I just got the call from Shelby's surgeon that she is out of surgery and breathing on her own......snoring like a drunk sailor but breathing on her own.  Whew.  I hate being 2 hours away from her but I know that right now she needs rest and she will be watched and cared for 24/7 until I pick her up on Monday afternoon.

So now that I know she's alright, I'm going to go in the bathroom and shut the door and finally cry the tears I've been holding back all day.  I don't want my other 3 dogs to see me upset, so maybe I'll take a hot bath and try to relax.

She's breathing on her own.....and that damned leg doesn't hurt anymore....thank God.

Just got an update from her vet tech......she didn't get back to the recovery area until almost 4PM and she's now somewhat awake, but still pretty loopy.  The lovely tech did say that she seemed like a sweetheart and when she would sing-song her name, Shelby would try to wag her tail....that's my girl.

They will try to get her up at 9PM and if all goes well, give her a bit of the food I sent down.

Now I will finally crash............zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I do not know what I would have done without you guys.....the support, encouragement and knowledge here is incredible.

Congratulations, Shelby! Now you can begin the rest of your wonderful (but different) life. I bet you're going to surprise your mom with how well you do! winker

Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.
So grateful for each day with her!

What great news about Shelby!!! It sounds like she's a superstar superstar, albeit a snoring one. How happy she will be to be rid of the pain. Yes you deserve a bubble bath...and dare I suggest a glass of wine wink ? Then start catching some zzzzzzzzz's, you're going to need them to keep up to her in the near future.

Congrats, I am so happy for both of you.

Laura and Tai

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.

And we do not know what we would do without the support of this community.

Tail wagging is a good thing. Thanks for the update!
