I’m so glad to see this update! Yep when you see Huckleberry is ok everything changes. That’s what I was hoping for ! I know it did with me! When Purrkins rolled on his back, wanted his belly rubbed and started to purr he was happy to see me, I could see Purrkins was in there! I knew the same thing he was ok we did the right thing and all was going to be ok!

All will be ok with your Huckster. Of course he doesn’t hate you he is home they don’t hate us or blame us, That is our crazy human brain thinking not theirs!

I’m not surprised you couldn’t find the diffuser really we go into a auto pilot mode when we are tired and stressed ! You ordered it and you had no big deal, frustrating for you I’m sure. Your were exhausted from worrying.

I’m sure Huckleberry will enjoy the tunes being home and covered up and smelling the pheromones ! We are all happy he is home and recovery has begun!! Glad to hear you sounding way better too!

Great job today for advocating for him for getting him home you absolutely did the right thing!!
& great job Dad for making him a bed or litter pan whichever he chooses it to be. Ditto be proud yourself clapYAAAAY we are!

OUCH on that X-ray Huckleberry will feel much better without that leg!

You tube is easy you will figure it out;) Yep all a learning processwinker Keep healing Huckleberry rest is best buddy!

Thank you, it is so good to get him home! Newspaper was not happening, by morning he still had not gone. I took out the paper, replaced it with litter and magic... he went right over (looked at me like..It's About TIME!)

We don't want to eat yet, but papa Dave is going to the animal hospital to get some Hill's A/Dway-cool and some fishy fancy feast. I think I turned him off on tuna..at least for a while.

He seems to be doing ok without his E-collar, gave himself a bath and did not go near that area.  While I was searching the house for the diffuser I came across something I purchased for one of them at some point. It is like band guard, you dab a little bit around the surgical site and it tastes awful. If I see that little mouth nibble that way that is what I will try.

I cannot believe how sweet he has been since he got home. I know it is probably the drugs, but I would love to think maybe some of it is relief from a leg that had to hurt awful bad. He just seems so comfy right now, if we get him to eat and I can give him some gaba I will be a happy mama big-blink

Yep sometimes our cats don't like litter change that all usually needs to be changed slowly and gradually! To Huckleberry he was what is the paper for??!!?! Good job replacing it and YAAAAY for PEE

4js9zjCt9x-4.jpg

Ok good job on the food, don't put his meds in his food or he will avoid his food. I thought your were doing the tuna water separate or was I wrong? Do separate if you were not! Can you syringe him at all? That's normal for some kitties to not want to eat in recovery its the pain meds. Try anything with us the smellier the foods worked. Tuna & Salmon, Chicken & Herring. Fancy Feast I bet will be a hit ! AD you can syringe if need be too. Great recovery food! You already know that I'm surewinker

It could be the drugs? I know our one kitty's is more of love bug when he comes home after being doped up . Purrkins is that way all the time, he really wasn't much different. Huckleberry very well could just be relieved of that painful leg being gone.  If your home to watch him 24-7 and the confe free works great! Kerren's Mona to this day has been the only kitty to go naked and did good. So we will keep paws crossed it works for you too! Keep eyes on him someone 24-7 you don't want him to get ahold of it or even lick the incision. Hope to hear Huckleberry eats for you! You can warm foods to anything to get his senses past the pain meds.

I love that he's being so sweet and have no doubt that he's grateful to be rid of that bum leg. It had to have really hurt.

Hope he likes the new food!

Somehow Mona's vet totally understood her - he didn't send her home with a cone but a can of kitten food which she loved. I'm sure Huckleberry will eat when he's hungry and the medications? Well, those are always a challenge. Tuna isn't balanced in cat nutrients and he may be looking for a balanced meal, how about a freshly caught mouse?

Huckleberry was reading the newspaper, not peeing on it. He's a smart fellow. big-grin

Thank you! I thought he was worn out on the tuna from Thu morning.  I asked David to put the medicine in 1/3 of the can of A/D. He wouldn't touch it.  When I got home  I warmed up the solid tuna and mixed it with the food.  He chowed it up! He is comfortable,  has been eating wet and dry food ever since.  I just want to see him poop and then we will stop holding our breath.  He let me put ice on his lil stump.  Yes... He did.  We went downstairs to finish making dinner. I ran up to check on him before we sat to eat,  and he spilled his water all over😲😲!!  I yelled down to David for help,  hurried and cleaned it up,  put down pee  pads, changed his blanket and smelled something burning....Oh crap, it was the bread in the oven!!

Smoke detectors went off,  scared the heck out of every body, i opened some windows,  sliced more bread,  warmed it in the already hot oven,  and we finally got dinner,  lol. I'm going to sleep tonight...

