Hello friends- I thought I would post quickly with the name of the "Silver" cream I have been putting on Jojo's elbow- 1x daily. ASCEND- Silver Sulfadiazine Cream USP 1%.
I also thought I would upload a pic as Jojo and Charlie have their cousin (Chloe) staying with us for the next 7 days- they all get along beautifully, but Jojo seems to have slowed down over the last couple days- not sure if the Elbow is getting sore or if he is just feeling a little BLAH. We go back to UCD next week- so I'll be sure to post after our next visit.
Bye for now
Mia
Awwwww...such a sweet picture! Looks like a lot of love..and maybe just a touch of "Hey Chloe, you stay on your side of the bed!"
This journey is full of "up days" and some "less up days"...some "good days" along with some "less good Try not to worry (easier said than done) if Jojo has some blah days every now and then...we all do!
Love seeing the pictures!
Hugs and love to all!

That IS a sweet photo!
Sorry you're worried about his blah-ness. See if you can notice when he's more 'blah' than others. After eating? Going outside? Waking up? That would help the vet out when you go next week.
Thank your for mentioning that silver cream. Sounds really amazing based on the reviews, I'm going to be sure to put that in our Gear blog . I can't find that specific brand but I found similar products elsewhere:
Silver Sulfadiazine 25 GM Tube
Silver Sulfadiazine 1% Cream is a topical antimicrobial used to prevent and treat bacterial or fungus infections including yeast infections. Often used in treatment of burns and sunburns in dogs, cats and horses. Without treatment, burns can easily become infected with dangerous bacteria or yeast, which can prevent them from healing and lead to serious infections. Silver Sulfadiazine Cream 1% offers protection against yeast infections and a broad range of bacterial strains, including common strains like E-coli and Staph. The cream also provides relief from itching, which is common during the healing process

Hello Friends-
I know it's been a while since I've posted and we've had a couple ups and downs in the last couple weeks or so. *Jerry turns out the cream was a little too intense for Jojo and after 2 applications it broke down his skin and the elbow tumor ulcerated- so I immediately stopped using it. so, we have back slided a bit and are back to a big oozy mess! I did get a wash solution from UCD along with sterile gauze and we are on a daily wash schedule. Now- the good news is we have 5 rounds of chemo under our belt and there has not been ANY growth or spread of the cancer. All cancer sites seem to be stagnant and the Liver meds seem to be working as Jojo's liver panels are all within normal range. The vet says once we complete round 6 of chemo is when we will have to sit down and talk about the go forward plan- we maybe able to continue on with chemo until his Liver shows us signs of wear and tear. I did purchase Jojo a new cone because he is SOOOOOOOOOO over the cone- so this new one is more like a doughnut, it keeps him from licking the elbow, but still allows him to see everything. Also, for my older boy Charlie- well, I just bought him some non-skid shoes called Grippers- he seems to be loosing a bit of his mobility in the hind quarters and these new shoes are supposed to help him regain some control on the wood floors and should help with the wear on the top of the foot as he drags it during walks. I put them on him tonight and he took to them quickly, doesn't seem to bother him at all- so I'm curious to see if they help him feel a little more secure and stable.
Anyhow friends that it from me for now and I am so appreciative for all of your continued support- Thank you for walking this journey with me even when I go dark for a while. Your kind words, prayers, pics and positive energy keeps me going everyday and I feel indebted to you all!
Some fun photo's of the new cone AND the proof my house and my bed has gone to the dogs!
Hi Mia,
Good to hear from you again, and glad to hear Jojo is still doing well.....I love these new pics of both your guys, and those new booties for Charlie should help him out in a huge way to get around without slipping. It is so awesome that this "ugly c" has been stopped in its tracks regarding Jojo, there is no news that can be better than that!!
Continue to keep us updated on both your boys, I have fallen in love with both of them,
Love,
Bonnie & Angel Polly
Ok first things first...you are not indebted to us, we are here because we LOVE your boy and think you're pawesome. No apologies for being away, you're uh, just a little busy there.
I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing elbow troubles. That is really, really hard. Dang I wish that silver cream had worked, like I know you do as well. Ugh. Well at least his new cone looks comfy, I'll bet he thinks so too. Glad it's working for him, many long-nosed dogs can get around that one.
Hey do you have a link for those Grippers? I'm not finding them on Amazon. I always like knowing about new products out there, haven't heard of those before.
Hugs to all of you! 3-paws up for all you do and more improvement!

