For the last couple of days, Gracie seems to choke on food. Except pepperoni or something chunky like chicken. But canned dog food she chokes on. Tonight I decided to make her some beef and rice because I felt like she needed something healthy. I was upstairs for about 24 minutes and when I came back down there was a puddle of blood and splatter all over the wall and floor. I checked her all over and there is not one drop of blood on her. So I texted her vet and sent him pictures and he thinks she sneezed that blood out. It is a LOT of blood. And of course he is out of state. So he said to watch her and take her to her surgeon vet tomorrow morning first thing because she acts fine. About an hour later she started struggling to breathe. So emergency vet here I come...I am a mess! Please if you pray, pray for my baby.

We are not physically presee with you, but with you in positive heale energy.

Could be a broken blood vessel in ner nose when she sneezed. she coukd have some fluid in her lungs making breathing difficult from maybe a respiratory infection.

Theyu figure it out a d get her settled.

Check in when you can

We're sending love and hoping this gets resolved quickly without a hospital stay.

Well we had a very long night. Tons of tests and scans later and we got home around noon today. I was exhausted but had to work so just got home again to update... We all know Gracie is an older dog...so they ruled out a lot of things including a tumor, damaged trachea, lung puncture or anything that could have been missed with the accident. The choking and breathing problems were the main concerns. And ultimately, we have no real answers...except she is an old dog and her body doesn't function like it use to. She continues to struggle with swallowing and has some inflammation in her throat but nothing concerning. They changed her food to a consistency she might can handle better. She was acting completely normal just a couple hours after being there.  The blood was a mystery! But he was going to release her for me to monitor and see if there was another incident. And as the vet, who we have all grown to love, reached down to pet her and tell her bye, she started wagging her tail and when it hit against the table, blood slung everywhere! Mystery solved! We all had some good laughs too! She has wagged her tail so much lately because she is just a happy girl! And apparently she has hit it against something and caused it to bust open. Now keep in mind, Gracie is completely shaved and is used to having tons of hair and cushion back there...So her tail is a little more sensitive to stuff. She is all bandaged up and just wags the bandage at you now. I've been with her since I got home. She's had no more breathing incidents and was able to eat some pork roast for dinner and had a cheeseburger for lunch. So I will just watch her for now and hope that this too shall pass! She army crawled about 8 feet to go outside with my husband when he got home. He said he sat her in the grass and she was outside for about an hour and happy as could be!

Thank you all for the kind words and thoughts. I know you were with me today.

Also just to answer some questions- the vet is one hour away. I live in a very rural part of the state, even Walmart is an hour away! I have called and checked with all the cerftified rehabilitation places. Definitely weighing a lot of options with these. All of them are 2-3 hours away and expect that she will need to come 2-3 times each week. I'm not sure that I can swing that between work, kids and life. I did schedule a consultation this Saturday at 1:30...but then I found out that the vet who called me is only going to be at this location for 2.5 more weeks and they do not have a water treadmill...which she will probably need. Another one can't get me in for 2 weeks. My vet thinks I am overreacting and that she may not be ready for rehabilitation...to give her time! Her mobility improves daily...and she will get up!

Time for couch cuddles and bandage wagging. Thank you all again!

Okay...Ive read the whole thing now!!!!

EMMA GRACE GRACIES, YOU ARE A MIRACLE DOG!!! Younhad me soooo scared the other night. And then when we didn't hear from your Mom....ugh! Don't even want to think about it!! It didn't occur to me that she was spending the night with you and you two didn't get home til today!!

To know she was so thoroughly checked out and everything is okay..WOW!!!

Does she eat lying down? That could maybe cause the food to not go down very well and maybe that irritates her throat..larynx..esophagus...etc. May even irritate things enough that it interferes with her breathing..maybe??? Just throwing stuff out there!!

GRACIE ARMY CRAWLED ABPUT EIGHT FEET!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 Heck, for a 25 yr old tripawd dog recovering from MAJOR surgery, isn't that the equivalent of 80 feet!!??

Your Vet may have a good point abput being more patient abput whether to start Rehab or not quite uet.

Also...and JERRY can give you more info, but I think DR DEBBIE GROSSMAN (?) Does over the phone consults..........AND the Tripawd Foundation provides some financial support.

Soooo glad you are back on the couch snuggling with GRACIE, THE MIRACLE DOG!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

LOTS OF LOVE AND TONS OF YAAAAAAAAAY!!!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Emma Grace, you had us at the get go!!! You know exactly what to do to keep us all on the edge and yet, and yet, and yet, YOU ARE COMPLETELY PERFECT and fine!!!!!!!! That is the bestest of bestest of the bestest news!!!!!!! You go, Gracie!!!!

Now Heffalump and you could have been in the races together. He was so fast that he would disappear down corridors at the Vet School and they would have to go looking for him! But Gracie could give him a run for the money!

So dang happy to hear she is doing well and went outside to soak in the sun. That is fantastic! She has a winning attitude which must be so infectious. As far as that tail wag, keep it up Gracie! We loooove the wags! And I bet she winds it up to propel herself forward. What a champ!

And as for rehab, I kinda agree with your vet. It was all a bit too much for Heffalump. I say wait until full recovery and then maybe consider it. Really, Gracie will find her way in her own time on her own path. Heffalump did and lived a remarkable life as a TWOPawd. Which obviously required even more treats than a TRIPawd. (And, we, too are in a very rural area so just getting somewhere is half the problem.)

Gracie!!!! We just adore you!!! So happy to hear you are home. Hugs and PyrPaws all around!!!

You know you guys are awesome!

And right! Gracie will get up and if she don't, we will make it as a twopawd! I am not going to push the rehab! If her attitude changes or she seems unhappy, then I will look into things but she's got this! She definitely has me wrapped around her little paw. I finally convinced her "big" little brother to come visit (Baker, my 11 year old black lab rescue)- he's doing a great job ignoring her but she loves that he is here.

I am exhausted. Been awake for about 40 hours so I am going to leave these two to enjoy each other's company and try to get some sleep.
