Pam, that's wonderful news! Hope you're having a good, relaxing evening. You're smart not to pick her up until Monday, those fireworks will make any pup insane, especially one all hopped up on painkillers.

Enjoy your weekend and get your rest. We'll be here if you need anything.

Well, Dr. Shiraz was not available for an in-home consultation but he was kind enough to send Dr. Coors over..........so, no bubbles but lots of foam!  Ha ha.

Dr. Cox just called....she said that Shelby was up and hopping around late last night before she left, and that this morning she has appointed herself the social director of the hospital.  She went outside to do her thang, and came back in trying to hop over and visit everyone.  Doc said "Pam, I know this isn't your first special needs dog so I'm not going to sugar-coat my words.  Believe me when I tell you she is doing GREAT."

That's my silly willy girl.....wooo hoooo.

And Comet......I'd love to take *foster* off the signature line; however, since I'm unemployed right now (translation: financially in bad shape) it's rough enough with 3 other special needs dogs and 5 cats.  I want to make sure that Shelby will always have what she needs medically...right now, I just want her to heal and get used to her new lifestyle.

But I will tell you that she is reaching in and grabbing a spot in my heart that belongs to her and only her.  And that she came to me for a reason.............sigh.

Such wonderful news about Shelby - she'll be amazing you every day and I'm sure that's a huge spot she's grabbed in your heart.  We wish you all the best and hope Shelby has a very smooth and speedy recovery.  We're thinking of you and like everyone said, get some rest while you can smile.

Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

Glad to hear Shelby is up and hopping around.

Here's how Denali is doing if you haven't followed (since she was a day aheady of you):  Day of surgery - Denali was doing great... Day after she needed help walking.... Today She's still in need of help - but I'm letting her try to figure it out again in the house (and help her outside).  She's been a little whiny - but I think that's to be expected.

Thanks everyone.......a friend down in Tampa dropped off a small ex-pen for me to pick up on Monday along with a couple of little special things for Shelby once she's home.  She said the vet tech started smiling when she mentioned Shelby's name.....guess Silly Willy is working her charm on everyone.

Haley (hope I got your name right), how are your other dog(s) around Denali?

You got my name right - Loki's doing fine.  He sniffs at Denali every now and again, but that's about it.  He's pretty much leaving her alone.  She tried to plop down next to him, but he moved.  He let her in his crate with no problems too (his food bowl is in there and sometimes he's funny about food/his food dish).  He's been moving out of her way when she hobbles by - so he's been perfect.  He calmed down a bunch too - he was quite snappy and growly with all my visitors when she was gone.  He's always somewhat grumpy around people, but he was MORE grumpy.

I'm going to be posting more pictures soon - they're uploading now.

I'm sure Shelby is doing great!  It always seems to help when the dogs have a positive attitude and a positive outlook.  Do you know what all meds Shelby will be on?  We're only on 3 pills here:  rimadyl, simplicef and gabapentin (and then Loki has something to calm him for the fireworks).

Thanks Haley for the insight......hopefully gooberhead Phoebe and little stumbling Frankie won't upset Shelby.  Kona.........she's the  bomb, so I don't worry about her.

Dr. Cox said she'll be sent home with antibiotics (not sure which one yet), Previcox and Tramadol.

Just got an update from the rescue's foster coordinator.  I guess she called down to Tampa Bay and was told that Shelby was doing well and was getting herself up quite often.  I hope she's not overdoing it.

We're glad to hear that Shelby is doing so well!  And awesome that's she's a self-appointed social director for your vet! rasberry  We're keeping fingers and paws crossed for continued good news about her!

Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

The vet called again this morning and was laughing.......she said "I can't believe your girl......a lot of dogs don't want to go outside in the wet grass but Shelby goes and does her thing with no problem.  She's eating well and this morning, before I could stop her, she jumped up on her hind legs and put her paw on me."

Somehow, I have a feeling that keeping her somewhat quiet is going to be a challenge 🙂

Off to Tampa to pick her up tomorrow.....I can't wait to see her!

That's great news! Daisy was the same way--all energy and couldn't wait to get out of the vet's office and back home. Then she crashed for a couple days in the comfort of her home. smiley

Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.
So grateful for each day with her!
