Huckleberry darling! You are one lucky fella to have such beautiful visitors hanging out with you in you recovery ward! You all look very comfortable! All three of my boys were listening to the birdie singing too and were wondering why I have the bird in my lap?!laughing

And you wouldn’t want to make things too easy on Mum & Dad would you.... after all, you’ve got a reputation of being a bad ass feral kitty to keep up heh?! Only one more day darling and you get your stitches out, we are all so very excited for you!!!clap

Im glad you didn’t worry your pawrents too much lovey! It’s so important to take your meds, but it’s even more important to keep up with the 💩!

Aren’t cardboard boxes fun?! That lovely scratchy sound it makes and ohhh the feel of a quality cardboard... make sure your Mum & Dad are getting you the highest quality thread count possible! I know it’s a little extravagant, but you deserve the best Pal! Chester is the quality control officer around here for cardboard thread count checking! He tries them all out for hide and seek purposes and oh the lovely box rides.... there’s nothing like it!!!

Miss Lily discovered toys too when she arrived into our home! She is sooo grateful to be out of the damp and cold, she doesn’t mind that she has to catch a play mouse in order to get her supper! She loves to show off by running around like a bat out of helllittle-deviland then makes very funny noises when she catches her intended victim! With your big paws boyo, you should be an EXCELLENT hunter!

Sending hugs and cuddles and a million chin rubs for all of your beautiful kittens!

lots of love from Petra, Stewie and his ever adoring Pack! heart

Hey guys,

Today has been a bit trying.  I went out of the house for the first time in days to get my nails done  and grocery shop. Came home 2 hours later to find a feral cat in his cage that hissed and almost bit me...oh my freaking word are you SERIOUS??? I have no ideas about what or why.  I backed off,  came back to visit twice again before he was himself. Did I catch a bad scent? No freaking idea.  I washed my hands 3 times to make sure I was clean. He's fine now and I got to medicate him,  thank goodness.  Everybody thinks he is so sweet (btw he is, lol ) but it has been a long road to find sweet that isn't so gunshy. That he wouldn't wouldn't bite or claw out of fear.  I have never in all my years seen this behavior in a cat. You're either good or your not,  period! If you're not then you work until you gain it but this??? I layed with him and rubbed his damn belly last night!!! I have had his trust for weeks now,  I am truly dumbfounded.  He has eaten,  rested,  played and gotten lots of love today.  I go back to work in the morning😕 I guess this is going to be a one day at a time deal til i see what's going on. Big hugs and thanks for giving me a place to vent and ramble 😢. Just thinking good thoughts and that this is a stage he's going through like the terrible teens mad

Jackie xo 😽❤

Hey Jackie! I'm in the Tripawds Chat for a few minutes if you want to talk.

Oh gosh all I can think of is that he had a bad day. We all have them right? And then we move on and the next day is better than before. So heck, I'd say chalk it up to maybe something that was on his mind and bothering him and you showed up at the moment when he felt like lashing out. Um, kinda like a teenager!

If he's eating, drinking and pooping and all that (and taking his medicine) then he's probably fine. If it continues let the vet know of course. But hopefully tomorrow he'll be in a better state of mind.

Jackie, please take a deep breath, sit down and have a cup of tea with me for a moment! As the jolly old Britons would say: “Keep Calm & Carry On!”

I have just filled Paul in on Prince Huckberry’s journey. We are both complete cat lovers and we have both had experience with wild, feral cats and we have two of them as members of our family. Miss Lily has been with us in our home for a full year now and there are times that she still falls back into feral mode very quickly, especially with our Chester Molester! Even when Paul is rubbing her bum (a very sensitive and most times an extremely lovely spot on cats!) she will be able to handle it for a couple of minutes and then she switches! He said it is probably because he has a little fear  of her because she swatted him across the face within the first two weeks of her being with us. I have never been afraid or concerned about her scratching me, (after being a mobile groomer for 10 years, I’ve had to deal with a lot of ornery dogs and cats!) so she will stop and correct herself with me, just before the critical hurting point. I never pull away, but I also don’t put my face into harms way. That is a very critical thing with any insecure or fearful animal!! Only when I know that she is completely calm and open to some lovin’ do I lean my face in for nose and brow kisses and head bops. The fact that Huckleberry has given you his belly already is a huge success for you all!

Paul and I are travelling musicians and we need to go out of town sometimes on overnight trips. (We have a neighbor come in 3 times a day to tend to their many needs!winkerEvery time we return home Miss Lily always goes running to the bedroom, under the bed to her safety spot!oh-my It usually takes about half an hour of singing her name and rattling her treat cup a few times, for her to come trotting out and then everything is back to Miss Prisses expectations!

Paul and I both believe that due to the fact that you have been Huckleberry’s saviour right from day one. You have never left himalone in the house. Even when you have taken him to the vets he is with people, granted in a very strange place, but none the less distracted on enough drugs to keep him cloudy. This time, he was left alone in the house, feeling trapped and his instincts more than likely kicked in and he wanted to escape for fear of being trapped and abandoned!

