Hi Joelle, welcome! As a guest and non-resgistered member your posts will need to be approved each time but if you decide to register (we hope so!) your future posts won't need approval and no worries, your email address won't show up either.

We are SO thrilled you'll be adopting Remington! Congratulations! We will keep our fingers and paws crossed that everything works out well and he is home in your care in no time at all. We have other members in the Atlanta area too...I sense a Tripawd pawrty happening soon!

OK so here aremy two recommendations for learning about life on three legs. Well, three; 1) post in our "Beyond Cancer" Discussion Forum where more people will see your story and get to help you a answer all of your questions. Next, check out Jerry's Required Reading List , and also our Tripawds Conditoning book, "Loving Life On Three Legs ." It will help if you have some basic things in your house when he arrives, like throw rugs for traction on any slipppery surfaces, baby gates that will keep him from places he shouldn't be and a firm mattress to rest on.

There's lots to learn but don't let it overwhelm you; lots of this journey is learn as you go; You'll need to learn what Remington's needs are,and like you said, just go slow and take it from there.

Thanks again for posting, we are so excited to meet you!

Hi!!!! And thank you for the welcome!

I did sign up for an account, WaanJaiAndMommy, but may have done something wrong as I wasn't able to sign in.

I am not exactly sure of when his arrival date is yet, but it is supposed to be at the end of October. He will be flying with a flight volunteer as well as another doggie, so he won't be alone for his travels, which I am so thankful for. The thought of him being so young, and flying alone for so many hours had me anxious and I was relieved to learn that Soi Dog had been able to make these arrangements for him.

LOL, I definitely feel like a nervous new parent, even though I already have 2 other dogs, also both rescues, he is a new baby for our house so I have already been doing lots of doggie present shopping.

I have chosen the name Waan Jai for him, (Sweetheart in Thai, I figured it would be an easy name for others to pronounce and it literally speaks of what he will be to me..... my sweetheart) he is 5 months old, and he is also missing his tail. I know with cats that alot of their balance comes from their tail, is this also true for dogs?

Thank you so much on the tips of different information to read. I really want to do right by him and I realize that with him being a tripod, I have a lot to learn..... and it is a little scary/overwhelming, but I know we will be fine. From the moment I saw him, I thought he was adorable, and I wanted him, but I did want Soi Dog to make sure we were the right family for him - I have kids, other pets, and wanted a dog that I could have with me as my constant companion, not just at home, but when I am at work as well, so when they told me they thought we would be a good fit, I was so happy, I cried with joy. And then I realized I have a lot to learn. Which is why I am here.

I am going to read the recommended reading that you gave me, and if anyone has any more tips or knowledge to share, I am very open to learning everything I can.

Again, thank you so much for the warm welcome and we will keep you updated on his journey :)

Waan Jai (aka Remington) and Mommy.

Gosh! Just opened Christy's (Soi dog) email saying the adoption was official...and BAM..check on the site and here you are!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH!!!!

Yeah, that little fella' just melts my heart. Clearly he has found his loving forever home! And Sadie must have made this happen ! Good job Sadie!

I gave her all the tripawd links and was soooooo hoping whoever the lucky human was would join the community! As you've already seen, there is a wealth of information here! Lo o ks like you've done your homework! 'Would also remind you going UP stairs can be hard for rear leg amps.....going DOWN stairs can be hard for front leg amps.

Soooo excited for you! Thank you so much for being willing to share Waan Jai with us. I must confess, I was trying to figure out a way I could make this work, butmit just was not feasible for me at all. Also, my Merry Myrtle, a nine month old Bull Mastiff puppy, would be a little TOO much of a playmate! She mistakes my arm as a chew toy sometimes.

Do you have another dog?

Again, thank you for doing what it takes to bring Sweetheart into such a loving h ome!!! PLEASE, PLEASE take video and pictures! I know this will be a little unsettling for him at first...but such a small price so that he can find out what love feels like!

Love and hugs to all :-)

Sally and My Eternal Light Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Just wanted to add, we have a lot of Rottie tripawds here (unfortunately), and they just have stub tails! No problem at all for them!! I'm sure Waan Jai has already adjusted to walking just fine. If he has been kept in a kennel cage most of the time, he will have to slowly build up his muscles and core strength.

I'm just sooooo happy for you both! Meant to be!!

Hi everyone!!! I apologize for the delay in response, have been in the middle of a very large, chaos filled move, and getting ready for Waan Jai's arrival.....drum roll please......in less than 41 hours! :)

I've been reading everything humanly possible about tri-pods and building their core and how to tri-pod safe the house. I've picked up a set of carpeted stairs to help him get up into bed with me, harnesses, collars, leashes, every kind of toy and treat possible, oh my gosh, and everything else under the sun. :) Although the stores I went to were out of elevated bowls, so I'm going to try to find a Wal-Mart tomorrow in hopes they will have one.

I've prepared the best I could, even managed to find a vet here in Atlanta that does house calls AND she herself has a tri-pod, which was important to me as she has real life knowledge of what it's like for a tri-pod, compared to a vet who doesn't.

I've set him up for a date with the groomers, who I interviewed first, as well as a day at a doggie day camp, once he's comfortable with us.

I think when I set up an account here, I screwed up the email account, so I've set up a new email, as well as his own Facebook page if you'd like to befriend him and follow his new journey. Its Waan Jai Remington or WaanJaiAndMommy@Gmail.com

Again, thank you so much for the warm welcome and tips, they've been very much appreciated!
Warmest regards,
Waan Jai and Mommy

I'm just all smiles over here!!  I'm so happy for Waan Jai and that he's going to be in his forever home very soon.big-grinbig-grinbig-grin

It sounds like you're as prepared as you can be for Waan Jai's arrival.  Please keep us posted on how the little fella is doing.  And pictures....lots and lots of pictures...we love those around here!!  Also, the blog idea Jerry mentioned is good because Waan Jai definitely has a story to tell.

I'm so happy for both you and Waan Jai!!  His journey to a better life is ready to begin.
