Wendy that’s great news! You are doing a fantastic job managing her recovery.
Instead of taking the couch legs off and moving the mattress to the floor, what about trying to train her to use pet stairs?

It’s hard to believe it but it has already been two weeks since Rucca’s amputation. I plan to update her blog sometime this weekend but wanted to give a quick update here as well. She’s continued to do really, really well.
She had her incision check on Wednesday and was given the all clear to take off her sweater (although we’ve added a light shirt for sun protection until the fluff returns) and to resume normal activities. In the words of her doctor, “she can do whatever she wants to do.” She’s done well throughout but her natural silliness and shine is really starting to come out. She’s back to offering tricks for treats and has returned to rolling around on the floor seeking belly rubs.
She’s hopping around like a little champion and while we’ve been careful to keep her walks in the under ten minute range, her preferred pace is faster than we like to walk. She’s developed her own method of “heeling” - charging ahead until she gets to the end of the leash, stopping and waiting until I catch up and am back in heel position, and then bouncing off again.
In honor of her two week anniversary, we also let her have her favorite possession back today - her frisbee. We need to preserve her remaining front leg so her days of running out to catch it across the field are over but she was super happy to take a few easy tosses at the two foot range. She wanted more but we stopped at three.
We are being very careful to look out for the signs of a “tired Tripawd” but she seems to be pretty good at self-regulating so far. Her age probably helps with this because while she is still a complete nut, she’s reached the stage in life where she naturally sleeps a lot. She is scheduled for her first rehab evaluation Monday afternoon and we are looking forward to developing a good plan to keep her going strong.
Rucca is so darn cute!!
Yeah, tripawds need a faster pace to keep their balance and to keep their momentum smooth.
You are doing suchagood job of overseeingRucca's recovery in such a safe way.

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
That is an amazing update! Go Rucca! You are managing her recovery so well, Wendy. I'm so glad you have scheduled a rehab appointment for her. Griffin does the same thing (off leash) of running ahead and then waiting for me to catch up. Here's to some frisbee fun! ~ Stacy
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
Awww what a beauty! She looks like she's got all that Sheltie sparkle back and is brighter than ever
I'm so happy you guys are being super conscientious about her activity, and that you made an appointment for rehab. Great job!
One thing about self-regulating...we have an interview about that with rehab therapy guru Sasha Foster, you may find it interesting:

Hoppy Ampuversary Rucca! You are rockin' it!
