Well, it has been a rough road for Brandy and the family.  Brandy has had issues with the hock of one of her rear remaining legs for the past 5 months.  She has been lame, the hock has been very swollen and her mobility on that leg has really diminished.  After many tests, they were not able to figure out what was ailing that leg.  We were holding off on a bone biopsy because we did not want to put her thru it.  Our new vet was all ready to do bone fusion surgury on Monday because he was sure it was severe arthritis and fusing the bone would have removed the arthritic joint.  Before he would do the surgury, he wanted to do a biopsy to rule out cancer.  We just got the call today that it is Osteosarcoma...We are all heartbrokencry

Brandy is so happy and healthy otherwise and she has no lung MET's.  Looking at her, you would never think she is dying of cancer.  The doctor figures she has a couple more months.  We are going to keep her comfortable and happy until she shows signs of discomfort or pain.  We were blessed to have had so much time with her after her initial diagnosis and we are so happy we made the decision to fight this cancer.  She will continue to enjoy a happy life.  We will keep you all posted on how she is doing, please keep her in your prayers.

God bless you all

Teresa, Brandy's Auntie

Hugs to you on this day of unfortunate news.. Stay strong and positive and enjoy each day.   Just think of all the wonderful adventures you've shared over the years and will share in the time ahead!  Time for a good snuggle 🙂

So sorry to hear the news. I know that devastated feeling very well. But try to focus on what's good - Brandy, as you mentioned, is happy and otherwise healthy with no lung mets. She doesn't know she is sick. She doesn't know she is getting the short end of the stick. Try to enjoy your time with her and when that seems easier said than done, you can always come here for support because we know what you are going through.

Big hugs to Brandy and all of you,

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Teresa, I am so very sorry to hear this news about Brandy... it is so hard travelling this journey, I know how hard, I just encourage you  to enjoy your time with her as much as you can, as has been said to me by others here, there will be time for grieving later, right now live and love like your life depends on it, for the most part thats what we did Cooper and I am so glad I saved my grieving for later.

I am so sorry to hear this news.  Brandy has been such a fighter.  I don't know for sure but isn't it rare for the cancer to come back in another leg?  Reading about her amp in May 09 I think it is wonderful that she is still met free in her lungs, but very sad it came back somewhere else!

Give her all our love, and make sure the family does the same.  I agree with others, now is a time to love like never before.  Grief can always wait until after they leave us.  Enjoy every precious moment.

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

No two ways about it, cancer is an ugly and unpredictable journey.  Love and spoil that Brandy that doesn't know anything is wrong.  You still have some good days ahead.  Make every moment count.

Oh guys, we are so sad about this awful news. It's even more shocking that she doesn't have lung mets.

Yes Sammy, it is exceptionally rare for this to happen.

Brandy is such a fighter. May her strength guide all of you through this next part of the journey. Remember that she is still loving life as much as she can for every moment she has left. Spoil that girl rotten, she deserves it.

Keep us posted and remember we are here for you. {{{hugs}}}

I'm so sorry to hear the news about Brandy.  Sadie also ended up with a tumor in one of her back legs (near the knee area.) Her original osteosarcoma (and amputation site)was in her scapula and was a very small in size.  She also had clear chest x-rays and wasn't due to go back to the vet for 6 months when she stopped bearing weight on her back leg and would not get up anymore. The vet said that the tumor was probably there even as we did chemo to prevent metastasis to the organs.  However, I am very grateful for the 8 months I had with her before the 2nd tumor.  Live in the "here and now" and enjoy every moment! They say not to dwell in the past, but I think as tripawd parents, our challenge is not to dwell on the future.  I'll be thinking about you and wishing you many happy moments!

Lisa

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Theresa, we are so sorry to read about this sad turn in your amazing tripawd's life.  We've been so very inspired that Brandy and her family have had so much wonderful time together after the original diagnosis.  She's been one of the stories that keeps us fired up to NEVER give in to this horrible disease.  Having just discovered a small nodule on Sylvie's lung, we're reeling, but with Brandy as inspiration will keep fighting and loving every minute we have with our pooch.  Our prayers are with you that your time together is full of love and life and happiness!

Sweet Silly Sylvie, the Old English Sheepdog

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma 11/04/2010 at almost 7 years of age * Left hind leg amputated 11/09/2010 * Chemo on 12/10, 12/17, 01/10, 01/31

Sweet Sylvie's earthly journey ended on Nov. 3, 2011, one day short of a year since her diagnosis and 6 days short of her one-year ampuversary.  Her family celebrates her life as a sheepdog – ever the puppy, ever silly, ever sweet – and are grateful for our 7 years together.

Brandy definitely gives me inspiration and hope for my recent 5 week amputee Valentina. I am hoping that she can stay around for a long time too. I know it is devastating that the cancer has come back. Cancer just turns our world upside down. So sorry for you and your family. You have been blessed to have so much time with her after her original diagnosis, however I know that it is even harder to hear the awful news a second time around. Praying for you and your family to have the strength to get through this challenging and emotional time. I know that you will make the best of her time left here.
