Hi, My name is Ani, I hope to make myself understood because English is not my native language. My boyfriend and I rescued a cat in the street, we found him when he was two months old and had an injured leg, at the vet they told us that he had a broken leg but that he could heal, in two months we gave him therapy, we followed the indications but he did not heal and his leg began to necrot.
That same day his leg was amputated at the elbow but his wound has not healed. He has a month that was amputated and he has had to put points back twice, both times the points are bounced again.We have come with different veterinarians but they do not tell us something concrete, we do not know if it will heal, it no longer supports another anesthesia and we do not know what else to do. it hurts us to see it without a normal cat life and I don't know if any of you went through the same thing and did it. We don't want more unnecessary suffering for him. Thanks to whoever reads me

Partial amputations often have difficulty healing. Please consult with a board certified surgeon to determine if proper closure of the wound is possible with the existing skin available. Otherwise amputation of the remaining appendage may be required.

Sorry, my cat's name is Tuchy. Thank you very much for answering! in the second intervention that they did they opened a little more to be able to take some of that skin and so that it could close properly, unfortunately that same skin is the one that was reopened. We consulted the surgeon and told ourselves that it was better to heal that wound but we no longer know whether to consult another. The last sedation affected Tuchy quite a lot and for the months he has, he can't stand another sedation. Tomorrow he has an appointment again with the vet to see what his turn is this time. Hi, we took Tuchy to the vet, they checked the wound and the vet told us that he didn't have enough skin to close the wound and it is necessary to amputate completely. About sedation they will opt for gas sedation due to the number of times they have sedated it, they told us that there are always risks but he is still very young and has a good chance of successful surgery and good recovery. The surgery will be Friday, I hope that with this operation he will finally heal and have a happy cat life. I will keep you informed, greetings to all!
Oh that is a bummer, I'm sorry Tuchy has to have another surgery. Make sure your kitty will have good pain management (medication) when she comes home. That can make or break a surgery recovery. We will keep our paws crossed that recovery is easy and quick.
Most times this is exactly what's needed to help a situation like this (it's called an "amputation correction" surgery). Hi Ani, Tuchy is so lucky to have met you and your boyfriend! It's obvious you are giving him lots of love and care.
I don't understand why vets do partial amputations. They seem to cause problems for the cat like Tuchy is having.
Thankfully anesthetics are much better these days than in the past. I hope Tuchy's surgery goes well and it's the final one needed for Tuchy to live a full and happy life.

Thank you very much for your words, they mean a lot to us. As soon as I know what type of medication for recovery they will give, I will put it here. We also don't know why they did this type of surgery, all the vets we consulted asked us the same thing. Unfortunately, Tuchy is who is suffering. I really hope it is a successful surgery and has a quick recovery, we can't stand to see it suffer.

Hi, Tuchy is fine but they operate until Sunday. He was prescribed a pain medication but it did not suit him and the veterinarian decided that the operation would be postponed.
We have many mixed feelings, the fear that he does not support the operation, seeing what the open wound bothers him, seeing him tired of so many interventions and visits to the vet and the concern of our family to see us already so distressed and giving everything for Tuchy : time, in care, emotionally and economically. It is very tiring to think that another hard week is coming for him and we just want to see him not suffer.

I can't blame you for being worried. One surgery is a lot, two is overwhelming. Try to look at it like this: with the second one, you will fix the problem once and for all and Tuchy can go on to live his normal, happy life. He's already been through a recovery, and so have you. That means you know exactly what to do to keep him comfortable, and yourself mentally sane. You've got this.

Just catching up on your sweet Tuchy. You and your family have given him so much love and care and have gone above and beyond what many would do. In spite of all he's been through, he's a very lucky kitty to have your love and dev.
You have been through so much on so ,any levels, yet you are still willing to do whatever it takes to give Tuchy a quality, pain free life.
Sure, you have another recovery to go through again and that wI'll be rough for another week or two, You already sort of know what to expect so, in a way, it may be a little less stressful for you.
Another thing to keep in mind...it's one aurgery, one recovery and then DONE!!! Tuchy can enjoy being a normal kitty and be his curious, playful self once and for all!
And another thing that hopef eill help make things less stressful, you have us! You have a whole team here ro suppprt you and help you navigate through recovery! YOU ARE. NOT ALONE!!!

Hi everyone! Tuchy left his surgery very well, his scapula was removed and he stayed in the hospital for one more day. He is already with us at home and he is very well, with his latest medication combo. Tuchy can walk very well without the stump and is in a good mood, has better balance than when he had stump. We are very happy to see that his wound is good and he is finally healing properly. On Sunday you have an appointment with his vet to let us know if we have specified bandages or not. I want to thank you again for the words of support from each one of you, they helped you read them in times of uncertainty. I will keep in touch, hugs to everyone!
YAAAAY FOR TUCHY!!!! So glad to hear the surgery went well and recovery has started! Yes, do keep us updated when you have a chance. Recovery will have some ups and downs the next two weeks, but as you can already tell, this was DEFINITELY the right path to take to give Tuchy a better life!!!
