Cherry's dad here,
As with all of us who are moving down this journey, we have a perfect right to be a little nervous and anxious regarding the recovery process. It does sound to me as if you are doing well and proceeding normally. This is not to say that there have not been bumps and that there will not be more such bumps and setbacks, just try to keep as optimistic as you can for Shadow. I just make sure that Emily is at home, go outside away from Cherry and then totally lose it. Regarding the drugs/pain killers, Cherry had a very bad reaction to the Tramadol (went into uncontrolled jerking of the entire body) and has done much better as soon as we take her off the drugs. This is the same for the drugs taken for the Chemotherapy. While these drugs are necessary, we have done much better as soon as we are drug-free. For us, the Chemotherapy treatment was far worse than the amputation, but that too passed and we are moving along well.
I went to keeping a diary (daily for the first month and then approximately weekly since) so that I could make a real accessment of our progress/regress as we moved through this journey. You are welcome to visit this diary at http://home.com.....net/~enbba.....ryjourney/. Most of all, this site and the great people contributing to the site are a great source of strength, wisdom, and hope. PLEASE keep us posted and we all wish you the best. It really is better to hop on three legs than limp on four.

First let me say that Ive never been so gald to see a dog poop as when Max did after his first and second surgery. You wonder how it can all stay in there for so long. If I didnt know better Id say there was a smile on his face afterwards too!!
His nose did drip alot and sometimes still does. He also drooled. I think its just their bodies becoming accustomed to all of the things going on. Shadow is doing great!! I know what you mean about worrying though. Its an every day occurance even after the surgery. Im always waiting for the other shoe to drop while attenpting to enjoy the good times and make them last. Try to relax, take a deep breath and know that when there is something wrong, Shadow will let you know.

Tina, we talked about this in the chat the other night, sorry you missed it.

"A dry nose or a wet nose may be normal. Neither one means fever or sick dog. Dry nose tends to go with dry skin"
and
"If they are a little dehydrated their nose might get dry. They can also sweat through their nose and paws"

Hi everybody! Today was officially 2 weeks since the amputation. Shadow seems to be improving everyday. He is getting up to move around more and more, and the yelps and whimpering has subsided to a minimum. Yesterday, after he got his stitches out, we took him out to lunch with us, and he enjoyed some outdoor time lounging in an outdoor cafe while we ate lunch.
Now that the stitches and drain tube is out, here is the first pic of Shadow and his life as a tripawd:

So, the first 2 weeks is behind us. I have to say it was probably the most difficult 2 weeks I've been through in my life. We still have many challenges ahead of us, our first round of chemotherapy should be starting sometime next week. Hopefully he will make it through without any issues!
Thanks again to everybody here for the encouragement and advice during this ordeal.

What a wonderful update. So very glad Shadow is doing well. Those two weeks behind you will make the weeks coming look pretty easy, even with the chemo.
I'm not seeing the picstures in your post. Which of us has a problem, Jerry.
