Thank you all! I cry everytime I get on here because of all the love. I wish Charlie could read so he knew that not only is his family behind him but, that he has so many friends out there that he hasn't even met! I hadn't been on in days and was getting back to that nervous place, awaiting our appointment on Monday. Getting on here and hearing from you all really made my day! Happy Pawlidays to everyone out there...hoping your enjoying these special days with your furry family or doing something special to remember the sweet ones that are not with us.
Charlie went to the vet this morning and he felt that the lump should be removed with Charlie's history. He was concerned that we may not get enough of a sample or that it would come back indeterminate. We agreed and just had it removed. Please send some love Charlie's way!
Sending Charlie love and best wishes. When will you have the pathology?

Jenna & Spirit Chili Dawg
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Charlie just got home and is so groggy! He is tuckered out...anesthesia 🙁 We should have the pathology by the end of the week. The sample is going out tomorrow. Our vet said he got most of it but, it was attached to a ligament so, couldn't get it all. He mentioned mast cell tumor to us...YUCK! We're staying positive for Charlie...here we go again with the pain meds and antibiotics!!! This is also a real stinker because this is the foot that had the raw pads and was healing...Keep the positive energy coming our way...Thanks!!!!!!!!
Poor Charlie! Hope it is nothing/that the vet got it all. Sending pawsitive thoughts out to you and Charlie. Hope he heals up quickly.
All the best,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Charlie's pathology just came back as soft tissue sarcoma, grade 1 (malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor). I posted in Ask A Vet looking for some help.
The path report does say "These tumors recur often but slowly after incomplete or narrow excision but typically do not metastisize."
I feel sick! What are the chances???
I'm so sorry, I just saw that in the other forum. Grrrr! I hate cancer!
Ok, I know this is easy for me to say because I'm not in your shoes, but their slow growth is on your side. This is another one of those situations where you have to take things day by day. In the meantime, do what you can to look into ways to cope with it IF it does recur. I'm sure your vet will talk to you about things that can be done, such as radiation therapy. What did s/he recommend?

Oh so sorry to hear this news. This is never easy. My golden Mackenzie had several lumps and a couple of them did test positive for a malignancy. All we could do was just watch them and hope that they were slow growing and luck was on our side - they were. Like Jerry says, the slow growth is on your side and this cancer stuff does force you to take it one day at a time. We all know too well how upsetting hearing this kind of news can be. We wish you and Charley all the best and hope that everything turns out ok.
Sending you lots of golden positive healing thoughts....

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Ugh, that sucks. Cancer sucks. It is not fair for sweet Charlie to be hit again with this crap. But... At least the "typically do not metastasize" part sounds like good news, in addition to the slow growing part. I hope the vet will have some encouraging options for you.
Hang in there. Sending good thoughts your way,
Jackie, Abby's mom

I also posted a response in the other forum.
My pug had recurring mast cell cancer, then a second cancer diagnosed so I know how devastated you feel.
I hope your vets can give you some options. I know it is hard but you do need to hang on to the good news- slow growing and not usually malignant.

I am so sorry about this for Charlie. Oh gosh. How utterly horrible. Cancer is so incredibly bizarre. But yes, on the bright side, it's slow growing and doesn't metestisize.
Have a long good cry and then you'll feel recharged on what to do next.
Sending lots of hugs.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your boy, Charlie's pathology result. While I don't have any personal experience/knowledge of soft tissue sarcoma, from what I've read here on Tripawds, it's amazing what our pups can bounce back from and/or learn to deal with. Charlie looks like the sort of fellow that can really fight the good fight with this. I'm sending prayers and hugs your way.
- Karen and Sweet Spirit Sheepdog Sylvie
Sweet Silly Sylvie, the Old English Sheepdog
Diagnosed with osteosarcoma 11/04/2010 at almost 7 years of age * Left hind leg amputated 11/09/2010 * Chemo on 12/10, 12/17, 01/10, 01/31
Sweet Sylvie's earthly journey ended on Nov. 3, 2011, one day short of a year since her diagnosis and 6 days short of her one-year ampuversary. Her family celebrates her life as a sheepdog – ever the puppy, ever silly, ever sweet – and are grateful for our 7 years together.
I know what a sucker punch to the gut this feels like -- we've been there. Cancer is so not fair.
For now, try hard to focus on the positive, and take your cues from Charlie. He doesn't know/doesn't care that he has cancer and that his days may/may not be foreshortened because of it. All he cares about is being with you and yummy cookies and love. To him, life is grand! Let his attitude infect you. And when you have those moments where you can't focus on the positive, we are here to help!
