We always get the dogs we need, when we need them. They find us, not the other way around. Wally was your present from Benny for being such a great dad!

Thanks, and I hope my dog karma continues when I eventually get my next one. A little funny story. I spent a little bit of time looking at Petfinder last weekend (still feels too early, but it can't hurt to look) and was telling my mom about some of the dogs I saw including a bonded pair of Boxers. To which she said: "I don't think you'd want two of them." I replied with: "Yeah, I don't think I could handle two of them". But then I took it back a bit and said: "Well I think I could handle two Wallys no problem, but there's no way I could handle two Bennys." LOL.
Hahaha ...I like your response abput the two Benny's versus two Wallys.
Have you thought about maybe fostering these two Boxers... just on a trial basis of course?

Yep, nothing wrong with looking 😉 lol! We know how THAT goes.
And the idea of a pair of sibling Boxers is just so sweet! Had to say it. NO pressure!

Figured you guys would like the story, lol. All joking aside though, since it's just me I feel much more comfortable just sticking with one dog. I'm also thinking about going with something other than a Boxer this time. I obviously love the breed, but I'm thinking it would help to prevent unfair comparisons to Wally. Also, since I've lost two Boxers in a row to cancer I'm thinking maybe I should get a mix or a breed that's less prone to it.
Here are 2 local rescues I'm thinking about inquiring on:
Okay, I just fell in love with BOTH of them!! Their "close ups" had me break out into a great big smile😁 I love that you're wide open to any type rescue dog (doesn't have to be a boxer).
You are such a good Soul to be opening up your heart to a dog who needs your love and companionship♥️. I know something will "click" whenever you meet one of these dogs, or a different one. I KNOW Wally wants you to have another doggy in your life. He knows how much joy that will bring you and that will make him so happy...and Be my too! I think they both have a paw in this😉.
Keep us posted. okay? I have a "sense" a meet and greet may be in the works.... maybe.... maybe soon.... maybe.???
Hugs

Ohhhhh Howard wins my heart! What a story and that face! He sounds like he could need some extra TLC but I'll bet he will be a great dog to the right human (Hmm, wonder who THAT could be?!)
You shouldn't have had me click on Petfinder.... 😉

Hey guys. Thanks for the compliments and encouragement. There are a couple of breeds that I don't like: all little yappy breeds, pit bulls, and poodles mainly, but other than that if it's a good dog who cares what breed. Also, getting away from Boxers for now if kind of for me as well. My next dog will have huge paws to fill, and getting a different breed will help me to not unfairly compare them too much to Saint Wallace.
So I did inquire about both Howard and Jorge yesterday and submitted applications. Unfortunately Howard, who is at the same shelter I adopted Wally from, is currently unavailable. The volunteer who responded to me said that he's living with a trainer right now to help with some behavioral issues. I asked what kind of issues he was having and if he'd be available to meet anytime soon, so we'll see what they reply with. This shelter does introduce you to other dogs they think would be a good fit, so we'll see if any of those click or not.
On the other hand, Jorge is available and the volunteer at that rescue spoke really highly of him. If my application is approved (don't know why it wouldn't be) then guessing I'll be able to meet him sometime this week or next weekend. The only drawback with him (from what I know) is that he's a little older. Not that I mind having an older dog (I actually really enjoyed both Wally and Benny in the senior years), but realistically speaking he probably won't be around as long as a younger dog. Anyway, we'll see how it goes!
They sound like a good rescue. And I love that you are so open to different breed types! That opens the door to the most perfect dog for you right now. I can't wait to see who comes your way.

Got some head to toe happy chills going on over here. So excited to see the dog you NEED and the dog who NEEDS you might jist be one of these two.. You've started the process and the Universe. and Wally and Benny, will take it from here!.
The fact that you continue to show interest in " misbehaving Howard" and have also put in an application for Jorge, has got to impress them!!
FWIW, I went to a local rescue to adopt a "senior" so that the dog could have a good lpving home for the months, or maybe the year, she had left.
I came home with two "seniors"♥️♥️ They had the best life a dog could have...for another .five to six years!!! Gonna come back and post a pic of Bob and Nellie. So being in a loving hime could definitely extend the life of an "older" dog😎

Awww those sweet angels were so lucky to find their way to you Sally! All that lovin' gave them so much more time to enjoy life and teach you their important lessons.

Awww....thanks for sharing Sally. Bob and Nellie looked like good dogs and it was so awesome of you to adopt them. Jorge isn't ancient or anything. His profile says 7-8, so hopefully he has several good years left in him.
Howard sounds like a no go 🙁 A volunteer more familiar with him got back with me and said he was having trust issues and they're not sure how he is around other dogs, cats, and kids. On a daily basis it would just be he and I, but I do visit my mom fairly often and she has a small dog and cats. Chasing the cats is ok, but anything more than that is a problem. Also, my sister visits every so often with my nieces and nephew. So my dog doesn't have to love kids but does have to put up with them for a couple of days a couple of times a year. Anyway, if I don't find a dog that fits by then, maybe Howard could be a possibility down the road.
Oh what a bummer about Howard, but at least the rescue caught that before they adopted him out just now. Well, somewhere your perfect pup is headed your way!

Hey guys. So I got some disappointing news yesterday as Jorge's foster mom decided to pull a foster fail and keep him. I'm pretty bummed out about it b/c I was really starting to like the idea of bringing Jorge and his super cute squishy face home and pretty hopeful that it was going to work out. Although I can't get too upset b/c it sounds like his foster mom really loved him and he was in a great home already. I also found out yesterday that I was very surprisingly the first person to inquire about him since the shelter (Recycled Doggies) took him in last summer. Recycled Doggies had pretty much shut their doors in September, so I'm sure that and the pandemic had a lot to do with it. But still can't believe no one else asked about him. Anyway, I'm happy for him and his foster mom but pretty disappointed at the moment.
And so back to square one of my dog search .
