My lab, Molly, had her right front limb amputated 4 weeks ago due to osteosarcoma. She has adapted very well. For the first two weeks I confined her to a small area with interlocking gym mat and a comforter to lay on. Now that she is healed she prefers to lay on the cooler hardwood and tile floors. She's had patches on both elbows for years but the one on the remaining leg has gotten larger and she's been licking at it more since the amputation. I was going to put down the comforter for her to lay on but I suspect that she will push it out of the way. Is there anything that I can put on it to soothe it. I was going to try Vasoline. I thought about wrapping it but I don't think that's a good long term solution.

Thanks!

Hey here, welcome! Your future posts won't need approval so post away!

I'm glad to hear Molly has adapted so well besides the hygroma issue, which is very common in Tripawds. Has your vet taken a look at it in the past? What did they recommend? I'm not a vet but I can say with confidence that Vaseline probably is not a good idea. I believe it would probably block air from helping it dry out and heal. There are better ways to help it get there.

Here is a list of blog posts that may give you some ideas:
