After our recent database maintenance to improve performance of the Tripawds network, we noticed a clear improvement is site load rimes and responsiveness... for a bout a week.
Over the past 72 hours or so we have experienced server load spikes caused by rogue activity scanning our databases for vulnerability. This has cause MySQL and other resources to be taxed, causing random and frequent periods with loss of connectivity.
We are doing our best to regain control and thank you for your patience. We have had to take some extreme measures, but we're not out of the woods yet. With many of the attacks originating from IP addresses in the Far East, we have been forced to block access to our server from certain country regions including China, Russia, Lithuania, and Sri Lanka. We have also implemented an additional firewall, and caching – the results of which on these forums are still yet to be determined. (Hence this test post.) Please note that we are spending lots of time and incurring expenses to resolve these issues. We will do whatever it takes!
Bear with us as we continue to bring this issue under control. Please note that if the site is slow or you have trouble loading any page, the best thing you can do to help us is close any Tripawds pages you may have open, and wait at least ten minutes before checking back in.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. The work we are doing (and having done) would not be possible without your support!

We may have address the rogue database scanning activity but server load spikes continue. We have taken additional steps to limit the number of connections per ip address and shorten the timeout period.
Please report any unexpected anomalies. The next step may be a costly hardware upgrade to better handle the increased traffic and forum activity.
Please stand by.

Oh trust me, after this is all over we will take over the UNIVERSE and send the evildoers who are attacking our servers into a black hole!
What Admin was trying to say in English, is that we are getting pummelled by hacker attempts to take over our server. It's nothing personal, they just want to use it to send out evil spam and viruses and such. Thankfully Admin and our Uber Geeks have implemented strong security measures which are working to prevent a network takeover, but it means our we are getting overloaded and causing "Failure to connect" errors for everyone. These aren't technically site crashes.
Until this is resolved we will be online and offline over and over again. I am very, very sorry for all of the trouble this is causing everyone, I am just sick and in tears over this. I know Admin and the Uber Geeks will figure this out, but when we just can't say for sure. I'm trying to breathe.
Thank you for hanging in there everyone.

Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog
Thank you all!
UPDATE: We ave just upgraded our server with additional RAM at an added monthly expense, and are already noticing better stability during load spikes which continue to occur.
We will be undertaking additional steps to help resolve this underlying issue. In the mean time, the site is no longer being crippled by this rogue activity, though users may notice slower performance at time. If this is the case, the best step to help us all is to exit the site and try again later.
Again, thank you!
