Hi Everyone!

I originally posted under diagnosis but now Murphy is day 11 post rear hind leg amputation for sarcoma. We're still not clear on a specific diagnosis despite two pathologists looking at the results of his limb biopsies. Murphy sees the oncologist on Thursday to have his staples removed and discuss future plans, which I'm pretty sure will include chemo.

Our boy is doing well. He's eating better now and getting around pretty well. He's still getting lots of visitors and is back to his old attention hog self. Despite being down to 3 limbs he still pushes Molson out of the way to get the attention.

I've been reading so many blogs on the site. I'm in here every day! I'll keep everyone posted on Murphy's progress. Thanks again for all the support!

Hi sweetie 🌸

So lovely to hear how well Murphy is doing 👍🏽

I’m not surprised he gets lots of attention, what, being such a gorgeous cutie pie 😍 one can’t expect any different!

You’ll see a big difference once staples are out, generally that is the first landmark moment when we can truly see our babies back to being their loving old selves.

Hugs and cuddles 😘🐮💫✨🌟🌹

Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Glad to hear this! Like Theresa said, once the staples come out, he will really start to shine. Chemo sounds horrible, but dogs usually fare better than humans with it. They don't lose their hair for one, and if he gets a little nauseous, your vet can give him meds (like Cerenia). Good luck as you move forward, we're cheering for you

Ha ha. That's what we get for bragging how smoothly things were going. Literally hours after my last post I noticed Murphy's incision had a small hole in it. Off he went to the vets where they kept him overnight on IV antibiotics with surgery on the incision planned for the next day. When the surgeon saw it the next day he deemed it didn't require a major surgical intervention so luckily he dodged another general anesthetic and debridement. Phew. He is back on oral antibiotics but otherwise seems to be good. He slept like a baby last night.

Murphy got his incision checked today. It's looking ok. He continues on his antibiotics for awhile. He spent most of his time there kissing up to the ladies and scrounging treats.

Update on Murphy. We saw the oncologist today. The news was not great. Lymphangio sarcoma. Prognosis not great and who knows how much time he will have as this is a rare one with not too many studies behind it. We decided to proceed with chemo to see if it could help. He had his first dose of doxorubicin today. For those whose dogs were on doxorubicin, how were the side effects?

Oh Val I am so sorry. That is a brand new one around here, I've never heard of it.

This is a tough situation but it sounds like you are remaining hopeful and pawsitive, which is fantastic medicine for Murphy. Set the tone and he will follow. You can do it!

Not sure if I shared this link with you or not but here is a post about doxorubicin side effects:
