My sweet kitty, Mandu, had his front left arm amputated a year ago (biopsy identified osteosarcoma from an old injury). We have been hoping for the best, but one of his hind legs became paralyzed spontaneously two days ago, and now we know that the cancer has spread to his lungs and spine.
Has anyone else been through something similar? I’m trying to anticipate if we have days or maybe weeks with him?
Hi Mandu and family, welcome. I’m so sorry to hear about the Mets. Did your oncologist confirm this with xrays or CT scan? It’s so unusual for osteosarcoma mets to happen in cats. How is Mandu’s mobility now?

I'm sorry to hear about the spread of the cancer. Although a different situation I had a cat with malignant melanoma and the vet said there was nothing could do and it would spread to his lungs. Looking back I should have had more support than that from the vet. What I did do was keep him comfortable as long as possible. For a number of months he would still sit out on the deck and started to sleep more. He developed a tiny cough and I could feel a few new skin tumours popping up. Eventually the only time he could find comfort was sleeping in my arms while I put compresses on his oozing tumours.
Your vet could give you advice on how to treat and slow down the progression to ensure Mandu is comfortable and pain-free. You could also get a second opinion.
Hugs to both you and Mandu.

First of all, it's wonderful that Mandu and you have had extra bonus quality time for a year. We know it's NEVER enough time, but take a moment to celebrate this past year..
I have the same questions as Jerry about how this was confirmed and also agree with Kerren about getting a second opinion. Did the Vet suggest any pain meds to continue to keep Mandu comfortable?. Is he still eating, drinking, etc okay? Has this interfered with potty? Cats can certainly continue to have good extended quality time with mets. They generally aren't painful per se. Spine mets would need more aggressive pain management .
While none of us can give you "timeframes" for when your sweet Mandu will transition, we can tell you that what really matters is that you make every moment count. Don't let that piece of crap disease interfere with the time you have NOW. And now is all that matters. And as long as the "now" keeps him pain frre snd allows Mandu to still be Mandu, time is on your side.
If this has indeed been confirmed, as long as you can keep him comfortable you can still continue to make treasured memories together. Take lots of pictures and spoil, spoil, spoil.
We would love to see pictures of Mandu. Here's a link to help you post. adding images .
Stay connected and update when you can.
