Yay, Ronnie!  We're all here cheering you on, and wishing you the best as you recover.  Remember to get your mom to give you lots of loving and lots of treats!

Hugs,

Holly

PS - mom says I laid on my surgical site, too.  Just not the first day - but it still freaked her out when I did it.  It didn't seem to bother me, though.  I also liked it when mom put a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel on my surgical site.  That felt good!  The v-e-t told her to do that 3 times a day for about 10 minutes and I liked it, partly because mom would sit right with me to hold the peas on me.  Of course, those first few days she never really left my side.  Kind of like what I do to her most of the time! rasberry

Glad to hear Ronnie's doing well! Connor had surgery Thursday too. He's a front right leg. He's also amazing me. I'm still afraid his energy and good spirits are too good to be true. Cautiously optimistic! Best wishes to you guys 🙂

It is Sunday and Ronnie still doing amazing. I really expected her to be in more pain and not adapt so well, but wow, this girl is great. She is off her pain meds and this is only day 3 after surgery. We have watched her closely and she looks so happy, getting around just fine and she actually was digging a hole in the grass today. She had her right front leg amputated, but that has not stopped this greyhound! I wish you could see her and her behavior, same ole Ronnie! We are very blessed. I continue to pray that her chemo goes as well.

I will also pray of each and every tripawd on this site!!

Take good care all! wink

I'm so glad that she's doing so well just 3 days post-op! Why is she off her pain meds so soon after her surgery? Was she having problems while on them?

Keep us posted on her progress... Sending you all a big fat hug!!!

It's not the first time I've heard a dog has been taken of pain meds this early, but most need them longer.

It does sound like Ronnie is doing phenomenal!  Especially since I thought I recalled posts in the past saying that greyhounds as a breed do seem to have a harder time than most with the amputation recovery period (just emotionally, I think).  Way to go, Ronnie!!!

Gerry has been a tripawd since 12/16/2009.

He was a shelter dog with a mysterious past and an irrepairable knee injury.

Well folks my husband and I have been monitoring her very closely and in the morning she is back to herself and seems very happy so we held off on the pain meds and she did just great so we held off a bit longer and before we knew it she was outside digging a hole and being Ronnie! I didnt let her continue because she would have laid in the dirt and I didnt want dirt in her incision. When she was in pain she did whine but she has not done that since Saturday early morning. I have a baby monitor for night time and she does well at night too.

She gets lots of love here and I would never let her be in pain but she is so lethargic on those meds and is more loopy. She acts like nothing has happened and like I said, I am amazed and I am sure it is the prayers going up to St Francis!! I will call the vet today and ask about giving her the pain meds to make sure.

thanks everyone and hugs and kisses back at ya!!!

Hooray for Ronnie! Glad to hear she's doing so well. 🙂 Digging can actually be great exercise for tripawds, but very smart to wait until she's fully healed. Then, a Tripawds dog t-shirt can help keep incision sites clean while fur grows back! 😉

Laurie and Ronnie,

Awesome!!! Ronnie is doing great! She's SUPER DOGGIE! (And such a pretty lady, too, from your avatar!) Great idea using a baby monitor for her in the night; digging is a fantastic sign! These dogs mentally adjust quicker than I can say " 'pawd"!

Thanks for the wonderful news! We look forward to hearing how Ronnie's doing!