I have read this thread and I am pleased to hear even with all the ups and downs things seem to be going well. My own dog was diagnosed with localised histiocytic sarcoma and survived 4.5 yrs. I lost him last Easter to poisoning from a plant known as vinca.
You are giving your dog the best chance with what your doing. If my dog had disseminated histiocytic sarcoma UC Davis is where I would want him treated. Dr Moore is probably the most noted expert on this disease in the world. I link to the information from Davis and found it very useful when Frodo was diagnosed as it was hard at the time to find info on it. Hugs to you both. Thanks for posting the lovely photos and all the best and may Jojo go on enjoying life for a long time to come.

LISA...just wanted to say hello to you and to thank you for continuing to keep Frodo's legacy alive and touching lives and inspiring others. I hope everyone will go back and read about Frodo...he will NEVER be forgotten here!!
Jojo and Charley...you are so darn smoochable and snuggly!!! I just love seeing pictures of you two! Glad all is going well...yeah, a few bumps, but nothing that can stip these boys from enjoying the loving and spoiling!
HUGS TO ALL!

Thanks for your kind words about Frodo. I miss him every day and the website is his legacy. If it had not been for what I learned as a result of his journey I would never have done it. I nearly gave up a few times as it was him and I the team out there getting the message out. Its hard but heck he loved other dogs like no other dog I have ever met so he would want me to continue.
Hopefully if time permits I can pop on over here more often. I send everyone with amputation questions over to everyone here. Plenty of people to give their experiences and amazingly they are mostly good. We need more of you guys over in Aus as some forums there have people anti amputation and that grates me big time.

Good Morning Friends- Thank you for all the replies, I love reading all your well wishes. We have had great success with the wash process for Jojo's elbow tumor and the infection has cleared up and I can tell he is feeling much better. We went out for a pretty good walk yesterday which was the first for Joe in about 4 weeks. Also- Jerry the non skid socks I purchased for Charlie are called "Grippers" you can find them here Grippers. I've included a photo so you can see them and how they fit- The sizing is a little touch b/c your supposed to measure the paw- lol good luck with that! Anyhow- our next visit to UCD is on the 5th, and then I'm off to Texas for a week of work. I'll post again soon- Thanks to all for your continued Support.
Much Much Love- Mia and the boys!
Thanks for the link for the Grippers. They look pretty good

Hello Friends-
I've just gotten back from 10 days of work travel, and boy is it good to be home with all my guys! Jojo's last check up was on March 5- he got a very good bill of health again - Basically all tumor sites have been stagnate now for about 2 months, we have shown no signs of spreading and in fact the Elbow mass has actually gone down in size. Jojo took his 5th round of Chemo and has been doing really well. Our next appointment is on the 26th and this is where we will meet with the whole vet team and re-baseline our treatment path- do we keep going with Chemo until the liver tells us its time to stop OR do we stop treatment all together to give the body time to rest and rebound. I feel so confident that we chose the right path and that Jojo's body has responded so well to the treatment that I'm a little Leary of stopping everything. I'm interested in your thoughts and experiences. As you might remember the original prognosis was "roughly" 6 months should we do nothing and if we chose to proceed with treatment we may buy ourselves about year. Well we've been on this journey for 6 months now and Jojo doesn't look or seem to be anywhere near a sick dog.. so I am confused about what the next steps should be, so looking forward to your opinions.
I've taken some new photo's of the Elbow tumor- you can see how much its gone down.
