Hello Sally and Hannah,

You two sure have had your challenges but I am soooo inspired by how you both have persevered through the adversity and it sounds like Hannah is improving! Fingers crossed that the healing and recovery continues in a positive fashion.

Awwww-Thanks Stirling and Tahoe for your kind sentiments.  It says so much about who you two are---you have a lot on your mind right now and here you are reaching out to others!  Remember though, for Tahoe, it,s just another day to give love and receive love and he's nmot worried about a sngle thing! Ahhh, the bliss of being dog   And thaks for saying you are inspired by us!! I have to laugh because I feel like such a bundle of fear sometimes and I hate to show that part on the site (I hate it when I get fussed at for letting the fear get  the best of me sometimes so I really try hard to keepit check)   You- and almost everyone nere thogh ALWAYS transport me to a place f strength and ampowerment .    Thanks for ackowledging that my Hannah has had a few challenges and we are, indeed coming through ths adversity just fine-----maybe not always eloquently and maybe sometimes the fear sets kn', but we are nere for each other and I am eternally grateful for that----for yo and Tahoe---and for this community.      You two are  on a journey that in a strange way' is actually a gift.   There can be no greater bond than the one forged by this experience.  You are a great hero for Tahoe.      You hang in there and Happy Hannah and I are walking by your side  and you are NOT alone.

Your words to us were simple and  they touched me

rfoundly.  Thank you

Surrouding with a safety net,  Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah has had two- yes two - nights where she slept well!  Ans when Hannah sleeps well the rest of the dogs and I sleep well!!

She had her first chemo Wed.--today is Saturday--and so far she feels just fine.  I've not put her on any nauseau pills yet as I "think" the first three days is when it is most l400

okay, another screw up--surprise,surprise!      the 400 mg. of gabapentin every 15  hours seems to be doing the trick.  Maybe even the carboplatin made hwr feel better - ha!

I've always called her my baby hippo on four legs now it's three.     So, it looks like her recovery is ow proceeding forward consistently just like all of you said irpt would!      Did wonder, did any of you give antibiodic along side carboplatin?  I thought onco mentioned Simplicef would be in her take home meds----it wasn't and rhe onco dept. is only there three days/week so won't get to ask til Mon.

Happy Hannah's weight down from120 lb to 106  in the three weeks since surgery and onco said that was great!  My response was one of shock (imagine that) as I think that is a huge -way to huge- amount foe such a short time.  She's been eating fi e the whole time albeit healthier and she needed to lose weight-----just wondering if anyone else with overweight dog had thst experience.

Aother victory---she actually laid on the surgery side last night and wagged her tail ever so proudly!     Much love to all amd sending each of you supportivw e ergy

yay! that is great progress.  Laying on her amp side is a big step forward!

As for the antibiotics after carboplatin, we've heard both around here, some dogs do get sent home with antibiotics, some dont.  Jill's onco does not send her home with them, however, after her first round of carbo her white blood cell count dropped drastically and she had to be put on a round of penicillin.  Let me warn in you advance if Hannah's white blood cell count drops when they do her blood work at her next chemo, DONT FREAK OUT (I did!).  I got totally freaked and came here and everyone assured, and my onco did as well, that this was actually a good sign that the chemo is working!  (it doesnt mean that its not working if the WBC count doesnt drop though so dont worry if it doesnt drop).  I was so concerned about it dropping though, but everyone assured me IT WAS OK!  so that's just an advanced warning if it does happen :)

Jill is a 9-year-old tuxedo kitty. She was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in June 2012 on her toe in her right hind leg. Her leg was amputated on 12/12/12 and she completed four rounds of chemo (2 of Carbo, 2 of Doxy) in April 2013. Hey- Jackson goes home from chemo every time with an antibiotic.  It's for 10d, starting the day after chemo (so today he'll get his first pill).  It's Zenequin.  He handles it just fine and perhaps that plus everything else we do for him, he's never had a white blood cell count drop, no chemo ever postponed, or really any side effects.  Maybe it's the antibiotic.  Maybe it's not.  It's possible we're paying for a drug he doesn't need, but given how well he's doing, we keep buying it!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Sassy never received antibiotic but had her WBC (white blood cell) count dropped my vet had told me before we would need antibiotic.  I am so glad Hannah is going great.  Laying on amputation side is a bit step.  Keep going Hannah.

I missed the bit about her resting on her stump side!  That's HUGE!  We are so happy, so proud!  We celebrated here when Jackson finally could.  YEY, Hannah!

As for her weight loss, well, it seems to me like a lot to lose, but you said she had pounds to lose anyway.  So long as she's eating and drinking like she should be (now), that's terribly exciting.  YEY!
