I thought my oncologist had planned for six chemo treatments, but apparently her protocol is to do five, which means yesterday was IT!!! So happy to be through those!

Hello again from Portland! We are having a weird couple of weeks!

The last time I bought food for Luka, I went back to a type that has higher fat because I thought he'd lost a little weight, but he hated it this time and has eaten very little of it. Ever since the beginning, I have just hurled the gabapentin into the food dish, and he has eaten it with everything else. Now I can't get him to eat it even if it is hidden in the most delicate morsel. I thought maybe there was a gaba explosion (out of the capsule) around the time of the food switch and he is now associating that food with that really bad bitter taste. Anyway, it's been a no-go on dry food or gaba for a few days now. (Great with water, though) Also, he is not wanting to walk much and has had a pretty loose stool. The weather has not been husky-style lately, and in the summer, Luka shifts into low gear anyway, so with all the variables, I have just been hanging out until some obvious trigger occurred or things got better. Today after his ground beef breakfast, he was drooling pretty mightily, so I finally took the step to involve the vets.

We went back to his surgeon, since she really is the most keyed into everything, and she ran a blood test and injected cerenia (b/c of the med-refusal behavior) to combat the nausea from which Luka is clearly suffering. She said he has some abdominal pain, and he had a temp of 104. The hope is that the white blood cell count will be high, showing that he is actively fighting a battle he might win. If it low, well, then, I guess we have walked onto another field of decision-making. He had a clean report with the last onco x-rays on June 10.

On the up-side, the injected cerenia is working well, I think, because he seems to feel a little better. Hopefully, he'll be wanting a walk pretty soon!

I'm glad that the cerenia helped, it always did with Mosby (better than the ondansetron), and I hope he continues to feel better! Sending positive thoughts that his temperature comes down and that the vets can figure out what's going on and come up with a good treatment plan. Keep us updated. Kisses to handsome Luka.

Hope he continues to improve.  Otis was on pretty regular doses of Pepcid A/C, but just indigestion.  I hope the vets can get this resolved.

Sending lots of positive healing energy to sweet Luka!!

Between the fever and the nausea, no wonder Luka was feeling blah.  The indigestion, the loose stool, could all may his tummy tender ro touch.  Glad the Cerenia has helped already.  That's good news.

Also, if he's been in a daily dosenof Gabapentin and is now off that, he may be  a little off because of that too.

LUKA!!   You need a summertime snow blizzard and you'll feel just fine!  Summer heat can zap the best of us!

Update when you can!

Hugs

Thanks for the pill-taking links! Perhaps I can find an answer to the cerenia dose this afternoon.

I just finished talking with the vet, and she had a lot of details about the blood analysis that I can't cover accurately here without seeing them, but the upshot is that the blood work is rather a mess, and Luka is a sick pup. At this point, it does not seem directly related to the osteo, though. I am waiting to set up an appointment for Monday or Tuesday with the internal medicine vet. They will be doing more testing, including x-rays. Of high suspicion is Addison's Disease or an infection. He did eat this morning, which is good.

Mosby happily took his gabipentin (which was in a capsule) happily in a spoonful of natural peanut butter. In the past, we also had good luck cutting open a marshmallow, putting the pill inside, and sealing it back up. Some pills just had to go down the old fashioned way - poke it gently down the back of his mouth, on the side, with my thumb, far enough back that he swallowed it. Good luck, still sending lots of good vibes your way! Keep eating sweet Luka.