Not only has Huckleberry had to adjust to the removal of a limb, he has been through a traumatic recovery, (this surgery is traumatic to any one of us right, but to a feral animal it is that much worse!) coming down off some very heavy drugs and then his people that he has trusted impeccably has locked him up and all he knows is that he can’t sense you in his kingdom anymore and he was terribly afraid! Don’t feel bad about this! it is something that he is going to have to work through for himself... he has, from what I can understand, only been a house kitty for a few weeks, YOU HAVE COME LEAPS AND BOUNDS AND HOPS WITH HIM!!!! Huckleberry was trying to tell you that he was afraid and feeling very insecure! If you think you have needed patience with a cat of any nature before, you need 10 times more patience and calm demeanour with a truly feral cat!

Always feel very centred when you are with Huckleberry and if he is feeling a little insecure, try a little meditation before you visit with him or something of the sort. He will fall back into his cuddly self again in no time and each time will be less aggressive to you and the world at large! He has to figure out that you really have his best interest at heart in everything you do for him and that includes having to sometimes be kept in a locked up room! Also, always let him smell you before you start petting, you should see what type of mood he is in by the face he give you when he is smelling... if all is good I usually extend my forefinger to Miss Lily at this point to do a ‘nose bop’. If all still remains good then I will pet her.

When Miss Lily arrived in our home last year, she was kept in the spare bedroom and the door would only be opened if Mum or Dad was around. That was two weeks. Once things appeared to be relatively calm with very little growls sesions at the door, we put a large screen door over the bedroom entryway. That was also for two weeks. In the fifth week we allowed Miss Lily freedom of the house, but only during the day. She would go into her room at night, with a closed door, so that Paul and I could have ‘scrap free’ sleeps! She would be flying circles in the room every night for about 15 minutes, sounding like the Tazmanian Devil and then she would settle down! She was and still is the most vocal cat I’ve ever encountered!

During the day I was a little worried when she went downstairs, but I closed all doors that could lead to troubled waters. But for the most part she found her bedroom to be her safe spot. (Our bedroom is now her new safe spot!) Chester was and still is her biggest issue... he loves to be in everybody’s face and because Miss Lily was raped when she was still too young...(she was a very good mum to 5 kittens!)  she feels threatened by Chester! Stewie avoids her and Spike couldn’t be bothered with her, so she has no problem with them! Right now  as I write Chester is blocking her on the stairs, so she is growling fiercely at him. 6 months ago it would have been an outright brawl! We don’t let her out of the house at all. I tried taking her out on a leash, but as soon as a leaf blew across the drive, she went snakey! She reverted immediately back to her feral self again! She doesn’t mind being an indoor kitty at all!

So.... in all this rambling, please know that you are doing ALL THE RIGHT THINGS FOR YOUR PRINCE!!! He is just going to take that much more time to adjust than you have been used to in the past. I once found a stray that was so happy to be in a safe cozy warm home, he became a complete slut for attention! But he then became the biggest target for the next wild cat I brought home... (in comes Mr. Spike!) Be okay with the fact that you may have to close the door on your Prince and leave him sometimes, he will get used to it! Try more practice runs of leaving him in his room and going for drives around the block. Come into his room very quietly and talk him into some lovin again. If he’s not ready, just walk away with the door open... he’ll figure things out eventually!

Sorry for making this a book in itself, but I couldn’t be with you to give you a massive hug and tell you that all is okay!

Calm Cat Purrrs coming your way!

love Petra, Paul, Mr. Spike, Chester McLovey, Miss Lily Bird and of course your partner in TriPower, Super Stu!❤️❤️❤️

My first thought is Yesterday was the first day Huckleberry did not receive any Buprenorphine.
I know your were giving Gaba. But the Gaba was stopped and restarted on Saturday, it is possible he is in pain. I don’t know how often you were giving the Gaba or what your instructions were.

I know your going to the Vet today to get staples removed see how today goes and bring this up to the Vet today.

Huckleberry was fine until the meds ran out ?

Is Your Dog or Cat in Pain? Here’s How to Know the Signs
http://tripawds.....utee-pain/

Do hope things got better after the meds where given? If so this needs to be talked about today. Not all animals have the same pain meds and durations . Like humans some need them longer then others.

Let us know how it goes later.

You are so sweet, thank you for all the words of encouragement. I agree with you on the going in grounded, and I always try to be so when I go in to his room. He really surprised me, and that part is ok because I just kinda  froze in place and let him finish his hissy fit. I backed slowly out away from the crate and walked out of the room. I went back in 3 times and on the third try he was back to being his sweet self. It was almost like he caught a whiff of something on me that totally put him off.

