Day 10- Quinn's still at vets but doing well. He could have came home yesterday but the brat broke out of his e-collar and pulled out one of his drainage tubes. The vet was able to get it back in with just a local anesthetic. However he now wants him to stay until Monday or Tuesday. He is doing very well, just being Quinn. I feel sorry for the vet now, he said Quinn completely stressed him out yesterday and that he is too smart for his own good. LOL. I tried warning all of them. Quinn can get out of everything and break in to anything. This is a dog that sits in a chair at the table and expects a cup of coffee every morning, loves water but will not get out of tub unless there is a towel put down for him, will not walk on wet grass, he's pretty much royalty and very spoiled. If he doesn't want to do something he will throw himself down (dead weight) and move his front legs and head up and down and will not get up. If Animal Planets on he will back himself up to couch put his butt on couch while front legs on floor and watch TV for hours. He hasn't stopped barking so I know that is driving them nuts, the only time he is quiet is when I go to visit. Hopefully he can come home tomorrow. Everyone tells me that I'm the only one that he listens too, if I call him he will come, if I give him a command he will do it, but with most other people he will just look at them and stay laying down. lol I try telling everyone how stubborn he is and they have to be a strong pack leader with him but I think his size intimidates them. He knows he can't be that way with me. I think he's perfect. I will be going to visit him in a few hours, taking him some turkey. Thanks all for helping us get through this, it's been quite the adventure, I can't express enough how grateful I am.

I'm so glad that Quinn is on the mend and giving the vet all he can handle- his spirit will pull him through this!

My Tri-pug Maggie was obstinate as pugs tend to be, and she was more so after her amp.  She was more vocal and less obedient sometimes- when I called her across a room she deffinilty weighted the pros and cons before moving! She never tried Quinn's passive resistance though.  In her case resistance would have been futile as she weighed only about 17 pounds.

My quad-pug Tani is a small version of Quinn! She is 15 pounds and stubborn as they come. She has mellowed now that she is 14.5 but it still took the vet techs 30 min to do a simple blood draw on Friday! And the barking....

Can't wait to see him home again.

Mighty Quinn!

Oh my, Quinn is a pisser! I love the spirited ones. So happy he is doing well.  I remember when Jake had to be in-patient- vet techs usually looked haggard as he wouldn't stop whining and whistling until he saw us.  Keep the posting.

Day 12 We brought Quinn home last night. He has drainage tubes but the area looks really good now, all the bruising is gone. He was a little drugged up but he did walk some with his harness. The vet was worried because he wasn't eating, but I told him Quinn wouldn't eat the kibble and the night before when I had visited he ate a lot of turkey and drank two bowls of water. He was so happy to leave he sat right up when he seen me this time, like he knew he was getting out of there. We got him in and set him up in his cage and he seemed very relaxed. I cleaned him up, gave him more turkey and water and was good. He slept thru the night, but keeps wanting to lay on surgery side. So every hour I was turning him back over. Gave him his meds this morning, got home around 12pm. I gave him his food and water and now he is relaxing. Just got to take him out now. That's the part I'm afraid of, I'm afraid I'm going to hurt him, or there will be to much pressure. He does help but tires quickly, he hasn't had any type of movement for five days at the vets. Later this afternoon when all is calm I'm going to get him out of his cage, massage him and move his legs around. I know he is sore from laying so much.

That is SO pawesome he's home! YAAAY!

Oh my gosh I am cracking up at what a smart boy he is, he's truly his own dog and very impressive. Sure sounds like he's got a lot of smarts, obviously inherited from his pawrents :)

You are doing GREAT and if you were hurting him at all you would know, I'm certain he would tell you. The harness you got is very, very gentle on surgery sites so don't be afraid of bothering the incision. Your massage and range of motion exercises will definitely help.

Keep up the fabulous attitude and know that in about 2 weeks you will wonder why you were ever so nervous. You are both doing GREAT!

