Hello Tripawders!

Be warned....I'm back in Los Angeles and ready to pawty with YOU! Will you be there?

20120915w_vickers02.jpgImage Enlarger

We would like to have a pawty on Monday, 2/18, which is President's Day, so we're hoping all of you can make it.

Now I know Southern California is a big place and we have members from Riverside to San Diego, so where do you think is a good halfway place to meet up? Not being from these parts I'm not real sure where to go, so any and all ideas are welcome.

Come on, let's get this pawty started and chime in with your thoughts here!

My mom has never been to this dog park and it really isn't all that centrally located to San Diego Tripawds...but might be an option...http://www.prad.....doDam.html

That looks like a cool park, although kinda far for us.

Don't know about any dog parks outside of the SD area. Hopefully those that live more centrally will know of some places.

Not totally sure Rita and I will be able to make it. Mondays are my volunteer days at the shelter and usually on the holidays there are at least a few volunteers that try to take the day off. Don't want to leave them without anyone (there were only 2 of us yesterday for MLK Day) so need to see if others are already planning to be there or not. Will know more when it gets closer.

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. You betcha Hannah! Will you marry me?

I think that park looks like the perfect place for a ceremony. But let's see what others think.

Rita, tell your Momma that she can just bring all of the shelter dawgs to the pawty. That solves that. You HAVE to be there, you're gonna be Hannah's maiden of honor!

Woo Hoo I am going to married soon! My mom says I have grown up enough in the last few months to know the responsibilities of being married!

I have never been to a dog park so the links my mom is sharing she really doesn't know anything about them...but keeping in mind the San Diego Tripawders...here is a park in Temecula...

Let me know. I will think on this.

Wooo hoo! Louie we would love to meet you and see you in your wheels!

It looks like the location might be leaning toward the Riverside / northern O.C. area. What do you guys think?

The Temecula park has a couple of drawbacks.  First, it's a small park - not much more than a fenced in area of patchy grass and a few trees.  A far distance to travel for very little in the way of a dog park.  Second, it's in Temecula - a location very difficult to get to from Orange County and Los Angeles (don't know about San Diego).  If we're just going for an average dog park, there are any number of them more centrally located.

As for the Prado Dog Park, I like the way it looks in the photos, but never having been there, I have a few concerns.  The info I've found online says that it's partially fenced in, with dirt roads running through it for people who are training their dogs to hunt.  Do people run around with shotguns or anything like that?  Linda doesn't do well with loud gunshot-like noises.  I know that the general area has firearms training - my department sent me to a nearby range for rifle training several years ago.  Don't know if that's the same exact area, but I definitely don't want gunshots in the vicinity of my dogs.  Has anyone reading this thread ever been there?  I don't want to cast a "no" vote for this park yet, but the online info has given me some definite reservations.

I'll put forward another option that might be more easily accessible - the Laguna Beach Dog Park (http://www.lagu.....ogpark.com).  It's centrally located in Orange County, off the 5 freeway in Laguna Canyon.  Park on the street and cross a bridge to a fully enclosed park with grass, trees, a big dirt pile at the base of a large hill, and as a nice touch, the fence runs part way up the hill so dogs can chase each other around on the slope.

Just some thoughts - we'll definitely attend, wherever it may be.

Haha, sounds like you gotta do quite the serious recon for Bernie Bin Laden!

No worries. Gunshots suck. We can nix that one..

The Laguna Beach one sounds sweeeeeet. How does Louie and Hannah feel about driving out there?

Am I the only one (potentially) coming from SD? Hate to have you pick a place central w/ SD in the mix, and then I might not be able to make it. If I'm the only one, go ahead and pick something that works better for folks further north.

Hopefully I can make it, but like I said, I won't know for a bit.

AngelAbbysMom - if you are anywhere near the 5 freeway the trip north on the 5 to Laguna will most likely be just as centrally located as Riverside is to Laguna Beach and I know if Louie comes, he will be coming from Yucaipa which is even further east than Riverside.

I don't think that Rusty will be able to make the pawty; Laguna is 2 1/2+ hours each way from Palm Desert which would make for a very long day for us.  His health is fairly stable right now, but a trip like that could set him back as he tires very easy.  Also, his Fanconi syndrome requires frequent pit stops, and when you are on the freeways it is not always easy to find a good location.

Chuck & Rusty

PS, last Friday the 25th, marked his 3rd ampuversary!

Rusty is a Labradoodle who was diagnosed with level 3 Fibrosarcoma on January 16th, 2010 and had his left hind leg amputated on January 25th, 2010 five days before his 18 month birthday. Please see Rusty's blog @rusty.tripawds.com.  He is putting up one heck of a fight against this terrible disease.