Huckleberry really does seem to be ahead kf the curve so far!  Eating, drinking, already movile...yeah, hesw doing really well!!   The poopicon_png will happen.  The pain meds kind of play havoc for a couple of days sometimes when it comes to poopicon_png

One of our kitty experts can give yoummkre advice on how to get things "moving" along.  But no worries, it'll halpen.

He looks quite comfy in his little recovery "den".  It looks like the Vet didn't get too clipper happy when it came to shaving his fur.  Sometimes they can really overdo it!

Nkw if Huckleberry has a bit of a crash in a day ir two, don't let that frighten you.  The hospital meds will all be out of his system and sometimes they start to feel the surgery a little more at that point.

Well you've certainly had a little "comic relief" duri g all this!  The burned bread...the smoke alarm...LOL 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂   Okay, maybe you weren't laughing...but I'm afraid we are! 🙂 🙂

Huckleberry sweet beautiful boy.

Mum & Dad, It sounds like you are doing a fantastic job, along with Huckleberry in his recovery! He and Mona are going to be the Necked    Tripawd Champions!🐈🥇🐈🥈

i sympathize with the smoke alarm hysterics! When the smoke alarm goes off in this house, you’d think that 3rd 🌎 war had broken our and all cats are running for shelter! 🙀🙀🙀 Thank goodness for Temptation treats!🐠🐟

That break in his leg looked to be amazingly painful! It’s no winder he is all about lovin’ you right now! I’d be all over you as well if you got rid of my hurt like that! 👏😻

Keep us all posted as to how huckleberry is doing! That beautiful Prince!❤️

Sloppy kisses from Stewie👅 🐕 🐾

I just want to see him poop and then we will stop holding our breath.

Yes the pain meds can make them not poop .poopicon_png
I gave Purrkins 1/16th tsp Miralax on the 6th day and 1/8 tsp on the 7th day. We got BM day 8💩

Don’t worry so much about the no poop but you can always add a little Miralax, you can get anywhere its a powder and tasteless (grocery store, drugstore, Walmart etc. )  You can mix it with food, best to add little water or the tuna water. Don’t have to but it works better with liquid added! (just be careful on adding everything to his food) Try the tuna water he should lap that right up.

Those doses are tiny doses! Purrkins brother has had bouts with constipation & backed up like your Andy, I use miralax on him daily and it keeps him going nicely. You don’t need a script and it works better then Latulose a script from the Vet. Both our Vets know and approve, our Vets now suggests the Miralax over Latulose to his patients 😉

  • Miralax- Over the counter - does not affect blood sugar
  • Latulose - can raise calcium levels in the blood , can affect blood sugar, need a Script, can rot teeth
  • (it’s sticky icky mess and the cats don’t like it )
  • Megacolon kitties use it with success!
Wide dosage range 1/8-1/4 teaspoon orally twice a day with food. Some cats need a heaping tablespoon plus)

Start small like I did with Purrkins, I don’t think you will need much!  Saxton I use 1/2 tablespoon 2X daily

Glad to hear Huckleberry is comfortable & you got his Gaba in him! Great he is letting you ice his incision! & Ditto Sally they didn’t go clipper crazy!!

YAAAAY clapNot exactly normal they usually go way overboard and we all appreciate less clipper crazy!

Hope you all slept soundly last night!

Hugs,

Holly & Purrkinsheart

Good morning,

We woke up to a happy kitty, empty bowls, and the big brown mound in the box.... is there such a thing as a                                       "poopicon_pngpoopie poopicon_pngdancepoopicon_png" ??  LOL!  I slept like a bear, David did too, and prince Huckles looked purrrfectly content and looking for food when we entered his guest suite clap

Brother Andy, my feral kitty whisperer, came in to visit this morning.  It's a good thing I was sitting on the floor because that cat is a total riot. I was wishing so badly that I had my phone with me. He did the "slow motion kitty" in to the bedroom. Belly down, almost dragging the floor walking ever so slowly like - If I go slow enough nobody will notice me, oh my goodness. Andy is probably 13 or 14 pounds, looks like a furry overstuffed marshmallow. He has done his darndest to make Huckleberry feel welcome and unthreatened.  Huckles watched him, Andy watched Huckles like ..you don't see this... ever so slowly did one sweep of the suite, turned around and slow mo'ed back out into the hallway, I was rolling laughing.  I will try to get a picture of the overstuffed crusader in action, he is a worst food a holic than I am!

I believe I have some Miralax, you are right it is good stuff. That is a great idea, never thought about that. The old fashioned mama usually sticks to canned pumpkin mixed in with canned food. The Miralax would be a lot less obvious. I think the A/D helped to get things moving, it is a rich food high in calories and nutrients.

I am going to try to get the gaba in to him each afternoon in hopes that it keeps his evenings calm. I will keep it to tuna with juice, he doesn't seem to mind it as long as there is actual tuna mixed in.   Thank you for all this advice, it has helped a great deal!

Hugs,

Jackie, David, Prince Huckleberry, Andy and Oscar
