We dropped him off at 0745 this morning. Vet called around 0900 to say the bloodwork came back good but there was some concern about how aggressive the cancer was and the ability to get clean margins. She sedated him, drew a line and measured and is confident she can do it. One hurdle out of the way. Now just waiting for the call to say he is out of surgery....

He is out, they said it went well but it was in his lymphnodes, I called back to get another update and this time I am going to take notes because I am not really sure what that even means......

YAAAAAAY. ED!!!!  SURGERY IS DONE!!!

Sometimes cells may show up in the lymph nodes.  Sometimes not. It just gives the Vets more information when determining the  best path forward.

I know uou are soooo relieved the surgery is done!!

Yay he's out of surgery! smiley_clap That is the first step toward feeling good again. Stay strong and know that better days are ahead no matter what that path report says. Jules is on the road to recovery and that's what matters here and now.

Keep us posted!

He’s home, suffering from Dysphoria which isn’t fun. On a fentanyl patch and gabapentin 300mg 2X a day for pain, anti-inflammation medication and antibiotics. He’s crying and shaking quite a bit now but he’s in his bed. We had to carry him into the house but I think most of that is because of the medication. I think we’re in for a long night

Awww poor guy! I'm sorry, I know this is a ruff time. We missed you in the Chat earlier. I'm there now for a little while if you want to talk OK?

Meanwhile it sounds like Jules' pain control plan is spot-on. It may need some fine tuning but your vet gave him some excellent post-op pain control so that's a great sign things will go well for you guys.

WELCOME HOME JULES!!!

I KNOW this is a ruff time without  question!  You are watching  him shake off the anesthesia,  as well as the effects of the patch.  Nope, not easy to watch!  For whatever it's worth  everything you are observing  is because  of that and not pain.  The patch causes a lot of vocalizing  that is a differe t sound than a pain whine.

Sometime around day three is when the pain management   needs to be spot on.  That's  when all the hospital  meds are out of his system.

How many days does the Vet want the patch on?

Stay connected.

Hugs

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

He is on the patch until Tuesday. He doesn’t want to stand yet but again it hasn’t even been 24 hours. He has drank water and ate some kibble out of our hands but no pee yet but again it’s 3am here so not his usual pee time!

He'll get his sea legs in time.  Just too druggy right now.   and even if he pees in bed without getting up, that's okay.

Great that he's had some water and a bit of kibble!

So it turns out he is supposed to get 2x300mg of Gabapentin twice a day(every 12 hours) does this seem high?
