Hi, just recently found this wonderful group.  I feel a bit the outsider, as we have not gone the amputation route.  Our beloved Fusto started limping on the RF in June just after his sixth birthday.  He had x-rays at our regular vet, revealing a tumor at the head of the humerus , the oncologist confirmed with CT scan and we didn't risk a biopsy.  We decided on stereotactic radiation therapy, which was done July 12.  He has done three rounds of carboplatin and is happy and active at this time.  I have read tons of your posts and learned a lot.  I don't have a lot to add at this time, but would be interested to hear of any other's experience with stereotactic/Cybeknife/proton therapy or similar.

It's always great to hear a cancer warrior doing well on 4!

And you are of course welcome here- we have a few members that did rad or who were not good candidates for amputation.  The cancer journey is tough no matter how many legs you have- having support on the journey is invaluable!

The one I think of right away is Luke and Simon, I'm sure Luke will be by soon.

I’m a fan of  cyber knife.  Simon  had his radiation February 15 16th and 17th. He received his six cancer treatments along with the zoledronate  to firm up the bone  a little bit. I continue to bring him monthly for zoledronate  as it can help a little bit and might have some anticancer properties. I’m also using THC and golden paste and Chinese herbs. As well as very very low carb foods.. As I mentioned in previous post a vet tech told me this cancer is the worst   So we throw everything at it. Some recent research suggests that cancer might be metabolic in that case this is why I try and prevent glucose and carbohydrates from feeding the cancer

From: Fusto's Dad

Thank you all for the warm welcome!  Luke-thanks for Simon's story.  Happy to hear from someone who's seven months out on the same treatment.

From: Fusto's Mom

What is the cannabis derivative you're using...CBD Oil or CBD/THC Oil? If it's CBD/THC is it Indica or Sativa or a blend ? In AZ medical is legal but the law forgot vet use...God forbid we should get it right the first time!!?? Our vet is totally in favor of it's use for animals. Was the oil prescribed and /or how did you come up with a MG dose...per lb?

Thanks!!

It is our understanding that animals should not receive any form of THC, which has the psychoactive ingredients that causes the high feeling from pot. For pets, CBD / hemp products are the only safe bet. For Fusto's safety, we urge you to defer to your veterinarian for product and dosage suggestions.

Here are all of our recent posts about cannabis for pets.

P.S. Please know that you are most definitely not an outsider here, we support pet parents no matter which route they take when dealing with cancer. Quite a few members here have gone through SRT so you're not alone at all.

My dog beat cancer with cannabis.

But you also did traditional cancer therapies as well, correct? That's important to consider when thinking about the factors that are contributing to his pawesome longevity.

In response to Jerry.’s last reply, I did not mean to intend my dog beat cancer with cannabis. I find the whole possibility of that quite unlikely. I was just letting you know the name of the Facebook page

More likely, your dog beat cancer with SRT, but I wholeheartedly agree with your strategy of throwing everything but the kitchen sink at it.  Cancer is by definition quickly reproducing cells and therefore quick to adapt to a threat, so a single therapy is unlikely to be successful.  I learned a bit about cancer and its treatment while my two legged friend of 40 years was dying of glioblastoma.  The human medical community is so conservative (and afraid of malpractice suits) that they do not deviate from "the protocol", even if it has been unsuccessful for thirty years.  Median survival on "the protocol" is 14 months, yet I found tons of blogs by individual survivors adding a multi pronged attack of diet and supplements, illicitly obtains HIV meds, or SRT and outliving the median by five years or more with a quality of life not enjoyed by those on the standard protocol even for 14 months.  My friend could only get into a clinical trial after failing on the standard protocol, and then the trial was about collecting data for one potential therapy (which Big Pharma could patent), not about the patient.  Oddly, even though SRT was invented to treat brain tumors, it is almost never used for that, was never offered or mentioned to my friend during the 14 months that they monitored his surgically removed tumor returning and eating his brain.