Day 14- Quinn is stir crazy. Drainage tubes still in they will come out next week. Drainage has slowed down drastically. Incision site looks good. We took Quinn out and all went well. However I'm drained, have my alarm set for all Quinn's flushing times, antibiotic ointment, meds, outside, feeding, and cleaning him and cage out times. I told him yesterday that if he didn't settle down I was going to knock him out. LOL wouldn't really do that, but felt like it. Just when I think I can relax and sit for a few minutes he is up and barking. I will be so glad when the tubes are out and we can take e-collar off him. He absolutely hates it. I take it off for a while everyday while I'm sitting with him and he relaxes better when it's off.

On top of all this our ferret Sid is sick, not eating or drinking well. Sid showed up on our porch in 2009, a few days after we moved into our house. I'm not exactly sure how old he is, but he seemed to be around two or three when we found him on porch. So he has to be around nine or ten. I have also set my alarm to feed and water him. But I don't think my Siddy is going to be here much longer. crying

Yesterday I just went into bathroom sat on the floor and cried. Pushed myself to get up and put my happy face on for Quinn. We will get through this, just hurts to see loved ones go through this, but I will take care of both them the best I can.

So sorry about your sweet little ferret, those little creatures are so amusing....I have a friend that has been rescuing them for many years and she ALWAYS has a least 5-6 of them in her care permanently.

I also know your emotion and how this situation can get you down, believe me.....we all have our big ups, and huge downs dealing with multiple difficulties within our homes, family, and pets, but you are doing a great job so far. Sitting down and having a good cry is truly the best medicine sometimes, after that, we somehow get ourselves together, stand back up and start the fight once again.....it gets really hard sometimes, but then we realize we are stronger than we think.

Super Quinn is doing great and right now, that is the best news possible ......as Sally will tell you, take deep breaths and you will get through this. We are all here to get you through, and keep you upright.....we have all definitely "been there and done that". Hoping your little Sid gets better as well, maybe just not feeling too good right now but will bounce back in a day or so.

{{{Hugs}}} to you, and sending positive thoughts your way....we are here, and you can vent as much as possible.

You are doing great!  Amputation surgery is a huge deal, and Quinn added a little with an extra trip to the vet. You are worried about him and sleep deprived and now worried about little Sid. Letting go of some of that emotion is exactly the right thing to do. And of course you can come her and vent anytime.

Quinn sounds like he is doing well now- a huge positive. When those tubes come out and the collar comes off it will be such a happy day!  Hang in there, you are almost through this.

I'm thrilled to hear he's doing better. You've both been on my heart and mind. Please, please, keep those great updates coming!

And don't let those emotional bumps in the road get you down. You wouldn't be human if you didn't need to crash from time-to-time. It just shows how much heart you have. <3

Hello everyone its been a week since I last posted. Quinn is doing great!! It's day 22 today. He got his drainage tubes out last Tuesday and will getting stitches out 12/16/14. My little guy Sid (ferret) is a little better not much. I have been feeding him by hand and he has gained some weight back, however I think age in this case is going to win.crying

Quinn and I are using the harness a lot better. At first I was using a lot of muscle and it was wearing me out. I have since learned I do not need to do that and have been letting him bear most of weight which he is, in fact when we went to vet he was pulling me around. He is not standing on his own yet. We have to pull him up with harness, but once up he is bearing his own weight for awhile. I feel that once he is healed a 100% he will eventually put more effort into standing on his own. I'm a little afraid right now to let go of harness, but once stitches are out and wounds from tubes are all healed will help ease those fears and I will push him more.

I would like to thank you all again for all the support you have given us. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. This has been quite an adventure. I couldn't have got through this with out the help and advice I have received from all of you. I have learned quite a bit and have passed that info. onto the vet and the techs that have been taking care of Quinn, they were very pleased and said that it would help them in the future to help other paw parents get through this.

THANK YOU!!!
