Well, got the call from Dr Boyer last night about 6 pm .  Sassy's culture is growing something.  Actually 2 somethings.  A staph infection & a bacteria (she told me what it was and I don't remember so will get the name when I call them back today).  So I don't know if that is a positive that it is growing or more a negative.  I mean the staph infection I have no idea how she could have gotten that unless it was from the last bladder tap?  Not sure.    The lab is running antibiotic sensitivies right now to determine what antibiotic to treat this crap with.  what-ever

So yesterday she didn't really want to eat but did.  Today she refused everything.  I finally got her to eat some yogurt but that is it.  No goats milk, no hamburger, i even tried the pork again.  She nibbled one small piece (if you could call it that) and refused everything else.  crying  I know she isn't feeling very well.  She isn't coughing or anything.  I am pretty sure its from this bladder stuff.

I just hope this isn't a bad sign

Sometimes this darn joirney can just pluck your last nerve!! Darn stuff!

Sooo, maybe they can blame something on Cytoxan, but certainly not the staph! Just seems like that's more "hospital induced". Sassy has enough to deal with without some external crap added to the list! Go back and look at the blog of Oscar (I think). They just got over dealing with a staph i fection too.

And NO! None of this is a bad sign because....the particular strain can now be identified and treated! Without question, she's not eating because of these horrid infections. And, this is really pushing it, but of all the things that could go wrong with this stupid stuff, bladder infections are not too bad and can be treated!!
Please keep us posted as soon as you talk with Dr. Voyer and let us know the plan. Also, would be real interested on her take on HOW and WHY Sassy has a staph infection.

Of course, now you have to get her to eat to get the antibiotics in her, vut er appetite will pick back up once she starts feeling better. No tempersture, right?

Lots of love to you and that amazing Sassy!

Well shoot, I'm sorry! But a bad sign? No way. Like Sally said, it's identified and it can be treated. Staph can happen for a zillion different reasons, don't waste energy trying to figure it out. Focus on helping her heal and this will be a memory soon enough.

Can't blame her for not wanting to eat, antibiotics can be really tough on the stomach. But I hope you do get something in her, I know it's easy to worry. Hugs coming your way.

Well I know I won't spell these right.  The staph infection was staph pseudointermedius  & enterococcus bacteria uti was the bacteria. We haven't had a very good day.  Sassy didn't want to eat hardly anything.  I got her to eat her am yogurt.  she had 2 homemade chicken strips (made for dinner last night) and then 2 meat patties off a mc double from mc donalds.  She turned her nose up at her yogurt.

She has been panting really hard.   I am pretty certain she is in pain from this. (or my mind could be saying from the mets)  She is sleeping right now.  Gave her a tramadol with her pill & her antibiotics tonight.

Plan of action is 14 days of antibiotics right now but we will be seeing the vet tuesday for blood work so we will discuss more then

Hugs

Hang in there Sassy - sending only the very best thoughts your way.

Those darn infections take everything right out of them plus they usually have a fever on top of it all so that is probably why she's panting more than normal. I have confidence that a couple days on the antibiotics will start to perk her back up.

Take a breath Michelle and give yourself and Sassy some hugs from us!!

Ditto everyting Luanne jist said. Realy, it makes perfecty good sense. Also, I KNOW Sassy's a big girl and a big eater. But realky, two burger patties and a couple of chicken strips isn't that shabbyy of a meal.

Keep hanging tough girls! As Jerry said stay focused n the healing and give everything time to work. I'm sure that antibiotics aren't helping with the appetite issues. Sassy will get over tis and feeling better soon.

Healing hugs being sent FedX to you right now!! Fragile, Handle with Care!

Dear Michelle and Sassy,

We are sending huge, huge healing hugs your way. I just hate it when our furbabies don't feel good-those antibiotics will perk Sassy up soon, and she'll be eating everything again. Please keep us updated, and give Sassy kisses for us.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

Michelle,
I bet Sassy will be feeling better when those antibiotics kick in. I know when I'm fighting an infection and have a temp I don't feel like eating....and I ALWAYS feel like eating!
Sending strong, healing thoughts to the whole pack tonight.

I'm with Karen...I'm betting Sassy will perk up when the antibiotic kicks in.  Hang in there you two. You are BOTH fighters.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Michelle, more big hugs and hearts to you and Sassy!!!  We sure know that "don't want any" twitch of the nose reactions.  Those damn psuedococcicrappy critters; they sure do mess up a furry.  Agree with everyone else; another bump in your road, but lots of good pawsitive thoughts and prayers coming your way.

Roxie's latest "don't want any but I'll take just a taste of that" is Zuke's Z-Filets, grilled chicken or venison.  Worked on those days when she felt too crappy for anything else.

Jerry/Admin - not sure of the policy here for naming brand-names...bleep out if needed; can always send a PM...see, I'm learning...

Also have been picking up pre-grilled pre-seasoned steak strips at the grocery store; she LOVES beef, so that's gotten her attention, too.  She's not on any chemo now, so I feel like I have a little more leeway in the many and varied dishes I offer her.  She also seems to not like sticking her picky nose in the bowl, so I've also been offering her a little bit at a time in the palm of my hand and little by little it disappears.  And she's brought her loyal servant to a new low, so that's another plus for the Princess.

Best to you both!!!!

Yesterday seemed better today is like Friday so far.  All she ate today was her yogurt.  She got sick in the middle of the night.  I think that was because she broke the rimadyl capusle open.  so it probably all absorbed into her system really fast.  Her panting is hard & labored.  She is peeing & drinking lots of water.

I am just very worried about her right now.  I know it takes awhile for the antibiotics to work.  I just it would go away and she could be the way she was Thursday.  I am not asking for to much am I? I know I was trying to hard to stay positive but today is just one of those days is it because of the mets or the staph & bacteria infection.

Aww Michelle I know this is so tough, I'm really sorry. I would give anything to make her all better right now (and no you're not asking for too much). Is there anything at all that she will eat that might help her absorb the medications?

All she would eat today is yogurt.  :(   I tried everything.  She wouldn't even drink her goats milk or eat any hamburger.  I even made scrambled eggs nope.  I tried everything sad
