Sure. He was receiving 10ml of bupivacaine (a nerve numbing agent) through his soaker catheter (the one in the incision) every eight hours since his surgery on Tuesday. His last dose was last night and we removed the catheter at around 7 tonight. He didn't notice the removal at all. I think the soaker catheter was the coolest thing. Really great for pain management . His incision still doesn't seem to be painful to him. Right now, most of his discomfort seems to be from soreness from adjusting to a new walk, especially in his right front leg. He is also on 100mg of rimadyl twice a day and 200-250mg of tramadol every six hours (mostly 200mg).

I should probably also mention A'Tuin is hypothyroid and so also takes a thyroid med everyday.

Wow I think that's the first time we've had a member here manage pain as you have with the catheter. How cool. Do you think this is something the average person could deal with or would someone need to have friend like Laura or a vet tech type of background to do it?

I definitely think it's something the average person could do it, no special background needed. A'Tuin never minded having the meds put in the catheter and he didn't feel a thing when mama took it out. It would definitely be easier with two people - one to pet and one to inject, but it could be done alone. Since the injection goes into a port, you're not pricking your pet at all. It was also incredibly easy to remove, slid out with no problem at all, no bleeding or discharge either. I'd recommend discussing it with your vet for any future tripawds.
Definitely worth it for managing post-operative pain! He's still not sensitive around his incision today and it's been almost two full days since the last injection. He's resting well, and what seems to bother him the most when he's getting up is his remaining front arm. The edema and bruising have migrated down into it, but he's appreciated the extra massages he's getting on it.

You can see, bit by it, the improvement in his eyes with each update. Yeah, I'm sure that fro t leg is a little sore as it adjuss to carrying weight.
Yo jave a wondeful supportive family and that's so important. I'm sorry you jave so much on yor plate right now. Ut one thing you can count on, A'Tuin will get the sparkle back and will be keeping squish kitty (soooooo cute!) out of his spcae!
I know this is still a very tough part of the recovery and may contiue so for another weekish. He'll be his old self slowly but surely.

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
