In October our 7 year old long haired tabby Binx was diagnosed with FISS after a surgical procedure to remove the tumor by our local vet we thought that it was over. Flash forward to January and it is back. Honestly, I had no idea that this was life threatening. The original tumor seemed to be so squishy and flabby that it would be an easy removal, our vet seemed to give us a "no big deal" attitude about it. Now i know. I feel so incredibly angry and stupid. I am taking him today to a cat specialty clinic in Omaha. My best hope is that the vet there will be able to remove his left hind leg although the new tumor seems to have move up more to his hip area and is harder than the first. I will just have to wait and see. Despite all of this, my sweet boy is very happy. Eating, playing and cuddling. He has gotten me through some very dark days and I am terrified of loosing him. I am thankful that I found this community. Any and all suggestions and comments are appreciatedsp_hearticon2.

Hi and welcome to you and Binx. We are so sorry you had to join our club, it's not what anyone ever expects to do. But we are glad you are here and will help you and Binx get through this.

Don't feel stupid, this isn't your fault. Many of us have gone through the exact same thing only to have the path lead to amputation. It's not something anyone wants to rush into. We all learn from a situation like this, and what we learn we pass on to others so they can help their pets too. Binx isn't mad at you, you shouldn't be either OK?

I'm so happy you found a feline friendly clinic, that's wonderful! You will notice such a huge difference in care. Check out what Purrkins has to say about them:

Try not to jump to worst case conclusion. You are getting Binx the kind of care he needs right now and that's what counts. He is still himself and doing well so that's a huge plus. In the meantime you can prepare by reading Cool Tips for Tripawd Cats , checking out our What to Expect articles , and these questions to ask your vet about amputation surgery.

Oh and you might have seen this topic, but it's really good when you're dealing with FISS:

Stay tuned for feedback from others!

Hello, and Welcome, sorry you had to find us and dealing with FISS.

I can only ditto Jerry; she gave you excellent advice and links!

I'm so sorry your vet did not explain in-depth about FISS. This is not your fault, and you most certainly are not stupid! You are entitled to anger, even more, when the professional misled or did not inform you. So use that anger just like you are and work on the solution to help Binx.

You did EXCELLENT finding a feline practice; they know the depth of this cancer they may send you to an oncologist, I'm not sure. Either way, they will inform you and help you with each step forward.

As Jerry posted we made the switch to a feline only hospital! I HOPE they are all like ours. You will leave informed and have a plan forward. They care for our cats like they are their own.

We will keep our paws and fingers crossed and wait to hear how you made out today.

Update us when you have time.

Hugs & scratches to Binx, please

Thank you very much for the encouragement. I'm glad I am not alone. We are getting a CT scan on Tomorrow to make sure it has not metastasized to his liver, from there we will make the decision. I am hopeful that we will be able to amputate and he will live a long life. Thank you very much!
