I had to bring him back to the vet to get fluids via IV.  Is this unusual.  He is over 11 and I don't want to torture him.

Welcome, your future posts won’t have to wait for approval.

Tell us more about your pup, what’s his name? Why the amp? Front or back leg?  Any other health issues? What meds is he on?

I’m on my mobile right now so I just wanted to get your post approved so others can help- I’ll check back later when I’m on my computer.

Yes, do give us more information when you get a chance.

To give you some reassurance  though, it is  not unusual  for dogs to  not feel like eating or drinking for the first several days or longer after surgery.

Glad you got him on some fluids.  Good job.

What pain meds is he on?  Frequency?

And dogs often need several  days  to get mobile too, especially  if they are a bit  "older".  While a lot of pain meds help with the pain, it can also  make them a bit woozy and not quite stable on their legs yet.

For  now, just rest, good pain meds, potty breaks and more rest.  Sometimes  the "potty breaks" can happen in their bed a5 first, so don't  be alarmed.   It's  the drugs.

Remember,  this is   MAJOR SURGERY and he needs time to recover.  It usually  takes avput two weeks before you start to see some sparkle  come back.

Hang in there and update  us when you can!

Hugs

Lane, I'm sorry I missed you in the Tripawds Chat a little while ago (I'm in there now and am hoping you see this), and I'm super bummed that Alcatraz had to go back. What did the vet say? Please let us know what's going on. I know he's getting great care at your clinic so try not to panic. This isn't too unusual, and you acted quickly so that's a good thing.

Sending you and Alcatraz lots of healing power, keep us posted.
