Well she did it! She pooped A LOT and made a HUGE mess of herself. And boy was it STINKY! I have been putting her in bed when we go to bed, but I decided that tonight I’m going to keep her on the floor. I’m glad I did. She did most of her business in the clay litter, but was actually going back and forth between both litter boxes (they were right up against one another). I hope she won’t be messy from here on out. I am SO GLAD I had pet shampoo.

Jerry, she never goes in the bathroom, but I put a rug where I was standing that is the direction to the rest of the house.

HAHAHA!!! That disco poop made me laugh so hard!!!

So I’ve been leaving the bedroom door opened if Tuni decides that she wants to join me in the family room. All day she stayed put in the bedroom, but a few hours ago she surprised me when she showed up in the family room! I worked with her to practice walking up and down the ramp before letting her cuddle up on the couch. About 20 mins ago, she gave a “pain” meow. So I gave her a pain pill and took her back to the bedroom and closed the door. As much as I want her to move around, I need to think about her recovery (even after so many positives) and shut the bedroom door to let her rest. That was hard for me cause of course we all want recovery to be quick, but this is what’s best for her!

Earlier today, she peed in the clay litter again. I was hoping she wouldn’t get attached cause I went to pellets 3 years ago cause they didn’t track it all over the house so much. But, maybe clay might be better for her. It might mean a lot more vacuuming in my part. I might just have two cat litters … one clay, one pellet. Maybe Possum will only use the pellet and Tuni will use clay. I might be okay with that, cause that means only 1/2 the tracking. 😂

Also I want to think that the pain is more so stemming from her back leg now carrying a lot of her weight. She’s been laying her in incision side a lot more now, and I’ve been able to carry her easily with my hand cuspped under her butt. There seems to be no pain from her incision.

Every day she gets better and better. I love that you helped her practice on the ramp before getting up to cuddle. GREAT move! And yep, it's tiring so no wonder she felt some discomfort after that workout. Smart move to let her rest, as hard as it was to require her to chill.

It could mean two cat litters now but maybe not, it's still early, she may go back to the pellets.

Glad the disco poop gave everyone a smile😁
How is Petunia doing today? How is the ramp training going? Do you feel more comfortable with her on the ramp? I hope so i do think it will be easier on her.

She is getting used to her new gait and body; her body is likely sore. Having that herpes flare set her recovery back, she really has come a long way in a short time for senior kitty with that extra wallop to her. Is she done with the antiviral?

My guess is the pellets are harder for Petunia to find her balance in right now. She will get stronger every day. I love that you gave her a choice, even if it's not your choice. I bet Possum ends up using the clay too. I'll hope not for your sake. A good litter mat helps but as you know, there is no comparison to the pellets. We use a grass clumping, now with only one furmily member, we never have litter tracking thru the house but a little on the litter mat. Purrkins doesn't dig to China with his one leg, which is a big difference. His brother dug to China and back.

That is a super good point about the pellets, I know I'd have a hard time balancing on something like that if I was missing a leg (and maybe even if I wasn't)!

Grass clumping clay? As in litter made from grass? The things I learn from you!

Yep, clumping litter made from grass. Smart Cat Litter 😁 Amazon has it, of course. We had the boys trial all the natural litter: wood, pine, walnut, corn, and paper. They picked this one 8 or so years ago. All the natural litter tracks, but now, with only Mr. Purrkins, our litter mat catches it. There is zero dust.

It's a lovely memory we chuckle to. He would help Purrkins cover his business if he did not cover it completely. He was the best brother!💝💔

sorry for the highjack post, Samantha back to Petunia 😘

Wow that's nice, I've never heard of it before. Sounds like a great choice and a lot healthier for everyone.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

You both are always welcome to hijack my post!!! It’s for a good cause  … still teaching Jerry new things! 😀

So Petunia is doing good, I think. She is still in the anti-viral meds, but I think I’m going to stop cause she hasn’t had a symptom for a week and she started the anti-bacterial one two weeks ago. The vet said to go the entire time, but that’s another 3 weeks of meds. I’ve read that the reason for the month supply is because it can take 2 weeks before it starts working. Well, it started working pretty fast!

I’ve gone back up to giving gabapentin every 8 hours and giving her 1/8-1/4 of Miralax every feeding cause I kept going and feel it should be enough since I’m being consistent since her last poop.

Well, she did go poop today! And it was another big one, but she did it ALL in the SAME SPOT! It was softer than a normal poop, but not messy like last time, which thank goodness cause she pooped when I was gone for 3 hours! So that’s only 4 days since her last! She’s making the gap smaller, which is another reason I’m sticking with 1/4tsp of Miralax. The funny thing is this time she went in the pellet litter! Last two times she peed was in the clay. I decided to remove the small disposable litter box and replace the pellet with the clay in the large one. I figured that this will be easier on her right now. I can always switch back when her back leg gets stronger. I got very lucky with two kitties who don’t mind change. 😀

As for her walking, well she’s not really doing it a lot. And I see why carpet and rugs are important. I would do ANYTHING for my kitties, but I just can’t afford anything more than I have right now. And trust me when I say it breaks my heart! I was even thinking about taking out a loan to carpet two rooms, but I don’t think that’s a smart idea. It’s just me paying for the mortgage, bills, food and my kitties who cost me A LOT this last year in vet bills alone. I feel so defeated and I hope that she will be able to adjust just fine with what I have. She just has to.

The ramp is okay, but it literally needs to be at a 16 degree angle for her to be able to get up it, especially with one back leg. I have it sitting on the second step of a 3 step pet stair, so I think I can make it work. I’m hoping that her back leg will only get stronger. It just seems like a struggle. BUT! I promise this time I’m not letting it get to my head. I’m done with that mental overload. 😂 I’m just going to be patient.
