Diane,

I'm so sorry that you got bad news about Magic so soon... But as you've seen from several other members on here, their babies were able to live many more months even with their lung mets. I hope and pray that it's the same for Magic.

Sending you and Magic a big hug!!!

Angel Jake's Mom

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

Diane and Magic

I hate it when mets show up this quickly. I really hate it.

Many of our dogs used Doxy (Doxyrumbin is also called Adriamycin, with an "A"). Some dogs like Cap'n Jack sailed through it (although the onco used the anti-nausea drugs proactively - good thing for he upchucked when Mum skipped one treatment). My Tazzie fell somewhere in the middle, having a bit of nausea and lethargy. Nothing too serious, but I can't say I liked using the drug on him. Other dogs do seem to have more problems.

So I'd just suggest keeping a really close eye on Magic (ha as if that needs to be said) so you can judge whether the drug is right for him.

Depending on his reaction, there is always the decision about whether to abandon treatment and focus entirely on quality - or if quality is sufficient even on treatment to continue. Always a hard decision and that will depend on Magic's reaction and of course if the drug helps. Maximutt tried some chemo drugs once he got lung mets, so you aren't alone in trying more high dose chemo once mets were found.

Is Magic on anti-nausea drugs (Cerenia) or did the onco give you them to have on-hand? In our experience, which was not any longer than yours pre-met, it seemed easier to prevent the nausea than to get rid of it once it showed up.

I think you asked about metronomics . That is always an option, although it is lower dose than what you are doing now. There is lots of info on this site - they aim to cut off the blood supply to tumors. The good thing about metronomics is that they are low enough dose that you should not see any side effects. I expect the oncos want to see if the Adriamycin works.

I know how rough this is. Similarly, I tried to get all of Tazzie's treatment under control only to find mets (a big lump under the skin) the night before the teaching term began in Sept, argh. Nevertheless, we had a great few months after that, and his lump definitely grew faster than most.

Wishing you and Magic all the best,

Susan

p.s. to Opie - why are you showing up as a 'guest'?

Diane & Magic,

Don't give up yet, the vets haven't and as long as they want to fight that nasty cancer, anything is possible.  I know the mets aren't a good sign and to have them so soon after amp.!  Just keep giving Magic that total Love you have been and live for the moment as much as you can.  We are keeping all of you in our prayers.

Diane and Magic,

I am stunned and heart broken to hear your news.  You are right, it is what we all know will most likely happen in the future, but we don't expect it this soon.  Take heart in the fact that the oncologist is not giving up.  Enjoy Magic and let him guide you in your decisions.  Many dogs have done very well with lung mets for quite sometime.

My prayers are with you and Magic.

Hey Opie.....Mom is letting me use the computer to answer you!!!!  and she had to get a new keyboard this morning   because she killed the old one somehow...I don't understand how all that stuff works but that's okay, mom doesn't either!!

You betcha Opie, we are gonna kick mets ASS (mom said I could say the whole word...she says WAAAAAY worse..WHAT?  oh oh, mom said for me not to tell everybody that....)  We are tho...we are gonna be romping and licking and having a good time and that old cancer can just go to the hot place.

Now mom wants the new keyboard back.....

Hi everybody....boy, I had to wrestle the keyboard back...I was going to try to start a blog but could NOT figure out how to do it and thought maybe this week, then yesterday happened and blog went out of my head.

Susan...I do have anti-nausea drugs here but haven't had to use them yet..last time with the carboplatin he sailed through and this time they also gave him the shot before the treatment and so far...crossed fingers...he is okay, but this is just the day after.  He ate more last night than he has eaten since surgery so that was weird...we are just taking it a step at a time right now.  And his vet did some research on the metronomics and said to me yesterday that at this point they were too "whimpy" (her word) to use and she wanted to hit this badboy with a heavy baseball bat!  I did ask about   using the cerenia (that was what she gave us) prophylactically and she saiid her suggestion was not to...maybe to use the least amount of stuff.  We are getting more K9 immunity down but no where near the 10 per day!!   We went to the park this morning and he met a new German Shepherd friend and romped all over with him and now is sleeping behind me since I won't give him the keyboard back.

Sorry for the confusion. The domain name is where your blog will appear online. For instance, if you want readers to find Magic's blog at magic.tripawds.com then you would enter "magic" for the domain name. It's a subdomain really, but I'd rather not try to confuse matters any more. winker

Enter krispikritter for the domain, and the blog will appear at krispikritter.tripawds.com. Hope this clears things up a bit. If you like, we can create the blog. You would just have to tell us what domain you want, and click the confirmation link in the email sent within 24 hours.

Our angel "Etta" amputation on 4-15-10 lost her front limb. initially dx'd with neurofibrosarcoma. However, after surgery they discovered histiocytic sarcoma a very aggressive cancer.
