So Scooby gets his bandage taken off on Thursday - probably, which is awesome I had to leave work for a couple hours today for a quick check-up at the vets - when I get home to grab Scooby, I discovered he had gone poo for the first time since his surgery (which was great, just kind of wish it was a slightly different situation...). It was everywhere! He was in a confined space and had stepped on it and it looked like he had been fingerpainting haha. And I can definitely attest he's no longer having difficulty peeing! So there I am, scrubbing at the floor late morning, and finally get it all cleaned up - and him all cleaned up - so we can go to the vet's. When we get home, I can smell him passing gas like it's his job, but he tried to go to the washroom outside, and no luck. So this evening, I get home before Mark, and lo and behold - he's done it again! Can't get mad at him, he hasn't gone in the house since I first brought him home from the humane society 4 years ago, and he has had 4 days of food going in and nothing coming out, but come on - I have never before scrubbed a floor so thoroughly twice in the same week, let alone the same day! Haha!
YAAAAAAAAAY FOR POOPING AND PEEING!!!!!!!
And YAAAAAAAAAY for Scobby showing you his new talent as an artist...using poop as his preferred medium!!!
And YAAAAAAAAAY FOR YOU for finding humor and patience during all this!!! It really is a victory all the way around!
Really glad you found those stitches. Sometimes they can go undetected for awhile and cause irritation and infection!
Thanks for the great update...and smiles!!!!
Hugs!

Ohhhh I know what that's like, they can't control it, but oh boy cleaning it up isn't fun for the humans. Glad he went but be sure to tell your vet about the runny nature of it, just to make sure it's OK. Good luck tomorrow! That is a big milestone!

He got his bandage off today! And is sporting some fancy old t-shirts until the wound heals because apparently he's got a neck like a snake and can reach the ENTIRE suture area with his tongue, and he doesn't try to lick at it with the shirt on. He's going to the bathroom outside now, but we're still cleaning up when we get home from work, but while he's on the medication and still healing I'm anticipating it probably daily.
Unfortunately, it turns out he's got a bleeding ulcer in his stomach from being on the Metacam for so long (4 years) before the surgery, combined with the stress of surgery, etc. But we're managing it and it will heal which is great, and we won't ever have to worry about it again since he's off the metacam now - and won't have to go back on it since the injury disappeared with the leg I swear though, if I could figure out who the cowardly good-for-nothings were who owned, abused, and abandoned him, I'd be in a huge heap of trouble haha!
Our vet is surprised and so thrilled at just how WELL he's recovering physically - he's moving around really well and he's just SO happy. It warms my heart.
I'm so glad I found you all too - it's wonderful to be able to talk to people who've been through it before. We told our vet about the site too, so she can tell any future tripawd parents she meets!
THANK YOU ALL!!!

We can totally relate! Jerry had problems with Rimadyl but did well on Metacam for a long time. Please consider breed specific NSAID reactions.

We've taken him completely off the NSAIDs at this point. His pain is being managed with the Gabapentin and the Tramadol, and he has no sign of arthritis in his remaining joints at this point, thankfully. Now that we don't need to worry about that injured leg, we're in the clear on that. They have done blood tests to be sure, and his levels are all within normal which is great. He's on sulcrate and pepcid to keep his stomach coated while the ulcer heals, and then we'll do a fecal sample to ensure there is no remaining blood in his stool.
From this point on, I have a feeling everything is going to turn around for Scooby - life is coming up roses!
Glad the ulcer is under control. Yes indeed, things are fantastic! Scooby and you are back to lovin' life. Yay!
