Yikes! That is so scary, I'm really sorry to hear that Luther is in the hospital. I know how much you must miss him and I feel so bad for you guys that he's had such a rough time. Hopefully this is just what he needs to get his body back into a healthy way again and then after that no more scary vet visits. We have our paws & fingers & tails & toes crossed that he can come home asap, keep us posted OK?

I'm so sorry that Luther has been having such a hard time.  I know the worry you are feeling with having Luther at the clinic for an extended period of time.  My Leland was hospitalized for 4 days with an infection that the vets couldn't get under control which led to his amputation.  It's really tough not having our babies at home with us.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed and sending up a prayer that Luther's condition will improve and stay there.  I also understand your concerns with continuously having him undergo medical procedures.  Luther will let you know when he's tired and has had enough.  Just look into those sweet eyes of his and you'll know.

Keeping you in my thoughts and sending Luther a BIG HUG!

Guess who came home yesterday?!

So his bloods continue to improve and although they aren't back to normal, they were happy that as they've been improving consistently, they were happy to send him home.

I have to call tomorrow to give them an update and we're back on Thursday for a check up.

Considering Luther isn't 100% yet, he's 100% better than he was. He's getting up and about, is bright and alert and eating.

I've made him a promise that he will never spend another night away from home again. If he becomes ill again with anything, then that's it. We will have to let him go. He's been through so much, it's time to leave him be now.

Xxx

YAAAAAY Luther!!!! I knew you could do it!!!!! Time for lots of spoiling and cuddling. Give him some extras from us too.

You have both overcome so much. Treasure each day and live life the way Luther has showed you. What a gift.

So glad he is home! It is so hard to have them stay away from home. Ty's platelets dropped and he had one transfusion. He was in the hospital for 5 days to take care of the MRSA . I missed him so much while he was there. I went to see him, but it was not the same. I would just sit by his cage and pet him. I am sure Luther is enjoying all the extra attention with being home. And breakfast in his bed is ok. I served Ty there a lot. In fact my husband got mad one day when I made eggs for the dog and did not offer him any. LOL glad he is feeling better. Those low platelets can make them feel pretty tired. Lori and Ty

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Shelby Lynne; Jack Russell/Shiba Inu mix. Proud member of the April Angels of 2014.

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

So glad Luther is home and continues to improve! The photo of your big, happy boy says it all. 🙂

Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.

Hi guys,

Well, I don't know what switch has flicked in Luther's head, but since he's been home it's like he's been given a new lease of life!  I think his near-death experience has had a profound effect!  He's brighter, bubblier and more mobile than he was even before his chemo and every day I see him like that, I smile.

I called the surgeon on Monday with an update on him and she couldn't have been more pleased.  She also told me that although the seriousness of his side effects were known to happen, she has never seen or experienced them in her 20 year career.

We're back at the hospital tomorrow for a blood test check up and I'm pretty sure that if they're not all back to normal by then, they will be so close to being.

When we had his stitches out all those weeks ago and our surgeon asked if we thought Luther was happy, we honestly couldn't answer.  Just before he took a health nose dive after the chemo, if you'd have asked me the same question I'd have said that I think he's the happiest he's been since the amp, but probably not as happy as he was before all of this started.  Ask me now and I'd say that I'm sure he's as happy as he was when he was fit on four legs.  He goes into puppy mode in the evenings, rolls on his back and insists on giving us very stinky licks and kisses!  He gets up every time we walk into the kitchen in the hope he'll get something and yesterday he walked the furthest he's walked since being a tripod.

Both hubby and I have agreed that even if we had to lose him now, we would know that he'd go happy and that's all anyone can ever ask for.

My wonderful Luther bear has been renamed Superdog!  laughing