When I visited him before I went to bed he layed on his back and stretched out like we never argued. He is going to put me through my paces isn't he?? I am hoping today finally to let him out of the crate, might wait until tomorrow after the office visit wears off. He should be staple free this evening. I had a baby gate to separate the entrance for David and I but it was too small so I will have to devise something. After free run of the room I will let Andy in to visit without cell bars between them, lol. See how that goes. I will let Oscar meet him on his own terms. My feral kitten (that's now 2+ years old) has been slowly going in to check it all out.

Thank you so much Petra, that cup of tea did my heart good smileyToday is my first day back to work... sigh. I will meet David at the vet for Huckleberry's visit and come home wasted I am sure.  Fingers crossed that the visit goes well.

Big hugs,

Jackie heart

See! keep Calm & Carry On! A cuppa Charlie 🍵 always goes down lovely when feeling stressed! I’m so glad Huckleberry calmed down and apologized to you! He probably didn’t feel very good treating you like that!

I do agree with Holly and Purrkins though, please be sure to mention the incident to you’re vet this afternoon and ask about extra meds in case he needs them. Good luck with getting Huckelberrys stitches out! We are all very excited for him!

when you let Andy and Oscar in for a visit, be sure to be close at hand as they have all had bars separating them up to this point, no bars between them, could be an ‘all off gloves’ moment...have a towel close by in case you need to step in to break something up. Some people yell out or use a spray gun to try and break things up, but that will only cause more anxiety. Better to say nothing and do what needs to be done.

Good luck Mum, it sounds like you have a house full like we do! Never a dull moment heh?! We’re all looking forward to hearing about Prince Huckleberry’s adventures!

lots of cuddles and snuggles,

Petra, Paul, Mr. Spike, Chester McFiend, Miss Lily and of course, our fearless protector, Super Stu!heartheartheart

First day back to work,  on my lunch break.  Yes,  he received one dose of pain med late Saturday,  none Sunday.  None today,  I hope he doesn't give David to much grief trying to get him in the carrier.  He took gaba once Saturday,  once yesterday,  made him so sleepy I didn't want to give second dose. It is hitting him really hard this time. I will definitely tell the doctor,  even David saw how weird he was. I can see a difference in him even if he's not grouchy.  Appetite down,  drinking down,  a little more mopey.  Not quite himself.  Going right to the vet after work,  David is supposed to meet me there.  Fingers crossed.

Hi guys heart

Our boy had staples taken out, OMC he was such a gentleman!!  He behaved like he didn't have a feral bone in his body..I was amazed!  I spoke with the doc about his demeanor, lack of appetite=lack of poop, a newfound interest in sitting in his box full time again .. sigh..

She finally got the picture, asked me if 4 more days of painkillers would be a good thing and I said YES! He has run out of pain meds, what.. 2 or 3 times?? I am forgetting now because it is playing like an old vinyl record with a skip in my head way-confused

We got him home, I cleaned his crate extra good without the resident "in-house", and then I wrapped him in a blankie and carried him over to his clean cell.. umm..  I mean temporary home. Before I let go, I raised him up to my chest and gave him a hug.. I actually got to hold him for the first time since day one big-blink I don't know who got more out of it.. him or me. I snuggled him, he pressed his head up close to me and it was like heaven. Before I pissed him off I sat him gently into his crate and he just looked up at me. Later, David went up to check on him before dinner and he was actually laying on his belly for the first time since he was trapped.  He has pain meds on board, isn't messing with his incision, and is calm and comfy. I am a happy tired mama clap

Big hugs!

Jackie, David, and Huckleberry heart

I am so relieved for all of you! You actually brought tears to my eyes when I read about your snuggle with him!heart He soooo loves you guys!

You know, i have lived and loved cats & dogs all my life and their behaviour fascinates me! I am learning more and more each day, especially since I joined Tripawds. Holly, after all of my gibber on cat psychology, you had right from the get go! (Sorry for talking all of your ears off!laughing) The moral of THIS story is... if your cat all of a suddenly changes behaviour, it could very well be due to pain ughand not because they want to be a catty cat!😾

Hugs to you Huckleberry and cudos to Mum and Dad for taking such good care of you!heartHoping you get more snuggles and cuddles.

Rut ro... which photo did I do that to?  I found a little kitty and paws to put next to our name.. that considered a photo?  That's the only thing I can think of that might be construed as a photo.. here let me find them:

I fell in love with them and used them as emojis big-grin

We slept like the dead last night. Woke up and Mr. Huckleberry ate all his food overnight.. I am beginning to think if he were human that he would raid the fridge every night laughing

He was bright eyed this morning and just as happy as could be. I can tell that the staples out is definitely making a comfort difference.. no more feeling like sittin on needles... literally clap

That hug warmed me... I have been waiting over a year for that to happen!

Sorry if I mis posted something, I will try to make sure that doesn't happen again. I don't think those little shapes counted blushLooking for more emoticons to use, any suggestions? I added them to my media, may I use them now?

Off to get ready for work,
