in mid-June last year, Isa was diagnosed July 1 (gotta love anniversaries, right?). So Neighbor never really met Isa at her best. Isa may well have been a tripawd by the time they officially met.
Neighbor continues to be a burr under my saddle; she got more than a little ugly with me earlier this week. And I have to wonder why, exactly, Roxy goes so much more mental when Neighbor passes by than any other human. The other troubling factor (for me) is that I had thought Neighbor and I were friends. But after some of the things she said the other day, I now see I was delusional on that particular topic. Probably other topics as well but that's a different conversation.
Roxy's barking is a problem, even the friendly neighbors have commented on it. So until a more permanent solution appears, Roxy is stuck in the house while I'm away, whether work or errands. Work days I'll go home at lunch to let her out. There is a dog door but her being outside is the bulk of the problem - she is the poster child for "territorial" - that didn't take long. Keeping her inside all day is not my top choice but it will keep me from strangling Neighbor. Or her me. Or Roxy. I don't know how it might play out but it would not be pretty and someone would undoubtedly require bail money.
Moving on, I will continue to try and get video of the Roxy and Wallee show. The problem is the minute I move to grab the phone, Roxy shifts focus to me. I will keep trying, I promise. It's too good a show not to share and they change things up regularly. Or Wallee does. She seems to change her mind more or less daily about how she feels/thinks about Roxy.
So I'll leave you with this tidbit. I really do need to work on my video skills but I think you'll get the idea.
Have a great weekend all!
Happy Fourth of July!
Hugs!

I am SO happy the Adaptil collar seemed to work! There were only a couple people in this world that Jake didn't like, and he really let them know...one of them was a neighbor who lives behind me. For years he went crazy any time that guy was outside...I always trusted him on that. So something about that lady is not sitting well with Roxy. What about exercising her before work to wear her out? Does wearing her out help at all?
Also, what a beautiful gesture by Frankie and Myrtle!!!! Gotta love those two

Oh my gosh that Roxy is part kangaroo! I love her bounce!
That is interesting about her reaction with the neighbor. Dogs are SO good at reading energy, I'm sure Roxy knew the minute she met her that the neighbor was going to be a challenge. I'm sorry you're having issues in that department. Why the heck can't everyone just be a little more patient when it comes to the barking? I mean shucks, people make WAY more ruckus than dogs, especially this week!
Very cool the Adaptil collar works. I wonder if it will help Wyatt? He could have used it this weekend with strangers coming and going for our yard sale. You've met him and can probably imagine how insane he was for two days straight.
Glad you like the angel charm!
Hang in there, you'll figure out the neighbor situation and Roxy's needs too. It just takes time. She's an awesome doggie and totally worth it. But you know that 😉

What a great update and I agree. .. she's come a long way since the last time I popped in here. She's doing really great! And as far as the neighbor... I have one of those too. Jasper HATES him. I hate him too - his energy is all bad. But keeping Jasper from barking non-stop at him is a challenge. When I am home.. I try and re-direct her focus to a toy or a game. But I live in an apt and she can't always see who it is but she senses his walk, up the stairs I guess.
Sorry I can't be more help on that. I do understand and feel your pain on that though. 🙂

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
At long, long, long last I finally have video of Wallee and Roxy. I was standing watching them this morning for a while before I realized I had my phone in my hand. Lack of caffeine I tell you! enjoy.

:). That looks a lot like my little (BIG) Joe with one of our cats Indee. Some days it's like your video and some days he is bouncing all over him (which Indee does NOT like). I agree that you should trust your Roxy's instincts and when your neighbor complains you can politely tell her how sorry you are - but Roxy just doesn't like her..... She's a pup, she is challenging (I'm channeling my experience with Joe so please don't let me offend you), but she is lovely and is a 70? pound toddler that is going to take some time to "mellow" into what Isa was. Period. She sounds like the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz!
I'm so glad to see an update from you - I've been thinking of you lately!

I see they are pretty good friends. Wallee lets her know when she is invading his space too much. 🙂 Looks like Roxy has adjusted fairly well.
How is she doing with her barking? I am sure it has gotten a little better. Karma got nanny cams so she can check in on her girls while she is working. Maybe you could do that too? That might give you insight into what she was barking about.
I love how well you both have adjusted. Being guided by your Angel Isa.

