Use the quote button directly above the post you want to reply to – like I have done here. Edit the previous users post to identify any specific comments you wish to address so the entire post is not duplicated, like this…

there is of course also the private message ( send pm) button you can use if you would like to comment on an individual post privately.

Yes, you can access the PM system from your "inbox" button at the top of forum every page, if you wish to keep your reply private. Just click compose and enter the members username.

As for how to add an avatar picture… I am not too sure if this will work, but I'll give it a try. Sign in. Go to Profile. Click on the brown box in the middle that says NOTE: and something about going to "your tripawds user dashboard"….
I just did it and this is the URL, but not sure if the link will work directly. Hope this helps!
