roxiesmom said Tacking onto a recent post from a search for Palladia. Just came home from Roxie's xray 1 month after chemo ended (we'd done 4 carboplatin/2doxirubicin chemos 3 weeks apart starting a few weeks after her ampu in March). She has a 3cm tumorish mass in her left lung above the heart. 2 other suspicious areas from last month's xray also slightly enlarged. Got that punched-in-the-gut feeling because she's been doing so well; onco also seemed truly surprised/disappointed at the results. So we're starting Palladia M/W/F alternating with Deramaxx Tu/Th/Sa. Have read some comments on GI issues; has anyone used anything to coat the stomach that helps? She's REALLY annoyed at all the stuff I'm hiding in her food already..now I need to check on interactions with the stuff I'm using. Appreciate any/all ideas.

A d HRH Roxy is still doing well and showing no outward sysmptons and that's hugely important:-) This isn't anything anyone ever wants to hear. You've also been on this site long enough to know there are a lot of options and a lot of dogs co ti ui g on with a quality filled life after mets! Jerry! Sassy! Jackson! And now Roxy's gonna' get in on tnat list of inspirtionall dogs making up teir own rules and teir own statistics! Any reason Palladia specifically? Cytoxan or Luekeran discussed? Apocaps and K9 immunity are all okay with metroomics….I've forgotten what else she's taking. Listen, this journey is challenfing vut HRH Roxy has kow idea she's on it! Again, I can't say enough about how powerful itis that there are no sysmptons. This isn't anymore of a "death sentence" than anything else with this stupid crap disease! Pepcid is sed….vut check it out first as that in itself can have it's own issues…….#&$%#%$# keybd. disappearing again…will write more when ho e from work also live yogurt and liquid probotics lot of love…..chin up…..same battle… new day…new drugs….and the tripawd power with you every step of way Rooo ROOOOOOOOOOOOO ROO ROOOOOOOOOO…go make her tail wag and say ROO RooOoo love, Sally and Hapy Hannah - See more at: http://tripawds.....nf1yB.dpuf
Liz, I'm really sorry to hear about Roxie's x-rays. How certain are the docs that the spot(s) was a met? I sure hope it's not!
Please feel free to start a new topic in Treatment and Recovery so we don't lose track of how she's doing. That way we can help you as much as possible. As for Palladia, you'll find a lot of information here about it. I don't have experience with it but lots of folks do so I know they'll chime in, but again, it would be easier to help if you had your own topic. I would love to see if your vet's interested in being interviewed about Palladia, we need all the info we can get about it.
We send all our love and have our paws crossed that she continues being her usual, hoppy self! Keep us posted OK?
Thanks, Rene; started a new post and copied from the original one...I'm sure there's a better way to do it, but seems to have worked ok...sort of...feel free to fix as needed!!
I think onco's concern was from the amount of change in 1 month so is looking malignant, and that's how she's approaching it. In a way today is harder than the original diagnosis day - I knew by then that something was very wrong but she's been doing so very well we thought the chemo and supplements were really working. Until she opened the door to the exam room and I saw her expression I really thought the xrays would support my confidence. I've been reading a lot of stories here of longer survival times even after mets so am trying to get back into that frame of mind.
Roxie will be 12 on 9/1, and we've only had her a year since mid-June. Although the onco made no false promises, we fixed on that hoped-for extra year and it hasn't been quite 4 months since surgery. We'll start the Palladia tomorrow and work through it.
Thank you again for all the support here at Tripawds - it matters every day!

Liz, that's cool, I see how you continued the topic here, that works.
I'm so sorry. Yeah, getting told the news about the mets really knocks the wind out of your sails. But please keep on staying strong and focused on all of the dogs who did make it a long time with mets. It's entirely possible that Roxie will beat the odds too.
OK, keep us posted and give that wild sleeper of yours a big hug from us.

