I also have been offline this weekend, but was so thrilled to hear how well Sadie is doing. Hooray for good vets, pawsitive support and most of all the concern of loving pawrents. Sadie sounds like she is improving by leaps and bounds.
I can't tell exactly how tall Sadie is from her photo, but after not finding the right "steps" for Sammy to climb onto the bed, we opted for a chest at the foot of the bed. It was easy for him to hop up the one step and land comfortably in the middle of the bed — just where he liked it! Commercial steps for dogs were either too small of lightweight for Sammy's 95 pound frame and long legs. We found a perfect one at Bed, Bath and Beyond on clearance and it wasn't very expensive. Additionally, we used the trunk to foot chest to store some of Sammy's things. Just an idea ...
We hope Sadie's road to recovery is a smooth one from here on out.

Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
I have been working this week and sadie has done well at home. Today was her last daily visit to vet. They took her stitches out. She still has a "hole" where the incisions meet but it is quite small now and they said its not deep. should heal shut within 1 to 2 weeks. i have to do a small dressing change daily. she is still on 2 antibiotics. we will follow up with vet in 10 days. she is running around like crazy. she is trying to figure out how to do some of her 4 legged things with 3....rolling in snow, letting us know when she wants outside, (used to paw at door), getting on beds, shaking herself without falling down....she tires easily and is obviously sore or in pain at times. i continue with the meds for this. but she is eating and eliminating and interested in things again. What a month!!! Of course I would take a complete "do over" if I could, but i am still thankful to have found tripawds through this. and to see our vet staff sincerely care for sadie, and to have even the experience of realizing how much one can love a pet! I am changed.
That's fantastic news!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh YAAAAAY!!!! To think of how far you've both come is just amazing. You are changed and we are thrilled! Congrats!
P.S. If she is in pain or sore, be sure to check out our CARE videos about rehab, and our dog massage tips blog post.

You and Sadie have ridden the roller coaster too many times without getting off. I'm pleased that you now can climb off and find out what normal will be for you both.
I congratulate you. This would have made many people nuts, and others would have just given up and had their dog put down. Sadie has let you know you made the right decision. She's still very interested in life. Thank you for persisting, for loving her and for doing what she wants.
