Mary, you've made a decision and now you can move forward. I know you agonized over what to do. There is rarely a clear cut answer with this piece of crap disease. You feel like this is the path that you need to try to give your Lucy a chance.

Now you can focus on all the different ways you can spoil her beyo d what you are already doing! That may be hard because I know you are already spoiling the heck ojt of her!! Have you thought of a scoop of ice cream every night...with sprinkles?winker

We will all be sending positive energy for a really good outcome for Lucy.!! And that's alot of.pawsitivity!!

Update us tomorrow if you have a chance.

Sending lots of love!

wow.. this is crazy. as all cancer stories are so crazy to me always make me gasp..am I understanding right, in some of the above posts.. your vets took the leg with an unconfirmed biopsy that the leg had actual cancer?? then you found a cancer site at a near but different location? Id be furious!!

My girl also was just dx with a grade 3 STS of her lateral hind leg, radiation was an option and that dose sounds about right.. but high level burning can occur but is short lived I was told, starts about week 2 and heals about 3 weeks after the last treatment. But its is ALOT of tx, some places do only sedation, which is possible, because they dont really feel it, they just need to lay perfectly still.

Another option, just to think about, although I am unsure because of her location is incisional injection of chemo to conver any extra cell growth or electrochemotherapy .. again, it might be sight dependent and being up near the chest and heart I am unsure of protocol as it is a newer procedure.

My heart goes out!!

First let me reply to Neka.  Lucy's right front leg was removed about 3.5 years ago.  The MRI showed a mass under her leg that was thought to be a nerve sheath tumor.  When the leg was removed, no tumor found, only degenerative nerves.  We never found out if this was the true reason for the lameness.  The current issue started over a year ago, a lump on the right side of her neck.  Aspirates only showed lipoma.  In January, we felt it was a little larger and out came some blood from that aspirate but no action was deemed necessary.  In June the lump was significantly larger and we were sent to the specialist/surgeon who took care of the amputation years ago.  The CT scan showed either a large blood clot or tumor within the jugular vein.  The next week, July 7, the lump was removed.  Biopsy results showed grade 3 STS.  On July 23rd we saw the oncologist who recommended radiation therapy.  On July 26 a new lump was felt in that same area.

Yesterday another CT scan and aspirate were done on the new lump.  It appears to be inflammation, possibly an interior hole left from the surgery.  No cancer cells found.  They also did an aspirate of the lymph node that is adjacent to this lump and we are supposed to have results back today.

Fingers crossed!!

Lucy was a trooper this week!  Had to stay at the oncologist overnight since Wednesday she went in for radiation and it could not be done because of the new lump.  CT scan needed to be done and they couldn't fit her in until the next day.

I did check out the car safety items here and purchased the Petego car seat extender.  It was here in time for her first trip!  Worked well, still gaps at the ends but she was relatively calm during the ride there, I could not believe it!  We'll see how it continues.  Hopefully now that everyone knows her by name and sound (she's very vocal), we can get her in faster without the waiting room jitters setting in.

I'll let everyone know later on the results!

Lucy's front right leg was amputated 12/19/11. Thankfully there was no tumor, but her nerves were found to be degenerative.  Life as a tripawd is Lucy's new adventure!!

Okay, I just need to start a blog to add the photos.  I can't do it from Facebook....

So Lucy's first week of radiation is complete, she went Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  She was not happy when I left her there but the car rides went okay.  She's vocal but the seat extender that fills in the gaps between the back and front seats is a life saver!

We got the results from the blood work they did on Friday, it indicates she has anemia, possibly from the surgery and cancer...  Poor girl has been sleeping quite a bit but I didn't think about anemia.  I haven't been able to find anything specific I can do or feed her to help with this...  Any ideas?? Of course the oncologist will monitor with weekly blood work...

What is bad is the amount of time it takes 3 days a week to take her back and forth and running into the work day.  I'm working after I get home, or not and getting behind.  Making fresh food more often than I had because I had been making frozen veggies and turkey mix.  She loves the fresh veggies, just more work.  This is very STRESSFUL.  Chuck, Lucy's dad is taking on the travel this week, I have a crazy work week, gonna be gone 2 days.  I know he has this, just wish I wasn't such a worry wart.

We're all enjoying the weekend!!

Hi Mary! Yes you can definitely embed images here once they are uploaded to Facebook. If you are on a laptop, right click on th eimage you want to share and choose "Copy Image URL", then return here and click the photo icon box in your forum post editing toolbar. Paste the photo URL there and it should appear. Make sense? If you need more help I will try when I return to my laptop, I'm in the car right ow.

Glad to hear things are good for Lucy overall. As far as I understand anemia can fluctuate but there are definitely foods you can cook for her that will help. Dr. Judy Morgan's cookbook we mentioned last week has a few recipes for anemia I believe. She will be on our Tripawd Talk Radio show next week, so you can ask her yourself if you'd like. Stay tuned for our official announcement. Here's a link to the book:

More later.
