Okay, so we go to see the oncologist today to possibly have her 2nd Carboplatin treatment. Her white blood cell count has dropped to low normal and they wanted it to be going back up if she was to have the 2nd treatment. So they take her back (with her bed and fresh chicken treats in- -baggie) it does seem to be taking a long time.

Finally the oncologist comes in and asked if i had noticed the lump underneath the incision at the low end near her armpit would have been. No I hadn't - that area has always had extra fatty tissue 'cos of the location. So she said it was an enlarged lymph node that she hadn't noticed before. So i'm like did you aspirate it? Yes she did and was sending it off to the lab.

Ugh! This is horrible!!

She did say that all she saw on one slide was normal lymphoids but that there were a number of slides going to the lab. So either it is cancer and the carboplatin isn't working or her body is just reacting to the chemo and it's not cancer, or it's a reaction to the surgery.

Osteosarcoma usually doesn't travel via the lymph system but through the blood but truly it can really go anywhere it wants to.

Now we wait for the test results. Yuck. Horrible. This is the cancer roller coaster. Can I get off now, please.

Send good thoughts!

Unfortunately, it is true.  There will be many ups and downs on the cancer journey, and you never know when the roller coaster ride will begin (or end).  Think positive thoughts, we are all sending good thoughts your way.  It really CAN be nothing.

Take a deep breath and resolve to take each day as they are given, addressing the challenges as they are presented. And as hard as it sometimes may seem, try really hard not to panic until you know exactly what you are facing.

You and Lylee will be in my thoughts as you face this new development.

Yes, it is a roller coaster ride and I hate roller coaster rides!  That and Tilt-a-Whirls!

So try not to worry too much.  It's a lot to ask, I know.   But as you wrote it, the vet sounded encouraging to me.

Let us know what the lab says.  In the meantime, just keep thinking pawsitive thoughts. And if you need something to take your mind off of it........stuffing your face with chocolate helps!  smile

Sending good thoughts to Lylee also.

It's true, this cancer journey ain't for sissies!

What my (thankfully) long cancer(s) journey with Maggie taught me is that you stay positive and optimistic until there is a definitive reason not to be.

And yes- it took me many months and several tumor removals to learn this.

It is so hard not to spend time worrying- we all do it at some point.  But I found that I was missing out on Maggie living her life right in front of me.

That being said you should feel free to come here and vent and get support whenever you need it- we all have done that too.

Sending positive thoughts for a good outcome north from the Bay Area.

Yes! Chocolate - of course, the solution for a nutty mother. My drug of choice winker

And our Lylee is actually feeling great!! We had fab time on the beach yesterday. I let her loose and wow! She was in the water again and again. Rolling in the sand and saving the world from evil seaweed!

Maybe she just needs beach therapy and not chemo therapy!

Thank you for all the support - you are all the BEST!!

Lylee is a beautiful pup!

I second the beach therapy and there's no doubt chocolate performs wonders on the nerves. I might add, it's great for nutty Dad's as well big-grin

Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.

Hang in there. Beach therapy is the best, for both pooch and pawrent! We try to go as often as pawsible.

As others have said, try to focus on your girl and not worry too much about the next hill on the roller coaster. I know I am trying to do that with Abby. Sometimes it is easy, and sometimes, eh, not so much...

Sending pawsitive thoughts your way!
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

And the test results are:

BENIGN!!!!!!!!

What a relief! What they called it is a reactive lymph node that they think is from the surgery a bit over a month ago.

So we will be continuing with the Carboplatin possibly tomorrow for the 2nd dose if her white count is going up.

Thank you everyone for the great coaching and support - you are all total stars superstar

Now back to the real business of beach walks and saving the world from seaweed....
