how soon should I expect to see some improvement, if there will be any?

The vet confirmed my fears when she told me not to amputate Ti's leg.  We have opted for radiation and zoledronate. He had his first radiation Tuesday and dose of zoledronate and was limping horribly Wednesday.  He had another radiation today.  Seems to be having a harder time than ever getting  up.  I'm hoping maybe he is just recovering from all of the hubbub and being put under twice in three days.

He won't have another radiation for a week.  I've read stuff that says I should see improvement pretty quickly and I am feeling discouraged that I am not.

I just want him to be his old self for a little while...

Im not a vet..I just had a giant breed dog that we chose not to amp either. we didnt however do radiation, just the zolendrate and chemo..so not sure how fast you should see improvement..but if he seems to be limping more, I would put a call in to your doc, just in case of a fracture. My guy went a while without fracturing, but even when he did, suprisingly it wasnt as obvious as I thought it would be..he just seemed to be moving slower. It wasnt the big event many people tend to have. He was even putting weight on it. When we were going through this, I might have called my doc daily. I normally hate to bother people..but I would just to be safe..

hang in there!!!! BIG hugs..I hope he starts perking up soon!!

Agreed Lori, that's exactly what I would recommend too.Thank you so much for chiming in.

Never hesitate to call your vet  or the ER any time of day, especially when doing palliative care.  The treatment he's getting should definitely help with pain relief.

I hope he feels better quickly. Keep us posted OK?

Awww Ti It does sound like all the activity and sedation of he tretments could indeed make him feel pretty lousy. Being sedated twice in three days for such a big dog could be hard to shake off.

Not sure lf the side effects of the zolendrate, but that could be an issue too.

Did the vet who did the radiation mention noticing the limp? They probably manipulated his leg to do the radiation and that could cause it to hurt too.

As Lpri said, do not hesitate to call the vet and let them know what's going on and see if this needs to be addressed so you can get some piece of mind

We're pulling for you Ti...CHEERING for you!!!

We LOVE Ti!!

Dr. M. will chime in soon. But again, don t hesitate to call them so you can get some reassurance.

Hugs!

Thank you!!

I don't think that he broke it, I heard him scream when he banged it on the floor weeks ago (before they even x-rayed) so I am sure that he would be making some kind of noise.

We did talk about the possibility of their manipulations causing him to be so sore, and also being anesthetized so often, hopefully that is all it is.  I was gone a lot today and he does seem to be better then this morning.  Maybe it's just that his meds have kicked in fully... He was having some gaps in deramaxx due to not being able to eat before radiation.

Thank you all for all of your help!

We went to the pet supply store yesterday and picked out LOTS of treats.  He was breathing hard by the time we left (we were not there long) but I know he enjoyed sniffing around.  He even helped himself to the fastest 8.99 i ever spent, lol.

I am sorry but I do not have any experience with radiation for OSA.  I would definitely see what the oncologist has to say.
