At last, potentially wonderful news - the osteosarcoma vaccine that was being tested at UPenn (AT-014) is now being manufactured by Aratana and they just received conditional licensure by the USDA a few days ago (12/20/2017). This article states that the vaccine will be available for purchase initially at ~24 participating centers.
I am trying to find out which centers are participating & exact details, and I will post an update as soon as I find out. Initial data is very promising, with most dogs living at least 2-3 years if not longer (amp + chemo + vaccine) versus 1 year for amp + chemo alone.

This could be the best Christmas gift ever!!!!!!

Hello to all

im just catching up on this incredible news!!! Best wishes to all and anyone who can benefit from this incredible breakthrough!

I am not sure how this could effect us up in Canada. I have emailed the Aratana company to ask them about any details that they may have regarding the Canadian market.

Hopes that this drug can be approved sooner than later and people all over the world may benefit!

Hugs to all from Stewie and his Pack.

Last summer, Rocky's oncologist tried to get us in the trial of this. Unfortunately, we didn't get in, but she was optimistic about this vaccine. Fingers crossed it works.

David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.

OK guys I have a short list of places who will be participating in the extended field study for the Osteosarcoma vaccine... I only asked for places along the NE and SE coast.  Whoever finds more places please share here:

1. Blue Pearl Veterinary, Tampa FL

2. SE Veterinary Oncology & Internal Medicine, Jacksonville FL

3. Katonah Bedford Veterinary Center, Bedford Hills NY

4. The Life Center, Leesburg VA

5. Oradell Animal Hospital, Paramus NJ

6. Upstate Veterinary Specialists, Greenville SC

7. Hope Veterinary Specialists, Malverne PA

8. Veterinary Cancer Center, Norwalk CT

The Aratana rep on the phone did not know much information about criteria for who can get the vaccine.  She said it was an "extended field study" to begin early 2018 and go until end of 2018.  She advised I call the specific vets to get more information.  They just received the list of participating places today.  I asked if more will get added and she said no, the list was final.  There will be 24 places in total throughout the USA.  So we need to know the 16 more.

I called Blue Pearl in Tampa FL and they have not received any information yet about the vaccine, so advised me to call back in a few weeks.

Best of luck to everyone!!!!

Our hospital is there, VCC in Norwalk, CT!

On their Clinical Trials page (http://www.vcch.....center/787) there is this.  I applied for it for Fallon, there was a link to do so.  We see Dr. Sue on Tuesday and I will discuss hen and let her know our GREYT interest.

Experimental EGFR/HER2 Tumor Vaccine

Study Objective:
This trial  is evaluating a cancer vaccine strategy for EGFR and/or HER2 bearing tumors in dogs. This stage of the project is simply to determine if anti-tumor antibodies arise in vaccinated animals. The vaccine is composed of a short peptide of canine EGFR (15 amino acids) mixed with LymeVax(R)  (Zoetis) and mineral oil. The patient gets two 0.5 cc vaccines (SC in the nape of the neck) separated by 3 weeks regardless of the size of the dog. Blood samples will be taken at the time of the first injection (Day 0), Day 21 (time of the booster injection), Day 28 (+/- 3 -4 days) and Day 56 (+/- 7 days). Based upon mouse studies, we expect no untoward effects or even injection site reactions.  There are NO contraindications with other forms of therapy, either surgical or chemotherapy. We would prefer mammary tumors and osteosarcomas (and other tumors that are presumed to express EGFR and /or HER2).
Eligibility Requirements:
any dog with confirmed mammary cancer or osteosarcoma
  • dogs with any other confirmed cancer may be eligible depending upon enrollment
  • No steroids given within 7 days
  • Performance score of 0, 1, or 2-expected survival time of over 6 weeks
Exclusion Criteria:
  • Dogs less than 3 kg in body weight
  • Prior steroid use
  • Other clinical findings precluding the use of a vaccine
Compensation:
This is a partially funded trial. The vaccine and blood draws will be at no cost to the client.

Fallon's left front leg was amputated due to osteosarcoma on 10/11/17.

Best of luck everyone! I emailed Aratana and asked if it would be made available in Canada. Here was their reply...

Petra,

Thank you for your email! Aratana Therapeutics, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company, which means we are regulated by government agencies who must license and approve our therapeutic options for use in animals. At this time, our therapeutics have been licensed or approved by U.S. regulators (United States Department of Agriculture or Food and Drug Administration) to sell only in the United States. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our product outside the United States at this time.

Thank you,
