Just came home from chemo=

1st and foremost the x-rays were resulted as (No evidence of pulmonary metastasis) sf-yell(WOOHOO!!)

Her white count although on the lower end of 3799 they went ahead with the chemo today.(Normally she has been running in the 5000’s. Both before her 1st treatment and a week after treatment it was around 5200. Her red count went back up to normal range, her platelets were good, and they did a renal profile all within normal reference range.. YEAH!!

The x-rays were resulted as No evidence of pulmonary metastasis sf-yell(WOOHOO!!)

The oncologist was impressed and very pleased with how well she is getting around, stating that she was pulling him all over the yard and chased a squirrel sf-laugh

Overall an EXCELLENT report!! She seems a little more sicker then she did with her first chemo but we will see tomorrow. She did eat and drink tonight so I am going to take that and we are back to hand feeding. Not that Mom doesn't mind too much....smiley1

GREAT!!  This chemotherapy is important and it is wonderful that Shilo is handling is so well.  The only trouble that Cherry had with her chemotherapy was a total loss of appetite, but it did return to a reasonable level after all the chemotherapy was done.  So don't get down if Shilo looses some interest in food and just go back to the hand feeding if necessary.  My understanding is that the vast majority of the chemicals are purged from the system after 72 hours.  I brushed the teeth three times a day during this period to freshen the mouth and help overcome the taste that the chemotherapy leaves.  I used chicken broth to help sooth the tummy, provide some fluids, and encourage drinking.  I also have a few tricks to make sure that they stay hydrated if necessay.

Cherry - Thank you... It is great that you posted that information, I think we are going to need it. Today has been a little roughter. She has thrown up 3 times, and refuses to eat. Even her favorites, I don't blame her I don't think that I would want to eat when I feel so yuckysmiley11. She is still drinking really well so thank goodness that worry isn't there.. I will try brushing her teeth and seeing if I can't get her to drink some chicken broth.

All - You are all an AMAZING support, thank you!!

Yay for clean x-rays!!! Smile I'm sorry that Shilo is feeling icky after this latest chemo... but it should pass. Did your vet give you any meds in case of nausea?

Ups Shilo.... tomorrow will be better. In our experience the best to do is to leave food out for a day and then recover lost time when the tummy settles Smiley

Clean x-rays are great... you should pawty once Shilo feels better!

Well Shilo had a kinda rough 5 days after chemo. We took a slightly different approach that seemed to lessen the stress for everyone. We just made sure that she had plenty to drink. We tried different foods but she turned her nose to most everything except a small bite here and there. We would put it on her plate and just leave it there for her if she wanted it. Day 6 dinner she ate like crazy, and it was so good to see her eat. smiley4 Now she is day 7 and is back to normal. We had her CBC done today and her White count was better then ever 12,000!! It is so true how the reaction of the pack has a huge influence on our babies. I am just so glad she is feeling better!!

Thank you all for the support, with the knowledge of what to expect sure takes some of the worries out. It also allows us to help our babies stay positive.

That's awesome!!!  Are you using K9 Immunity?  Jack was on it during his chemo and never had a problem with any of his blood counts.  I am just curious if you are using it, too, or if Shilo is a super dog!!!  In other words, I guess I'm trying to see how much of a difference being on K9 Immunity during chemo makes vs. those doggies that aren't on it…  :)
