Rummaging through here and Google getting more info. on metronomic.

Go to dog cancer blog....Dr. Ettinger/Dr. Dressler.... and in one of the May 2013 comments, reference is made to. vetcancerspeacialist.com study
Showing SIX chemo treatment increased longevity over FOUR chemo treatments by 200 days. Now we all know here that tmeframes and statistics don't count for too much.

But darn, I've stopped Happy Hannah's chemo at four (carboplatin for oste) because supposedly there was no difference! 200 days? No difference? Say what?
And this was on Dr. Ettinger, s site. Okay, B r e a t h e Sally......no,deep breathes idiot....shallow gasps for air aren't cutting it:-)

Thanks for ANY clarification anybody. I mean, Ettinger's book is where I read four was just as good!!
Breathing slower now! I'm hooked up to tripawds and all is well!!

Sally and loving her chemo Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Sally you've got a good eye for detail. In 2010 a Colorado State study came out that said six was better than four. In this interview we did with Dr. Rosenberg, she discusses this study.

However, in Fall 2012 at the Veterinary Oncology Society's annual meeting, it was announced that a newer study at CSU shows no difference between 4 and 6. We confirmed this with CSU metronomics expert Dr. Biller, who told us that yes this is true. The information is so recent it hadn't been published when we spoke with her, but hopefully will be soon. When it is we'll be sure to share it here.

Sally,

I think you need to breathe.  There is no definate answer on how many chemo treatments are better than any other.  Basically its a CRAP shoot.  A dog or cat that doesn't have any chemo treatments can survive longer than one who has had chemo.  So no one has a real answer.  I am NOT discouraging chemo by any means just stressing that no one knows the right answer if they did there wouldn't be cancer at all.

SALT! TAKE SOME DEEP XANAX! I MEAN BREATHS!!!

From my understanding, there is no right answer here.  Dr. Hohenhaus discusses this a little bit on the radio show (I think) she did a few weeks ago.

I believe Colorado State is coming out with a study soon, Rene might know more, that shows there really is no difference.

TAKE DEEP BREATHS!  You will do the right thing, I promise!

ThankS .JERRY Soooooo glad there is new info. coming out.....and the links you provided were exactly what ole Sal needed to settle down a little!! You have access to Dr. Ettinger? Of course she doesn't have control over people's comments. But in this one (May 2013) person said Vet. showed her the study and that's why she decided on six!! And then you go to the site I mentioned earlier and it doesn't have a date when quoting the study-----makes you think it's current! HA! Wrong!

Thank you so much for bringing us up to date current on such vitally important information!

Yeah MICHELLE--you are ssloop right..it ISa crap short and your points are so valid. This site is proof everyday that, basically, there' no rhyme or reason why something seemingly works for o e dog and not the other. Exactly, some dogs with NO treatment outlive the others--and, of course, vice versa! Crazy crap!

PEPPER! Didn't't have any Xanax, but mainlined some of Hannah's tramadol and snorted her Gabapentin! I no longer need oxygen to breathe! It's so great I just nestle myself under the armpit of my pink elephant for two minutes then slide over onto my hippopotamus and we climb Mt. Everest and get kissed on the cheek by Pee Wee Herman, who then turns himself into a gigantic toe......and that's how I get my oxygen while on tramadol and gabapentin. What's it like o. Xanax?

Much love to all:-)

Salt
Many ways to contact dr sue. Do you have Facebook? I imagine no? She always answers Facebook questions. Also she now has a weekly radio show you can send in questions for. Also you can post comments on the dog cancer blog she has with dr dresser and they answer questions there. I'm on my iPhone now so I don't have the links but will post tomorrow.

Thanks Atlas and Patricia.....and that Atlas man is the most handsome ever!!

Yeah, Hannah a little over three weeks past fourth chemo a d my "not cutting edge I different, ambivalent onco. says a fifth is just "icing on the cake" but not necessary
I certainly hope that is the case. Jerry seems to be up to date anyway and I like that answer of four the best anyway! yAY four!

HOWEVER, , since you're interested too, I have HUGE Great Dane size favor to ask! YOU are computer savvy and I could not be more "unsavvy"!! If you go u a couple of blocks you'll see where Erica referenced those sites to ask the question. Would you Ind terribly doing g just that?? I'm not o. Facebook or any of that stuff (although I "signed I " on the Facebook tripawds page but I think that was just for that page).

It's really no biggie. I'm actually pretty convinced four is just fine e. Now I might.......might....co spider metronomics . Like Michelle said, it's all just a crap shoot anyway!!

Hugh hugs to you and your HUGE family:-)

Ok Miss Sally, I posted our question on the dog cancer blog. I don't do Facebook either, but I did join the dog cancer website the other day so it was easy to follow Erica's link and post the question on more than four chemo treatments and about metronomics . I'll post as soon as I hear from them.

One thing that helps me: Queen Nova had 4 rounds of carbo!  Hip hip, horay!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Thanks Jackson for reminding us about Queen Nova. She was quite the exception in sooooo many wonderful ways!

Pat, I also went to the link Jill posted above. Asked the question.....said awaiting moderation for two days now. For an email today saying I needed to sign up for their blog...I did. It still says waiting for moderation. Just wonderingkf you went through the same thing. I saw your question.
Thanks all!

Hello all!!

Lily was going to do 6 rounds of Carbo, but she got a little more tired with each dose. After the fifth dose she was wiped out!!! I didn't want to put her through anymore, so we stopped. I do remember reading the latest thoughts on four rounds  of Carbo being the latest thinking-can't remember where I read it, but I think it was OSU. All I knew was I wasn't going to do the sixth because she was so exhausted after the fifth.

I just feel that I know and love her more than anyone, and I don't want to make her too uncomfortable. That's why we limit her vet visits--she has a terror of our wonderful vet.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

Thanks Joan and Lily. It's always so good to see your posts because that sweet gentle Lilly is such an inspiration for us all!

Lovely Lily decided she didn't want anymore after five, huh? Love that independent strike those Greyhounds can put forth when they want to:-) :-) Yeah, it seems that four is the new norm....subject to change ever three seconds!

Always good to hear from you two and be reminded of what's possible. Sometimes you get scared to hope.
Thank you, Sally and Happy Hannah
