Hi Tim, welcome.  Your future posts won't have to wait for approval.

So glad the surgery went well!

This journey is hard enough without problems at the clinic.  I hope you get Meg comfortably situated, either at the 24 hrs place or home with you. Coming home the day of surgery can be tough, but better than Meg being left alone.

Hi Katie and Tim

So glad surgery has gone well. clap Jim and I will be on-line for the day. This is morning here (Scotland). If you need a shoulder to lean on, we're right here. Sleep well tonight, look forward to hearing how she gets on overnight. I've no doubt she'll be fine and will be giving you lots of hugs and kisses soon.

Thanks everyone heart.

The vet called with an update, Meg is awake, ate some chicken and is accepting cuddles with a tail wag. They tried to turn her IV drip down because she's been doing so well, but she didn't like that too much. They're pretty adamant she needs to stay overnight. I still don't want her there alone, it just seems too risky. We'll go to the vets in about two hours, see how she is doing and weigh up if we take her home, or see if we can afford the 24hr vet.

A man at the dog park freaked us out with costs, but I presume his experience would've included an emergency consultation, 6 more hours staying there and weekend prices. Fingers crossed it isn't too bad!

Surely there is an alternative to the IV.

Well done Meg, Katie and Tim, you're doing all you can at the moment. Keep your chins up and give her big hugs when you see her. One piece of advice, I'm sure you're all over it, But I was upset to see Mistletoe, not minus a leg, but in her kennel surroundings. It broke my heart to leave her there, but I knew it was the best place and she would get excellent medical care.

Keep us up-dated. Love and best wishes to you all. xxxclap

UPDATE

Good news first - we were very impressed with how Meg is. She is doing very well, has already been up and about, went outside for a wee etc. We spent a good hour with her at the vets while they were closing up before taking her to the 24hr vets. She still needed her IV and we were feeling a little intimidated by the wound so weren't keen to take her home tonight.

She wanted to jump out of her kennel and be with us! So we're thrilled about Meg heart.

The bad/stressful news. We are very disappointed with our vet clinic (understatement). Once we had decided we'd take her to the 24hr clinic, our vet (the original vet who was meant to do the surgery) called the 24hr place saying we were coming in, that it would cost $350, and that he would email all her history's. We arrive at the 24hr place, they have no idea who we are, didn't receive any history. 20 minutes of waiting and we were stressed the IV meds were wearing off. At least the vet had spoken to our vet and verbally knew what was happening, the email never came through. Overnight cost was actually $500, which is annoying to be underquoted, but our vet said it could be more, so that's ok. However, our vet was meant to send the drugs meg needs with us, so we had to A) switch her onto cheaper but equally effective drugs and B) pay for them ourselves. You better hope our vets willing to assist with that given they forgot to give us the drugs / didn't mention we'd have to pay!

The main thing is meg is being looked after tonight, and I'd pay anything for that but geez, very angry at our vets for all the miscommunication! mad

Look at Meg! What a trooper!!

Sorry you've had so many issues with the vet. I figured it would be about 500 for the night but that's lousy that they didn't send the meds over with her.

The wound is intimidating, isn't it? Izzy wore a t-shirt for a long time to keep her staples and incision clean and out of sight from my then-fiance's 12 year old son. He was totally out of sorts over the wound.

Because Meg is small, you could put her in a footless baby's "sleep and play" romper. They snap up from leg to chin on a furless baby, so can be left open to leave room for all the "essential" bits. There are also dog pajamas on Amazon.com ... Izzy has a pair arriving today - probably won't fit but her pitty sister can make use of them if that's the case.

Get some rest, breathe easy ... Meg will do famously!

Thanks Amy and Izzy!

I'm so relieved that Meg is doing ok, everyone seemed very impressed with her recovery! She even managed to balance on the super slippery vet table at the 24hr place.

She had bandages over the wound so we haven't even seen the scar yet! Even that was scary for me, going to take a bit of toughening up to cope with the actual wound. Might have to buy some suggested clothing! It is all seeming very real now, the long days dealing with pain, massaging the wound and keeping her body right. Oh boy, here we go with recovery! All worth it to get Meg healthy, and all her achievements are going to leave me very proud which outweighs all the fear.

Feeling very exhausted emotionally now, was a stressful lead up and a big day! Went to flop on the couch and saw Meg's footprints in the material, and that is what (nearly) made me cry. Trying to keep it all in until I get to bed, then I'll have a giant sook.

Stay well tonight Meg, see you tomorrow! Will update everyone tomorrow, probably with a new recovery thread or on the blog!
