I found a new pea-sized very hard lump on Charlie's back left inner "ankle" last night. I feel like the worry should all be over! Charlie just got back to himself and I feel like he has been through enough! I don't want to even make an appt. to get to the vet. It seems like it is brand new. It wasn't there 3 days ago. We had been wrapping that foot up until then because the pads on that foot were raw. We recently got his new boots and the velcro band does tighten over that area. Maybe a hair follicle thing?
It does not feel like his sarcoma felt in any way. It is very small and movable...right under the skin. We are really trying not to worry. I can talk myself out of it for.....about an hour!
I know the only way to be sure is to do an aspirate but, geesh!!!!!!!!! I just want him to relax and be happy!
I just read through Cadence's new bump and was relieved to read the good news at the end. I can totally relate to the roller coaster of feelings and the lump described sounds similar. We may wait until next week to have it looked at...maybe Monday?!? We think it may be a good idea to see if it gets bigger or goes down. Do these keratinized something somethings grow or dissipate?
I'll make the appt. tomorrow... 🙁

I know how frightening it is when a new lump is found! My greyhound had a fibrosarcoma removed three times from the same area in just over a year...She now has three growing at the same site.. 🙁 I am doing a holistic approach currently as I have limited options due to her age, health, and location of these tumors.
I would go ahead and have the vet check it out, and then make decisions from there. Better to check it out now before it grows...and maybe, its nothing at all!

Oh dear! As Karen here always says, "Knowlegde is power". It's better to know. But let's hope, hope, hope it's nothing. If it's nothing...then you can relax and be happy. If not and it's a big if not, then at least you can figure out the next step.

It hard to relax...because you love you furbaby so much. Even when I should have been relaxing and being happy, I could imagine things wrong!!!!

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
He'll be able to relax when you do. So we agree, better to know. An aspirate is the only way. I think last time we paid for one it was around $30.
All of us get freaked out about the lumps and bumps, and most times they're nothing serious. Call the vet and let us know what happens.

From the way you describe it it sure sounds like nothing - sounds kinda like that kira-whatever-thingy Cadence had... Gotta agree - it is scary to go to the vet and have it checked out cuz sometimes you just want to be blissfully ignorant, but you'll probably just keep worrying if you don't get it checked. Knoweldge (however you spell it...) is indeed power.
If you get the Power of Team Tripawds working on sending pawsitive thoughts out that it's nothing, it will most likely be nothing!

Zeus has a spot on his rear leg that popped up about 3 years ago seemingly overnight. It is just like what you described. Our vet at the time was not worried at all because it was moveable (apparently the "moveable" part is significant). Have it checked to be sure (and for peace of mind), but try not to panic. I know that's easier said than done, after all I am the one who just posted two days ago b/c Zeus was whimpering and I was scared the cancer had spread. Good luck and keep us posted!
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

But I do believe in knowing what is going on if you are worried about it. Charlie doesn't care about the lump, but if you are stressed he will be to, he just doesn't know why.
We are lump/bump central here in pugville. Lots of experience has taught me not worry too much about the new ones, but I do get them checked.

I hope Charlie's lump turns out to be nothing at all. I just found a small lump on Peyton last night, so Jane is taking her to the vet tonight. We aren't taking any chances on anything, and would rather know than not...

Thanks all! Charlie has an appointment for an aspiration 12/26...hopefully we'll know what it is by the end of next week! Keep your paws crossed for Charlie! I'll keep you updated!
It's good that you are getting it checked. We have all paws crossed for you! By the way, Charlie is a cutie...I'm just saying....
Peyton had a fine needle aspiration last night, and we hope to have results by Friday. The Dr. doesn't really think it's anything to worry about, but we're testing it anyway...

Sammy has a chart for all the lumps that have been popping up. There are many now, but before the cancer there was only one. Everytime I find a new one, I get that scared feeling. ALL of them have turned out A-Okay, so I would have to say based on experience that one sounds like it won't be anything to fret over.

The keratinized lumps that Tosca has have gradually gotten larger, and at some point, we'll probably have them removed. The vet said when they get to be over about 2 cms then we'd probably want to have them taken off.
I also have a chart of all Rio's many lumps and bumps -- she's got warts, lipomas, a melanoma and some lumpy scar tissue (in addition to the MCTs) that are all mapped out, because when the vet would feel a lump, she would always ask if that was one we'd tested before and I could never remember because there were soooo many. Now, though, we're not doing any additional treatment on her, and its the first time in YEARS when I find a new lump and just go "oh well, there's another one."

Hi Charlie's Mom. Went through the same thing with Cadence. I hope Charlie's is just the keratinzed lump. Those are benign. But they can grow and if they irritate the dog or get too big, the vet will usually remove them. I keep checking Cadence's weekly to see if hers has grown. Cadence will keep her paws crossed for Charlie.
