We are going to adopt a three-legged fur baby. He is missing his left front leg due to an injury. This is my first time owning a cat like him, and I'm wondering how I can make him feel as happy and comfy as possible. What kind of toys should I buy? Are there any issues with climbing cat trees? Should I buy kick toys?
Thank you very much.

Hi and welcome! Thanks so much for joining and asking terrific questions! We wish everyone who adopted a Tripawd would do that, you rock!

So first, here is a link to our What to Know About Adopting a Tripawd article. This explains a lot about what life is like for a 3 legger.

We also have a terrific ebook, Cool Tips for Tripawd Cats that is filled with tons of info and resources.

What kind of toys should I buy? Are there any issues with climbing cat trees? Should I buy kick toys?

Generally, Tripawd cats can play with any toys that a four-legger can play with. Sure, it's a little trickier them with one front leg, but you'll be so surprised at how well they can get along and adapt to things they want to do!

As for cat trees, those are awesome. You do want to make things as easy peasy as possible for him to climb, so adding stairs around the tree, and your house in general, is a great idea. He may or may not use them right away but with some bribery and training he'll figure out that it's much easier to use the stairs than jump.

One of the very best things you can do is to keep him slim slim slim. The less weight on a Tripawd, the better.

Not sure what a kick toy is, can you tell me more? Or one of our other Trikitty members can fill me in!

What's his name? Age? Breed type?

Hi Jerry! Thank you very much for your answer. Axel is a wonderful 5 months old Scottish Fold, and I can't wait to bring him home. I am still researching the toy issue; I found something about cat trees (for example, https://catspur.....-cats.html), however, I will research this question thoroughly and analyze the reviews before making the final choice.

As for kick toys, here is an example I've read that cats just love them, but I don't know if our boy will like them. What would you recommend? Thank you.

OH! DUH! Kick toys for cats who bunny kick! Now I get it!

I figure it can't hurt to try one out and see how it goes. Seems to me like bunny kicking is something most cats do and this would be a good way to prevent your kitty from doing it to you!

As for cat trees, we have all sorts of cat tree discussions here, but this one is especially good with pics of Tripawd Huckleberry's trees:

I can't wait to see what you decide!