Such a different dog from the first pics, Teri! It's heartwarming, actually.
I found out after many years that Manni picks up my sentiments about people (sometimes before I even have a clue myself) and acts accordingly. I have learned to trust him. And to keep the leash reeeaaally short when I see the wrong ear twitch...
He is also just as territorial but I am blessed with neighbors who have been telling me for years to just let him bark so that maybe potential burglars would be put off THEIR houses as well. Yes, I've been lucky there.
I love how Wallee has things under control. -Somebody's got to 🙂 🙂
Hugs

Whoa! I almost missed this and the video prior to this one!!! GEEZ!! I agree with Rene...Roxy is part Kangaroo! And clearly part Beauty Queen! 🙂 🙂 She really is a beautiful gal! I just love the coloring on her face.
The dynamics between Wallee and Roxy....sooo sweet! I would loooove to know their thought bubbles. Clearly they are playing "mjnd games" with each other!
I agree with Wanda and Tina that, basically Roxy just doesn't like the Wicked Witch and she has her reasons which are clearly valid to her! Roxy knows whacko when he sees whacko!! 🙂 And as you've learned, that Witch is clearly whacko!!! 🙂
Teri, to see how happy Roxy has come from sitting on her "safe place step", from growling at you when you came home....and now to being the happiest and most cared for than she's ever been in her young life is so heartwarming! Isa, sweet Isa, knew exactly what she was doing and why. Even though Im sure you were doubting Miss Isa for awhile and wondering what in the world she was thinking! But you trusted Isa and wonderful things have happened as a result!! Don't wait so long next time for pictures and videos!!
Lots of love and hugs!

So I owe you guys the final chapter of the Wicked Witch saga. And I appreciate all your support - one does tend to doubt one's assessment of a situation when the reaction is so ... vehement. I've no doubt Roxy was picking up my energy about Neighbor, not to mention Neighbor's sheer terror of Roxy.
Turns out, Neighbor got a new job - in St. Louis! So she was gone as of July 31. As a final episode to the saga, the Friday before Neighbor left, Roxy let herself into my front yard. I don't normally let her out there by herself (the fence is three feet high - she could be over it in a heartbeat) but was keeping an eye on her through the window. The phone rings and it's Neighbor: "Roxy's out front. Don't know if you know it." I told her I'd get Roxy and hung up. By the time I got to the front door (ten seconds), Roxy was waiting for me to open it. Roxy did not emit a single bark the entire time. Not a sound - weird. When we walked back into the living room, I looked back out the window and Neighbor was still standing next to her car, not moving. Eventually she did go into her house.
And yet I was chastised for not inviting her over to meet Roxy. I wonder why?
That was the last conversation we had. The things she had borrowed when she was still speaking to me appeared next to the garage door (no need to go to the house door and get barked at; no need to actually speak to me). No good-bye. Nada. C'est fini.
In other Roxy-related news, we went Saturday morning to the Santa Fe river[bed]. There's only water there for maybe two months during spring runoff and then during a storm. Isa, Wallee and I used to live nearby so we walked there everyday. Wallee even went with us once (have I mentioned she thinks she's a dog?). It's still one of my favorite (in the city) places. As a (scary-to-me) experiment, Roxy was off leash. In the scheme of things I was lucky - we saw no beings other than a couple of lizards - no other dogs or humans, etc. She kept an eye on my whereabouts most of the time and came running joyfully every time I called her. Every! Time! She had a great time - I have rarely seen her so happy. And she was tired!
Also, we met with a trainer last week - it's a start. Still a long, long, long way to go before we can go for a walk in the 'hood without massive stress on both our parts. Other less populated places we can go for now. Definitely a work in progress.
Backyard barking is mostly under control thanks to the bark deterrent thingie. Although she has found places that are apparently out of its range. But in the house ... still a challenge. She's definitely barking at something/someone at any given time. We're in a townhouse and they all face into a common area so there's frequently something going on somewhere. She seems to be a little more relaxed and not EVERY car that drives past must be barked at. Or maybe I'm delusional. Hard to tell at this point.
A friend stopped by the house last weekend - that did not go well. Roxy was shut in the backyard while she was there. Talk about stink eye! (Roxy, not my friend. Well, maybe my friend a little but directed at Roxy.) And Roxy pretty much destroyed the screen door and some damage to the back door as well. That'll teach me! The "funny" thing is the dog door was completely available - six inches away. She obviously doesn't know what it is.
Okay, I've rambled on long enough. I'll see what I can do about more pictures/video.
Love,
Teri
