sad I am going to miss it. I have to have my other knee replaced on May 11th. Even though it is the left one, I don't think I will be up to the long drive. It was scheduled for August, but it has not liked rehabbing the other one at all. I am pretty much crawling to the bathroom in the AM and limping the rest of day. This sounded like such a great time with so many people coming. I am so bummed that I won't be there. Please, please post lots of pictures. Lori, Ty and gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.

Sally, yes, I am going to the same surgeon. He is really good. I got my right knee done knowing the left was to follow. I was going to put it off until the end of summer. Then, once I came off the pain meds from surgery, dang it hurt terribly. The one I had done feels good. I knew my summer would be more miserable limping on that knee than recovering from surgery. Yeah, maybe someone close will go just for the day. You never know. May be a great diversion. I can FaceTime with someone if not, just at least to say hi to all. ❤️Lori, Ty and gang

And Karma, as far as BARKY....can't wait for Maggie to meet SHRILL HOWLING NON STOP DISCUSSING EVERYTHING FRANKIE!!

I don't visit the forums often, but was reading through this thread to catch up ...  and lol ... we can't wait to meet you guys either.  She is a talker, that is for sure.  And it used to be Aissa, but now she's deaf and too tired to bark.  There are nights that I'm "that mom" that is just doing my thing as she is in the other room barking her head off for an hour.  Then I finally say enough is enough and the water bottle has to come out.  Should be a hoot.

Ok, I am all caught up reading what everyone has been posting.  Lots of laughing.

For the German, "Ich kann nicht warten!"

I'll be bringing the crew.  I am hoping Aissa makes it to the pawty.  She has been really slowing down.  Can't hear, can't see, can't go up the stairs.  If she does hang in there, her 15th birthday is June 1.  Of course my three-legged crazy Adelaide can't wait to jump around everyone and her big baby sister Maggie May will be trying to give everyone hugs (with me yelling stay down).  And I'm bringing Brendol's picture for the angel table.  The one I'm bringing is quite large.  But it's metal and so it's the one that I feel safest bringing and I'm driving so I am not worried about packing it.  I typically don't plan out my packing list until a day or two prior to a trip, but I am already planning for this one.  Marshmallows, pet gates, tie outs, picture, etc. 😀

Of course, Clare! Jasper LOVES to cuddle basically any other than her mama! 🙂

So for those that live out that way ... (Lori, Sally, Bonnie, Elizabeth)... do any of you have a local vet that I can call? My vet suggested I call a local vet to inquire about getting Jasper on heartworm meds for her trip out east. We don't use them living here in LA but when I lived in the south (new orleans), Shelby was on heartworm meds. Especially since it looks like there might be forests near where we are staying (aka ticks!!!).

I am terrified of ticks, getting a tick, having my dog get a tick ... you know. I love nature but I don't love bugs and I want to make sure Jasper is safe.

So can anyone give me a vet to call and inquire if they think we should do it for a short trip out that way? Thank you!

Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Alison,

You guys don't use heartworm meds in Cali?   I thought all the states did.  You can get Frontline from your vet for fleas & ticks or I use essential oils for that. (not that I am sure the TSA would allow me to bring them) .  I am bringing my tick key so you will have access to that too.  Also might bring a lint roller which is good to roll over you & the dogs to get the little ones before they stick.

Can't wait to meet you Clare.  This is going to be so much fun

Alison,

Feel free to call my vet.  We are in the heartworm belt.  He is not Mr. personality, but he's knowledgeable and just tell them I suggested to call them - I have 6 animals going there, I think they can answer a question for you.  They'll probably recommend just 1 heartguard tablet for the trip and just tick checking if you are out in the woods.  But if you are super paranoid about ticks, you could get a flea and tick topical at the pet store, like K9 Advantix II.  My girls are all on trifexis which takes care of the heartworm, fleas, and other parasites. They aren't on any tick preventative.

My vet is Dr. Grubbs at Lawrenceville Animal Care Center,

Hours:  Open today · 6AM–6PM
You can even just tell them you are coming to Georgia and wondering.  We have the same critters.

Thank you Karma!!! I am going to check and see what flea meds Jasper is currently on so I can have a better idea of what I might be asking.  I am pretty sure her flea pill is just for fleas and not anything else. Our vet isn't Mr. Personality either but I figure calling the south is better than calling the west so I am sure it will be a lovely chat! 🙂 Our vet is happy to prescribe anything for us once we have a better idea if we even need a preventative.

And no, Michelle, we don't need heartworm meds out here ... not sure why but our vet told us we don't. Now I am paranoid that perhaps I do! LOL

You know I am going to be a manic tick-checker of me, the dog, anyone else in the room!

We never used heartworm meds in California, either, and not until the last three or four years or so here in Idaho. However, my daughter in northern California does give her Rott heartworm meds. Apparently the little buggers are migrating. Ollie gets his Sentinel once a month, too.

As much as I would love to be there, I just don't see it happening. Please somebody figure out the Facetime thing, and I'll be happy to attend from here!

Kathi and the Turbotail April Angel...and the Labradork

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