Liz,
Just wanted to tell you the mets don't mean a death sentence. Sassy was diagnosed 6 months ago today with them. We are still going strong. Gonna keep fighting as long as Sassy does too. We have been pretty fortunate. We did do the Metronomics with Cytoxin & an Nsaid. But we have to switch to Leukeran because of the side affect of UTIs which Sassy did come across. Good luck with the Padailla, that wasn't in our budget as it was too expensive

Hi Michelle; yours is one of the pawsitive stories I was following even before today. Confusing as it all gets, at least we're at a point where treatments can be changed when issues arise. Our onco talked a lot today about the expense and the clients who've had to stop using drugs because of the cost. It's such a wrenching decision to have to make, but so many of these cutting-edge treatments are terribly expensive. We've only been able to go down this road because of an inheritance that I'd hoped would allow an early retirement from a crappy job....so much for THAT dream! But I'm grateful to have been able to help give Roxie some extra quality time.
Thanks and hugs back to you and your very beautiful Sassy!

I'm so sorry you've got mets, I know you didn't want to hear that, but as others have said and I have read plenty on this website - that in no way means the end.
Sounds like you are top of things immediately and figuring out what meds for her. We're sending you all pawsitive thoughts and Loving strength!

When it rains....Since the onco visit on Thursday, Roxie had Deramaxx on Thursday and Saturday with Palladia in between on Friday. Called onco yesterday morning b/c her appetite tanked again over the weekend. Advised to stop Deramaxx, add in Prilosec OTC and see how things go (in addition to probiotics and digestive enzymes). Took the dogs to our favorite park in the afternoon and she had a blast but slowed quickly; had to turn her back so she wouldn't over-do on the trail. Ate well supper and this morning's breakfast, but hubby called me at work early afternoon to say she was very listless and slept most of the day. Stopped and picked up goat's milk esbilac on the way home. Her first taste was like she was sucking on a lemon but she lapped up about a half-cup. No interest in anything other than grilled chicken breast for dinner. Took her out after and she had mucous-y diarrhea. Also has a little mucous in the corners of her eyes. Breaking my heart with her face; it's like she's giving up and she's only had 2 doses of the Palladia. I'm digging around for antidiarrheal stuff; pretty sure I threw out some stale-dated meds not too long ago - stupid spring cleaning! Will probably sleep downstairs tonite, see how she is in the morning and call the onco or primary care vet back tomorrow.
As always, any advice appreciated!!!!

Okay Liz! We are all right here and, as much as anyone else can, understand your frustration, fear and just plain ole' sadness thrown in there somewhere too.
But listen up!! Having a reaction to Palladia and/or the other meds, Does OT......repeat.....does NOT equate to her Royal Highness givig up! It equates to her apparently having an upset digestive system right now and maybe overdoing it just a touch at the park. There are others who will chime in, but it seems that an awful lot of dogs have had reactions to Palladia...at least in the beinning.
How long has she been on the goat's milk? Is it possible that's causing a problem? One of m dogs cannot tolerate any kid of mil product without messingup her stool . The mucous i dicates an upset digestive track, right? Ad so many meds are NOT supposed to be given with dairy products. So, we just have to get that taken care of and she should start feeling better.
Remeber, She was feeling better yesterday and even this morning. No sir, that dog is ot even thinking of throwing in her crown!! Queen's just don't do that! First of all, they have "their people" throw it for them:-)
Don't worry, I won't tell HRH Roxie you said that "giving up" thing! She would have your head!!
Now won't say don't worry. I will say could you put those worries in a box for ow, send them off to tripawd la d, and we'll worry for you so you won't have too! O,ay? Deal? Well, actually tripawd land won't worry either because we kow "what goes down---must come up!" This is just like te amp. recovery process...a good day...a less good day....then a good day...and then all good days to co e for a lo g tk e!!
We ove you Liz! You are so strong!
we love you HRH Roxie! You've got this!

Liz,
I didn't use the esbilac goat's milk. I went to walmart and got the goats milk it there. Sassy is being picky again too so it must be in the air LOL. Keep your head up

Hey Liz, I second what Sally says: having a reaction to Palladia isn't indicative of where things are going. Palladia often has this effect on dogs from what I've seen from members here. I hope the Prilosec works. I'm so sorry, I know this is hard!
One other thing to try: green clay. This works WONDERS on our Wyatt and it has on other pups here. If you live anywhere near a decent health food store you should be able to find it tomorrow. Good luck. Please keep us posted and hang in there.
Love that girl and give her a big, big smooch from us!
