I ordered 0 -3 months t shirts and will sew one side.

So am I understanding that it is best to have the cone- when do you switch to the shirt? Can you use the shirt right away?

Sumi -

I just wanted to reach out and say congrats for making a choice! I'm so glad! I will be thinking extra-positive thoughts for you and Pittens! Oh, and BTW I think your choice sounds like the right one for you both right now. 🙂

Hugs,

Good morning!

A decision has been made, I know this must give you some relief! Sewing the arm of the onesie is exactly what is done. Sally gave you those pawsome links, they will be very helpful. I tried shredded newspaper for Huck, it was kind of a flop but remember he was a feral cat that was just learning the whole litterbox thing to begin with!

She may or may not take to the yesterdays news. Worlds Greatest is what we use here, and Huck ended up using that. There are others that have also used regular litter and did ok, just need to watch the incision. If you have a short box, like the kind that holds a case of canned goods for instance, and you line the bottom with newspaper you can reuse it. She may need a box with a lower entry on one side. She will very likely need some assistance in the beginning. Pee pads can be helpful in case she has an accident while she is laying down. They will help to save her bedding, your rug, floor, etc. I got some from Amazon that were large and I used them to line the crate that Huck was in. They were a lifesaver.

If they let you, take an old soft shirt, like a tshirt and wear it for a day. See if you can send that with her. Your scent on the tshirt will help to comfort her if they allow it. Without poopiconcovid it would not have been an issue, now I do not know.

She may do just fine with the tshirt. There are soft cones too. Depends on how she is. You don't want her ripping that incision open.

Getting some jarred baby food meats, stinky canned kitty food, a variety may be very helpful to have on hand. The anesthesia and pain meds can mess with their appetite. It is important to keep them hydrated. Bone broth, low sodium chicken broth can be good to have on hand too. I got the Senior Delectables Squeeze Ups for Huck and he still loves those to this day. If they do not drink enough it can hurt them. If she even eats the wet food it is about 80% water so she will be getting some fluids.

I need to get ready for work. I will be back later to check in.

Jackie and Hucksp_hearticon2

Hi Everyone,

What is the best collar to get- she can't stand the plastic hard cone I ordered the cozy cone but the flower petal one mentioned in the book- is not available till the 24th.

Also what orthopedic bed do you recommend?

Update: she hasn't left her bed AT ALL today. the abscess has blood emerging- I feel confident this is the best route to take- I am scared very scared of post op.

Sorry for the rapid fire of questions about the collar and pills.

I ordered world best litter , a litter pan and for the floors the rubber puzzle pieces mat to put through out for traction and easy clean up- and also pee pads.

also she sleeps in the same room with me- but so do the 2 others. Past few nights she has been sleeping alone- she goes in waves. and she hasn't moved today- but she is eating and everyone has actually been sleepy today.

I am actually waiting for surgery now so this ends. I am scared beyond belief of post op- but this is the RIGHT move.

I plan to keep her in her own room . I read not to sleep there on the floor and make it an "event".

should I get a baby monitor?

Ok, so.. we spent a lot of time with Huck. Some people sleep with them,  some don't.  I personally think it is a personal choice depending on how the whole scene feels.  With her being older I think if you feel the need to stay with her throughout the evening,  just do it.

Huck does not have a raised feeder but big dif between rear and front for feeding.  I have seen them 6ish inches high? Look at her standing and see how low her head could comfortably go.  Probably shoulder level.

Her not moving today at all worries me.  Please let her doctor know,  ok?

Jackie and Huck❤

Not sure you have to worry about ortho bed? You can easily fold a big bath towel for her, and if she dirties it easy to wash.  Big thing with dogs and ortho bed is for firmness.  You don't want soft and mushy.  She needs traction to get around.

Your collar may be fine.  None are ever happy with collar,  especially cats.  I could not collar Huck,  he would have shredded me alive,  lol. Try your collar.  Many do very well with baby onesie instead.

How are you holding up? Im so glad she's acting better but please keep an eye and still tell doctor,  ok?

❤❤❤

Yes I will email the doctor now. Im feeling high strung as you can see hahaha. But  every which way I go in my head it confirms this is the right decision. Its the most ethical and right for her. She wants to live - and I want to give her some life without pain. This state we are in now- one million percent can not continue.

Thank yousp_hearticon2
