Hi,

Our golden retriever is 13wks post op and is doing great. After the op he had 4 chemo sessions where he was knocked out and drugs given. My wife had him back at the specialist today for what we thought was a final consult as his xrays were clear. However he's now on more chem drugs, alkeran, lansoprazole, chlorambucil, prendnisolone and medrone. She was a bit over whelmed and ddin't take on as to why and for how long these drugs are taken for, is it months or life.

Any help would be much appreciated.

PS i have asked vet to advise but I'm worried.

Thanks

Alastair

Hi Alastair and family, welcome. Your future posts won't need approval so post away.

What is your Golden's name? Glad to hear he's doing well. It sounds like you are working with an oncology team, which is great and it sounds like they're very comprehensive. What is your dog's diagnosis? The quantity and type of chemo drugs all depends on the diagnosis, stage and of course your dog's physical needs and/or limitations as well, so it's hard to offer any insight here without knowing what kind of cancer he has.

Try not to worry, but do know that anytime you have questions at all, ask your vets. After all, that's why you pay them. I know that when one person goes to the clinic it's overwhelming so if there's any way you both can go along, that way one can ask questions and the other one take note, it will really put your mind at ease when you walk out of there.
